MontanaFair made a major change in its rodeo programming in 2010. The programming switch to become a PRCA sanctioned rodeo has really paid off for the fans. The sanctioned rodeo attracts the very best cowboys in the world to ride in Billings August 16-18 at the Northern Hotel Grandstands. The calendar favors the rodeo. September is the final month cowboys can earn cash toward their positioning for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Polaris in Las Vegas. Only the top 15 cowboys in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping (headers and heelers), saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, WPRA barrel racing and bull riding events earn their way to Vegas. Standings are determined by cash won and cash is determined by the cowboy’s performance. The Cowboy Club at MontanaFair is one of the biggest reasons for the large purses. The members only club has donated nearly $200,000 collectively in prize money for the rodeo. The Cowboy Club is a group of local rodeo fans who love to see great rodeo. The support the club brings the Lithia RAM Trucks presents the Yellowstone River Roundup sponsored by Shipton’s Big R makes it possible for the high quality of rodeo you will see at MontanaFair. Membership to the club is open. The Yellowstone River Roundup Cowboy Club is the biggest sponsor of the event each year. With money being the focus, the Lithia RAM Trucks presents the Yellowstone River Roundup always attracts the best rodeo cowboys. The prize money is the magnet for these

competitors. Lithia RAM Trucks presents the Yellowstone River Roundup is one of the top 4 rodeos in prize money in the PRCA in Montana and has the biggest available purse heading into the Wrangler NFR. Sponsorship is always a big part of how the rodeo purses continue to grow in Billings. Support from the three Billings Shipton’s Big R locations as the rodeo’s primary sponsor, DISH Network, one of the nation’s top satellite programming providers, and Briggs Distributing, the local distributor of Miller/Coors products are essential to the rodeo. Shipton’s Big R always has a big part in the Yellowstone River Roundup. You’ll see the hands wearing bright red Shipton’s Big R vests. Shipton’s Big R also provides the prizes for guests during breaks in the rodeo action. You might be able to grab a Wrangler t-shirt fired into the stands from the grounds. Another favorite for the kids are the stick horses You can also save big at the rodeo with a Wrangler purchase at Shipton’s Big R. Check any of the three Billings locations for details on the offer. Coors is a major sponsor of PRCA rodeo and a major buyer of Montana grown barley. Each night of the event, the Downtown Billings Exchange Club will offer a featured Coors or Miller product for sale in the Northern Hotel Grandstands. DISH Network is the exclusive provider of satellite services to MontanaFair. You can find DISH Network products near the Maingate of the grounds. For the past several years, you can always find 7 or 8 of the top 10 all around cowboys in the world on our rodeo program. Rodeo performances begin each night at 7pm. Slack occurs each afternoon around 1pm. Slack is the rodeo equivalent of having too many performers and not enough time. The Lithia RAM Trucks presents the Yellowstone River Roundup will receive over 600 entries for performance slots in the night time go-rounds. That’s way too many cowboys and cowgirls for a 2-hour rodeo. The names at Slack are dependent on the draw from the PRCA which happens a few days before the event. One of the great enhancements MontanaFair has for the rodeo is the video scoreboard programming. The Singh Contracting scoreboard operation is a four-man job and includes two high definition cameras to bring the rodeo action directly to you. Rodeo is fast and it’s easy to miss something in real time. The slo-motion replays and up to the moment scoring keeps fans in the middle of the action. Lithia RAM Trucks presents the Yellowstone River Roundup. RAM is a major presenter of the PRCA across the country including the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo. Shipton’s Big R is the exclusive western store sponsor of the Yellowstone River Roundup as they have been since the inception in 2010. Rodeo ticket prices are $28 for premium seats, $25 for reserved seating. General admission to the rodeo is $18. Kids 12 and under have a special $14 general admission ticket. Fair admission is included with the purchase of a rodeo ticket. Tickets are online at MontanaFair.com, by phone at 800-366- 8538 or 406-252-2422, at the MetraPark Box Office.
