News ABOUT Wendover News...
that it all works properly once we take over. We also need innovators and techies for our proposed online project.
We need people who are just interested in what we do, and can occasionally do some research, take some photos, write an article or just call in with some important news that will be interesting for our readers. This is not something you have to commit to, you don't have to show up every week and you certainly don't even have to think of yourself as a volunteer. That doesn't mean that we won't look after you as if you were!
Some of Wendover News' best volunteers in the past probably didn't think of themselves as badge-carrying Wendover News people: Over 100 people in the last decade have helped out delivering the edition through over 3,000 letterboxes. Others have just chatted to Jane or one of the team and allowed us to turn their knowledge into a news article. You could be one of those.
Tell us what you think!

Elsewhere, we welcomed pupils of John Colet School to our Bowood Lane site on the 6 June to see the tunnel boring machine they named as part of a competition EKFB ran with the school. The TBM was named Patricia after Patricia Gower, long serving Landlady of The Packhorse pub, Patricia’s family also attended the site visit.
We would also like to thank our charity of the year, Lindengate, for hosting our team volunteering day. On 1 June a group of 15 volunteers helped with maintenance for the site through activities like de-weeding, compost turnover, laying of bark on footpaths, planting and adding a stone layer to one of their many ponds. Our team thoroughly enjoyed the day and we look forward to working with them further in the future!
To help you understand exactly what work we will be carrying out around the A413 and why it is required please scan this QR code. We have produced a video using our 4D design model demonstrating upcoming work for the construction of Small Dean Viaduct, including road diversions and utility work.
Music is one of the richest and most versatile resources to enhance general well-being. Few people fail to be moved by the dulcet tones of a soulful ballad, the powerful sound of an orchestra, a happy tune played on a piano, guitar, 'cello, trumpet, saxophone and many other instruments. Access to music is easier than ever, and the choice is endless. We are amazed and delighted to witness the joy in our visitors’ faces when they join in with singing and even dancing at the end of our Monday morning sessions.
Music can evoke both happy and sad memories, but even a tearful moment can be of great therapeutic value. Gentle music can have a calming effect, a faster, more up-beat and cheery tune can encourage movement and exercise. It is an easy and enjoyable task to choose music that is meaningful to a person with dementia, in order to distract them from a tricky subject, to lift their mood or to reduce anxiety. People who struggle with communication often remember words to old familiar songs or hymns and so manage to engage in an unexpected way.
In order to get the most therapeutic help from music, family carers will need to put some effort into encouraging regular music so that it is automatically looked for in any stressful situation. At the Monday Club Café, we help families by lending them a music box downloaded with their personal playlist and by teaching people how to get the best value from them.
