Gin’s popularity has continued to boom over the past few years and Yorkshire is one place that’s leading the way in developing and serving the nation’s favourite tipple.

Located in the heart of Northallerton, The Tithe offers fine craft ales and locally sourced food served in a fresh, modern interior. The spacious ground floor bar is a great place for a friendly drink or a bite to eat, whilst the first floor is the perfect space for holding events. With over 30 gins and new ones being added all the time, it’s an ideal location for a refreshing Gin and Tonic.

The Coach House country pub is located within the grounds of Flamingo Land and provides an ideal venue for lunch whilst exploring the theme park and zoo (theme park tickets required). It is then open independently of the theme park in the evenings for drinks and dinner and can be accessed via a walkway from the main car park (theme park tickets not required in evenings).

Launched by husband and wife, Karl and Cathy Mason. The aim was simple, create a gin that stood out from the crowd, was unique, had more character and essentially more taste. Two years after launch the range was extended with a Lavender Edition, Tea Edition and an Over Ice Vodka. International recognition has been plentiful, they have 45 awards to date. In a crowded market place Masons Yorkshire Gin range stands out as

being premium gins that represent something unique. Masons celebrated it’s 5th birthday in June 2018 and they remain as passionate as ever. The new distillery has a gift shop where you can purchase the award-winning gins. The original gin to be served with orange peel or if you prefer dryer, then a peel of pink grapefruit and crushed black pepper. The Tea Edition is best served with lemon peel and the Lavender with Lime Peel.

Starling has a mean gin shelf featuring over 30 different gins including local offerings from Whittaker’s, Masons and Slingsby, as well as the full range of Fever-Tree tonics to choose from. With 16 draft beers, 12 fine wines by the glass, specialist coffee/tea and a range of freshly prepared food from brunch dishes to Neapolitan pizza, once you’ve found Starling you may well stay all day!

At the Yorkshire Bar and Grill, the aim is to support local suppliers and that includes local gin distilleries, with over 54 gins in stock including Harrogate’s award winning Slingsby Gin, infused with rhubarb. The YB&G think of everything from the garnishes that enhance the botanicals to the style of glass it is presented in. Whilst you’re there, enjoy a gin in the courtyard café and soak up the sun.

They used to prescribe the waters of Harrogate on the National Health Service and in Victorian times, upmarket visitors were advised to visit the spa town for at least six weeks to fully benefit from its restorative qualities. This genteel North Yorkshire retreat is probably better known for Bettys than booze, but just around the corner from the historic tearooms is a new phenomenon which combines the Harrogate waters with an alcoholic drink currently enjoying a modern renaissance – gin. Here you will find a place that doesn’t so much pay tribute to this spirit made from juniper berries as toast it to the heavens. Step off the sloping street and into a beautiful former townhouse converted into an apothecary, where you can learn about the unique history of gin, and taste some of the 100 gins and 50 tonics in store. The Slingsby Spirit of Harrogate Gin Experiences are fast becoming a must-do for locals and tourists alike. Dublin has its Guinness Brewery tour and Edinburgh its Scotch whisky tastings, now Harrogate’s Gin Experiences are on the map too. Behind the venture are entrepreneurs Marcus Black and Mike Carthy, who run £30m drinks company ICB, but wanted to create a premium artisan brand. They spent a year developing their idea before launching Slingsby Gin in September 2015 - named after William Slingsby who discovered the first spa water well in Harrogate in 1571.
