Controlled Assessment and Coursework
Assessment in GCSEs and IGCSE comes in three main forms:
Terminal Examination
This is a written examination taken at the end of the course.
Coursework
This is a piece of project work which takes place over an extended period, which is marked by the class teacher and then externally moderated by sending a sample to the examination board.
Controlled Assessment
This is similar to coursework but is done under examination conditions over a shorter time period during class-time.
The following subjects currently contain some assessment by coursework or controlled assessment: Art, Photography, Drama, Music & Wells Music Specialist Certificate, PE.
