WELL DONE! In the Silence of the Nighttime by Mike Turner
In the Silence of the Nighttime by Mike Turner
I close my eyes
In the silence of the nighttime
Hearing only my heart
Beating against the inevitability
Of the dawn
Haltingly, reminiscences begin to whisper
Warm summer days
Green eyes and raven hair
The soft rain’s gentle kiss
Against our entwined fingers
Then autumn’s crisp zephyrs
Leaves of bronze and gold
Framing our final embrace
Before our paths diverge
You going on ahead
Now the cold clouds of winter
Pewter skies and bare limbs
Huddling alone before a waning fire
In darkened solitude
Until at last the memories run out
And I am left with only “now”
Tears of the past spent
With no longing for tomorrow
And should the dawn not come
Knowing all that has gone before
Turns to dust in the corners of my soul
In the silence of the nighttime
