Tūhura HIVE is our new makerspace located inside the new Johnsonville Library at the Waitohi Community Hub. Giving our customers the oportunity to play with new technology and creative tools Tūhura HIVE offers 3D printing, VR expiriences, sewing machines, laser cut, a compact music studio and so much more. Code Club level 1
Code Club Level 1 is a free coding club for children at the beginning of their coding journey. Students will work their way through a range of fun coding projects supported by coding experts. Registrations are required. Recommended for coders aged 9 - 13.
Code Club level 2
Code Club Level 2 is a free coding club for children who have some coding experience under their belts. Students will select stimulating projects to work through supported by coding experts. Registrations are required. Recommended for coders aged 9 - 13.
Code Club level 3
Code Club Level 3 is a free coding club for experienced coders of all ages. Find your community and explore new coding projects at your own pace. Recommended for coders aged 13+.
Experience VR
Virtual reality (VR) offers us a new and exciting way to learn about and experience the world around us. Use our state-of-the-art facilities to experience VR from the safety and comfort of your local library. Registrations required. Recommended for ages 9 - 99.
Family Maker Saturday/Open Project Time: General Interest
Come along to the HIVE and work on your own ideas and projects using our wide range of creative technologies and tools. These sessions are selfguided, but staff will be on hand to assist if needed. Suitable for ages 14 - 140; children with supervising adults welcome.
Tinker Time
Come to the HIVE after storytime for these handson sessions for little makers. From simple crafts and messy play to fun robots and more, there will be something different to delight your little ones at each session. Recommended for ages 2 - 5 with their caregivers.
Open Project Time: Fibrecraft
Come along to the HIVE and work on your own ideas and projects, focussing on fibrecrafts including weaving, sewing and knitting. These sessions are self-guided, but staff will be on hand to assist if needed. Suitable for ages 14 - 140. Children with supervising adults welcome.
Tech Time: Inspire
Join us at the library to play with and learn about exciting new technologies, from simple robotics and circuit-building to microcomputers and everything in between. No prior knowledge or experience is necessary. Registrations are required. These sessions are targeted at interested adults of all ages.
Open Project Time: 3D Printing

Join us at the library for these seasonal courses focussing on an aspect of digital technology, electronics or robotics chosen by library staff. Registrations are required. Suitable for ages 9 - 99.
Tech Time: Play
Join us at the library to play with and learn about new digital technologies in these hands-on adventures through the worlds of robotics and electronics. Registrations are required. Suitable for children aged 6 - 12 with their caregivers.
