Mia Reay Lookbook

As is the case with many passion projects, they start from the most unexpected moments.

Mia Reay was in her library in the English countryside choosing a new wallpaper for the walls. ‘I couldn’t find anything perfect for that space, so I started painting designs myself’ says the Finnish-born artist, who is married to the 15th Lord Reay.

She asked an old friend, decorative painter Graham Carr, to join in on the act of creation. From this creative collaboration many designs were born and Mia Reay Ltd was formed.

Beautiful and authentic hand painted panels - pieces of art in themselves

- are at the heart of each design.

These panels are then carefully transformed into wallpapers. Each design is full of eccentric British charm, complemented by Mia’s passion for nature and global art - whilst retaining a unique touch of her Nordic roots.

The range allows timeless grandeur and spice to be woven into even the smallest of rooms. Many of the designs also invite the end user to be personally creative by offering choice in the way the papers are hung.

Today, Mia Reay designs adorn the walls of prestigious homes around the world and can be seen in many magazines, such as House & Garden and The World of Interiors.

UTOPIA

The Utopia range is inspired by antique Islamic ceramics, depicting an earthly paradise garden.

Available on 52cm (20.47 ´´ ) wide rolls, the design is available in three striking colour variations.

LINEN STAMP

Linen Stamp is inspired by the ancient process of marking or ‘stamping’ with a resist paste or wax. After dyeing, the resist substance is removed, revealing the original fabric colour. The end result is a charming hand drawn look, which is what this decorative pattern is painted to imitate.

The range features two colour variations, both available as a 52cm (20.47 ´´ ) wide roll.

DROTTNINGHOLM TREE

DROTTNINGHOLM TREE

The Drottningholm Tree design is an interpretation of a beautiful hand painted wallpaper in the Primadonna’s dressing room at the Drottningholm Palace theatre in Sweden.

The small size with a width of 52cm ( 20.47 ´´ ) features three tree panels on a roll of 10.05m (395.67 ´´), the large size width of 70cm ( 27.56 ´´ ) features two trees on the same length roll.

PICHWAI LOTUS

The Pichwai Lotus range was inspired by an ancient Indian painted panel (Pichwai) depicting a pool of Lotus flowers, the favourite flower of Lord Krishna. There are four beautiful colours to choose from, all available on a 52cm (20.47 ´´ ) wide roll.

Bukhara is a colourful graphic adaptation of a typical Uzbek Suzani needlework depicting lilies.

The range comes in one width of 52cm ( 20.47 ´´ ) and features a smaller design and a larger design in most colour variations.

BESLER IRIS

BESLER IRIS

Besler Iris is the repeat pattern design of British artist Graham Carr’s favourite iris from the 17th Century illustrated guide to plants ‘The Besler Florilegium’.

It is called Iris Calcedonica Latifolia.

The range is available in two widths, large - 70cm ( 27.56 ´´ ), and small52cm ( 20.47 ´´ ).

The design has five repeat flowers on both widths. The irises are proportionately larger on the 70cm ( 27.56 ´´) wide design.

THE QUEEN’S NECKLACE

This range is inspired by an 18th Century wax resist indigo textile.

Doyen of decorators, John Fowler, had a fragment of this fabric and believed it was made during the scandal of ‘The Diamond Necklace Affair’, whereby Queen Marie Antoinette was accused of being involved in the procurement of an immensely valuable diamond necklace, originally made for Madame du Barry by Boehmer and Bassenge.

The necklace had ropes and tassels of rare diamonds. The range features six different colour variations.

Inspired by an ancient textile, the Plumbago Tree range features a beautiful Tree of Life design in the form of Plumbago Auriculata in flower, complete with its Plumbago flower border.

The design is 70cm (27.56 ´´ ) wide and 125cm (49.21 ´´ ) high. There are 8 designs repeated on each 10.05m (395.67 ´´ ) roll.
