Thunder Bridge Lane, Kirkburton, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire HD8 0PX T: 01484 605 778 W: www.woodman-inn.com From humble beginnings as an 18th Century drinking inn, The Woodman Inn has provided sustenance to thousands of travellers in a tranquil, rural location in the tiny hamlet of Thunderbridge, near Huddersfield. This historic village lies within a conservation area, and the hamlet was originally believed to have been named after “Th (e)” under bridge, to distinguish it from a second bridge further up the valley. The first landlord was one Henry Wickman,
and in a nod to our historic heritage, we named one of our beautiful bedrooms “The Wickman Suite”. Jump forward 300 years and The Woodman has been transformed into a 21st century pub/restaurant/ hotel which prides itself on serving fresh local produce, perfectly cooked and served by our friendly and knowledgeable staff. Downstairs our traditional pub offers an extensive selection of award-winning cask ales and superb choice of fine wines.

The multi-award winning Shibden Mill Inn is situated in the picturesque Shibden Valley. It presents luxurious 5* accommodation, an inviting bar with open fires and exposed beams, 2AA rosette restaurant and a beautiful garden alongside the flowing waters of the red beck. A wide range of wine, cask ales and gin make this an ever popular spot for both dinners and drinkers.

Considered an icon in the British brewing world, the ‘new’ brewery was completed in 1875 and has been in constant use ever since. It is here where the world famous Old Peculier is brewed alongside their other award winning ales! Some of the vessels have been in use since the brewery was first built all those years ago.

If that was not enough there is also the only remaining full-time working craft cooperage left in the Country, where wooden casks are made from pieces of oak crafted into the finished item. If you don’t see the Master Cooper, Jonathan Manby, you may see his apprentice, Euan Findlay, working away at his ‘Block’ or ‘Bick Iron’. The Black Bull in Paradise Brewery Tap and Gift Shop are open daily from 10.30am. A most ‘Peculier’ welcome awaits.
In 1858 Timothy Taylor began brewing beer in Keighley. He struck upon a successful formula and in 1863 set up and built a larger brewery at Knowle Spring, where the company has remained ever since. The brewery remains in the Taylor family and is now the last independent brewery of its type left in West Yorkshire. Taking extra time, care and pride in traditional, hands on brewing, it’s all for that taste of Taylor’s.
