Annie McDonnell asks Mike Eberhardt, audible narrator and voice over actor, owner of Super Fun Studios
Every month I choose to interview someone in the literary industry that I believe was born to shine. Mike Eberhardt dedicates his heart and soul to all of his projects. I’d definitely say that he is a method narrator.
Mike is an audible narrator, a voice over actor, and you definitely fall down the rabbit hole once you start looking at his website, Super Fun Studios, because he has a commercial demo reel so you can hear all of his different voices. If you go to the Audible site and search his name, all of the audiobooks that he has narrated will come up, and there are examples of each one, and you will be blown away. It’s always so shocking that one person can create such a variety of voices. There are some books that are meant to be read and there are some books that are meant to be acted out, Mike is one of those narrators that acts it out, so you feel like you’re watching a movie or play in your head as you listen to him read each book.
Voice Over Studio was founded in 2018 in Los Angeles, California. His work can be found on TV, radio, audible, Amazon, Apple, Barnes & Noble, and anywhere books are sold. He is dedicated to working with Pandamoon Publishing, so you can definitely find his work there.
I absolutely fell in love with his voice. There is a book where Mike does over 81 unique characters, with different accents and everything. We started a show called Hearing Voices in 2020 and everybody loved watching Mike narrate because it’s quite entertaining.
When you watch our YouTube interview on WELL READ’s YouTube channel, “Between the Pages”, you’ll get a taste of what I’m talking about.
He got into becoming a narrator when playing dungeons and dragons. Mike was the guy that created the stories and acted them out for the players back in college. I have to admit Mike is such a character himself, he’s so enjoyable.
I use the Proust model when interviewing, created in the 1890’s. I first saw it in Vanity Fair magazine and I was so entertained. A very interesting fact about this is that authors can use this Proust model to learn more about their characters by asking their characters these questions. I thought it would be fun if I asked my guests to answer about ten of the questions.
Q: What is your idea of perfect happiness?
A: Sharing a life with someone where your daily needs are met, where you have a low pain threshold, and you have hobbies that you’d like to pursue. That you can find enjoyment in an area where you like to be outside. It’s actually very simple for me. I like to keep it small. I’m a homebody. For me perfect happiness is sharing a nice little home life.
There is always going to be a lot going on that is not great, but there’s always something that you can focus on that is actually great and for me in my daily life, I strive to focus on those days. So, perfect happiness for me would be a life that enables that full-time.
Q: On what occasion would you lie?
A: In my life, I like to make other people more comfortable
Q: What is the quality you like most in a woman?
A: The ability to be present in the moment. Like not checking your phone. I like to just be there, maybe talking about a book or macaroni (did he just say macaroni instead of pasta ? Haha)
Q: When and where were you the happiest?
A: In the early 2000’s, maybe 2002, I was newly married, working full-time, putting myself through college and I stopped performing. I bought my first house, my favorite baseball team won the World Series, and I got a big screen TV.
Q: What would you consider to be your greatest achievement?
A: Putting myself through college in my early 30s and graduating Magna Cum Laude.
Q: What is your most treasured possession?
A: My audiobooks that have been signed by the authors. I collect all of them.
Q: Who are your favorite writers?
A: Stephen King and Tom Robbins.
Q: What is your greatest regret?
A: That I didn’t start sooner. If there is anyone out there, who’s thinking about trying their dream out, give it a shot right now because you’ll never be younger. It will never be easier than it is today.
Q: What is your motto?
A: “Fight, Fight, Fight”. To me, that means to always be fighting for peace in my mind. Fighting for the people that I love. Fighting for the projects that I’m passionate about.
Q: What excites you?
A: When I do collaborative things.
