CHARACTERISTIC OF A LABRADOR PUPPIES

Labradors are gentle, intelligent dogs brimming with character and eager to learn. They are good with children, easy to train, and as far as many people are concerned they make for the perfect family dog. You’ll find many of these characteristics already in place in young Labrador puppies.

As with all breeds, the best place to obtain a Labrador puppy is from a reputable Labrador breeder, and there are lots of things to watch out for when you pay your first visit to your prospective new pet. First of all, a happy, healthy Labrador puppy should be behaving like a Labrador! Expect to see a friendly, playful little dog, happy to be handled and showing a cheerful personality. Labrador puppies should also have bright eyes with a clean, shiny coat, and ears, eyes and nose free from any discharge. You should always see the puppy with its mother before you buy.

Teaching your Labrador puppy recall is one of the first tasks, and they are usually quick to learn – though you’ll need to follow the simple rules of teaching recall, especially to have a clear recall signal and to use it only when the Labrador puppy is already on his way to you in the early stages. Labrador puppies usually make quick progress at learning to sit; they’re also good at coming back when called. You can start training a Labrador puppy to walk on a leash early on too, though it’s important to make sure that they don’t spend too much time on the leash at a young age – they’re growing rapidly at this stage and need space to stretch their limbs.
