Lent Exeat

Accompanied by Mr Murdoch and Mr O’Sullivan, ten of our Year 10 pupils went to Oxford for an Open Day hosted by Lady Margaret Hall.

Pupils enjoyed a tour of the college and were given insights into the working week of an undergraduate. Following this, they attended a session with Dr. Anne Mullen, Senior Tutor and Tutor for Admissions, who gave some useful interview techniques. After lunch in the Dining Hall, the pupils visited the University and Pitt Rivers Museums, then after a wander through the streets of Oxford, they headed back to Wells. The pupils enjoyed a busy and informative day which gave them a valuable chance to think ahead towards their university applications.

Upper Sixth Geography Coastal Management Field Trip

In March, Upper 6th Geographers, along with Mr Boot and Mrs Murdoch, headed to the beach at Porlock Bay to complete a coastal survey. The pupils were studying different approaches to coastal management at Minehead and Porlock Bay. Porlock Bay adopted a soft engineering approach in the mid-1990s following the breach of the shingle ridge that protects low lying land beyond, whereas Minehead by contrast is heavily defended by sea walls and stone groynes. The group were able to investigate hypotheses by examining sediment patterns on Porlock beach.
