Easter Message

By the time this edition of Wendover News is published we ‘might’ have an idea of what’s happening to our country. These last few months have been hugely unsettling and many look forward to some resolution about Brexit... whatever happens. We want to move forward and be positive about our lives together. Lent (the 40 days of preparation in the Church’s year leading up to Easter) is a time of reflection and renewal; a time to look at our lives . . . how we are leading them, how we are looking after ourselves and how we relate to others and most especially with God. Lots of people give up things but many take up things or use the Lenten season to help others in all sorts of ways. And why do we do this? For Christians it is a certain hope that Jesus died on Good

Friday but rose again on Easter Day to make our lives be full of hope and love. At St Mary’s we are symbolising this through our Lenten cross; the cross is made from the church Christmas tree and the vicarage tree stripped bare and nailed together. Each week a symbol of the Holy Week and Easter story is placed in front of the cross . . . bread & wine, the towel & basin, the crown of thorns, the nails that nailed Jesus to the cross reminding us of the pain that Jesus endured for us all. On Easter Day it will be transformed (as we believe our lives are when Jesus rose from the dead) with flowers to celebrate the joy and hope.

April News We’re 40! Wow! We’re 40 years old this June! We’re privileged to have touched so many lives in our community over the past 40 years and we’d love your continued support so we can be here for the next 40 years. Back in 1979, faith, belonging and coffee stirred The Originals, a group of dedicated and driven volunteers led by Pam Macpherson, to start a Hospice. April 1919

One of the tragic results of the war was the vast number of disabled men. In December 1919 the Minister of Pensions informed the House of Commons that “the number of persons receiving pensions was 2,621,313. These included 1,059,136 pensions for varying degrees of disability.” This number certainly under-estimated the problem in that illnesses associated with war service often took years to develop. The Pensions Act, for example, stated that claims had to be made within seven years of the date of discharge from the army. This ruling later excluded many cases of “shell-shock”, or what became known as posttraumatic stress, on the grounds that they were not registered within the required time period. Even so, by 1922 some 50,000 men were in receipt of pensions as mental cases. The sad story of Corporal Clement Pickop of Wendover suggests that he may well have suffered from shell-shock. Corporal Pickop returned from service in the Holy Land in April 1919. He was received on his arrival at the Station Hotel by a number of his friends and a welcoming address was given by Mr Pedel on behalf of the Parish Council. Corporal Pickop had been a keen sportsman, but in his reply to Mr Pedel he said that he could no longer take part in the sporting life of the town. He declined to talk about his wartime experiences. Corporal Pickop became a rent collector for Wycombe Rural Council, but lost his job in 1923. He became increasingly depressed and tragically committed suicide in 1925. The April 1919 election for the Wendover Parish Council engendered an unusual amount of excitement as, for the first time, women could both vote and stand as candidates. Eleven seats were available and

25 candidates put their names forward for election. Of the eleven successful candidates, three were women. Art Show Success for Chilterns MS Centre provide the vital funds the Centre needs to The Chilterns MS Centre’s Pop-Up Art Weekend in March proved a popular event once again, raising over £16,000 to help people affected by multiple sclerosis (MS) to reach their goals and live healthier and happier lives.

Visitors were greeted by a range of work including paintings, photographs, ceramics, glass and jewellery. Over 85 painters, jewellers, potters, and ceramicists exhibited their work, including Liz Grammenos, Lori North, Geoff Hutchins, Catherine Golds and students from the Buckinghamshire College Group.

Harriet Karia, Head of Fundraising & Communications, said. “It’s fantastic that the community turned out to support the Centre, as we rely so much on the generosity of others to be able to run our services. We help people to do the simple things many of us take for granted, like brushing their own teeth or being able to play with their grandchildren. Such a small thing can make a huge difference to someone living with MS, and the funds raised will help more people with MS to achieve their goals. We thank all of the artists who took part in the exhibition for making this such an excellent show. We also want to thank all of our sponsors, including Michael Anthony Estate Agents, for their invaluable support again this year.“

The annual event raised a record-breaking amount this year, which will make such a difference to families affected by MS in the Chilterns area and beyond. You Write Local Boy makes good

Several of the episodes of 'SILENT WITNESS' as seen on the recent BBC1 series were written by MICHAEL CROMPTON. He is the son of Bill and Margaret Crompton who for many years were proprieters of Crompton Interiors in the High Street. Coincidentally several years ago whilst staying with friends we went to watch a play in the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. To our surprise my wife and I had a starring role "Enid & Lawrence" lived in Crompton Street!! The nearest we have been to stardom. He is obviously a successful playwright for we have seen quite a few of his productions on the BBC. A case of local boy makes good. Lawrence Jeffery

This causes an extremely dangerous situation with cars coming across the bridge out of Wendover, often at high speed. I have contacted TfB, Local and District Councils, Local Councillors and Thames Valley Police, to no avail. There will inevitably be a serious accident caused by this illegal, inconsiderate and dangerous parking, and I hope publicising this may cause them to stop parking in this way and use the spaces they have behind the cottages. name and address supplied Editor's note: the above letter was also published on the Wendover News Facebook page in February

Lindengate Award winning mental health charity Lindengate welcomes new leadership

Lindengate is delighted to welcome new Director, Jan Webster, to lead its transformational organisation and the Lindengate community to the next phase in its evolution. “We are delighted to welcome Jan, whose experience is both vast and specialised – an ideal skill set for meeting the needs of our multi-faceted organisation.” Jan has over twenty years’ experience in supporting organisations with leadership, planning, evaluation and fundraising. Operating in some of the poorest communities in Africa, within challenging environments, Jan has initiated a wellrespected flourishing organisation that works with brain trauma survivors. As an advocate for the positive mental health movement Jan Webster is the visionary leader required to usher Lindengate through a critical time in its expansion. “I am privileged to join Lindengate, an exemplary organisation able to support a variety of different people with a wide spectrum of needs. Our vision for the future is to actively encourage our service users’ voices to get stronger. We aspire to become leaders in the mental health conversation, with a view of raising the profile of mental health awareness.” The award-winning mental health charity has recently celebrated four years since opening its doors to service users, referred to as ‘Gardeners’. Lindengate offers specialised

gardening activities to help those with mental health needs in their continuing recovery. The charity’s services, known as Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH), use the healing power of nature and the outdoors to improve mental wellbeing, boost self-esteem, promote social inclusion and encourage recovery. Social and Therapeutic Horticulture is recognised to be beneficial for a wide range of mental health needs including anxiety, depression, loneliness as well as for people with autism, dementia and head injury. In 2018 Lindengate was recognised with the High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire Award for Services to Mental Health, as well as the Gold Award for the Environment Category in the BBC Three Counties Radio People’s Award. Building on a robust foundation of success, Ms Webster aims to consolidate the many lessons that Lindengate has learned, while keeping the spirit of Lindengate thriving as it grows.

Russell Grant - Lindengate Patron

The Trustees, staff and volunteers are proud to announce that Russell Grant has become a Patron of Lindengate, Mental Health Charity. After a private visit to Lindengate, Russell was impressed by the Social and Therapeutic Horticulture offered to those with mental

Russell was interested that Lindengate organises “Memory Pathways” for those affected by Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Having lost his beloved grandmother, Alice, to Alzheimer’s, and being her carer for nine years, Russell could see the benefit of this bespoke service for our elderly Gardeners. Russell, from Middlesex, began his theatrical career in 1969 and has continued a hugely successful career in theatre, television and film. His hobby, astrology, found him fame as one of the original presenters of BBC’s Breakfast Time. Russell has had a distinguished career winning a Royal Television Society Award as an expert on ITV’s This Morning and BAFTA nominated as ‘TV Highlight of the Year’ for his performance in ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. ‘Dance For Your Life’ is his new Dementia charity. Already launched in Wales, he travelled to Edinburgh for the Scottish launch on 22 March with Professor Tara Spires-Jones, DPhil, UK Dementia Research Institute Programme Lead Deputy Director, Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences. Russell works voluntarily with the leading Alzheimer’s charities in the United Kingdom.

HS2 The Treasury Review

The amount of stick that HS2 is getting in the press shows that it’s not just me that has noticed how poorly led this project is. It also demonstrates how ill equipped government is when it comes to assessing the need for big projects and how inept they are in selecting and managing delivery partners. Surely, no matter where this project ends up there has to be a public enquiry into how it’s been managed. The latest worrying example of this government muddle seems to surround the Treasury Review. This is the same Treasury Review that Liz Truss MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, recently suggested might lead to a white elephant cull. HS2 was to be reviewed in March 2019 but now it’s to be in “late summer”. HS2 is expecting to be given Notice to Proceed by Transport Minister Chris Grayling in July 2019. This raises a couple of questions. Why is the HS2 element of the Treasury Review delayed? Is the government more or less likely to shut down a failing project when it’s just got going, employing tens of thousands of people, and busily grubbing up the countryside? We have asked David Lidington our MP to investigate for us.

The Letter

Greatworth and Halse Parish Councils, South Northamptonshire PCs affected by the route, have asked all of the PCs along the line to sign a letter that they have produced, to go to MP’s, asking for HS2 to be stopped. Wendover Parish Council’s long held policy is not to try to stop the HS2 project. It is to get the best possible mitigation for Wendover. This is seen as being a mined tunnel past the village. Our stance has opened many doors to us. We have spoken to Ministers and their advisors, MPs and members of the House of Lords, senior people at HS2 Ltd and the Main Works Contractor. We currently have live discussions in place on Noise, Hydrogeology and Tunnelling and a host of other subjects. We and our advisers believe that this engagement would be impossible to sustain if our message was simply STOP. Following discussions at working group and full Council level it was agreed that WPC should maintain its current position. I have therefore written to Greatworth and Halse PCs, explained Wendover’s position and declined their offer.

The Report

The above is a national enigma. Wendover In January 2019 we received the OTBE report has a couple of posers of its own at present. that lays out the facts that make the Wendover

Mined Tunnel a sensible and economical solution for DfT/HS2. On the 15th we shared it with David Lidington MP. On the 25th we met with David who confirmed that he had passed the report to Nusrat Ghani MP. In March in the House of Lords, Baroness Young requested... To ask Her Majesty’s Government what assessment they have made of the reports by OTB Engineering, published in January, and Michael Byng, published in July 2017 on the Short-Mined Tunnel alternative proposal to the HS2 Phase One route at Wendover; and whether they will place copies of both reports in the Library of the House. Hansard In a written response on the 4th of March, Baroness Sugg for Government stated... The Department for Transport has not received a report by OTB engineering published in January 2019 regarding the HS2 Phase One route at Wendover. Hansard As a result of this rather alarming development our lobbyist has now delivered copies of the OTBE report to all ministers at the DfT. On 6 March and again on the 8th we asked David Lidington to find out what has gone wrong here. At the time of writing we have not had a response. We are chasing for answers. Tom Walsh

Club Corner Wendover and Chiltern Hills Bowls Club

The last few matches of the indoor season will be completed by the beginning of April and we will be heading outdoors on to our splendid green to face completely different challenges. Much more effort is needed to propel the wood across the green than in the more gentle indoor game, especially at the start of the season when the ground is soft. Over the winter a great deal of work has been carried out on and around the bowling green, which will make bowling even more enjoyable. Every Tuesday afternoon and most Friday evenings, we will continue to hold Club Turn Up and Play “Roll-ups” for members. These regular club events are known as “Spoon Drives”. The Club welcomes new members and if you have ever thought of playing or taking part in this popular sport do give it a try. The social side of the Club’s life is also busy, starting off with our splendid “Season Opening Dinner”. Our hard working Social Secretary has a whole string of events planned for the coming months. Elsewhere in this issue of Wendover News you will find details of our open evenings when you can come along and give bowls a go. You will receive gentle coaching and everything is provided, all we ask is that you wear soft soled shoes without a heel, although we do have a small supply of shoes we can lend you. See advert page 7. Don Knight says, “This club is about so much more than just bowls. I joined just over a year ago having never even picked up a bowl before in my life. I have found nothing but encouragement and friendliness, even when I manage to play a rubbish game there is always a pat on the back and a ‘well done’. Give it a try, the club is right here on your doorstep.”

Wendover FC gets a makeover

If you have been down to our clubhouse recently you will have noticed that we have had a little makeover. With the generous support of LAST, our clubhouse has undergone some much needed updating to its bar and kitchen areas. This work has really brought the club back to life and we look forward to welcoming new and familiar faces down there on match days. In March the club hosted its annual quiz night this year in conjunction with The Wendover Sparrowhawks. We had a fantastic turnout on the night and managed to raise an incredible £450 for Scope. This year’s winners, for the third year running (!), were The Supporters team. A great night was had by all and we look forward to another event next season. Wendover FC Committee would like to welcome back former First Team Manager Mike Gregory who has been appointed as Reserve Team Manager to support our Club Manager Jack Thomson.

info@wendoverneighbourhoodplan.co.uk Consultation

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the consultation which closed on 21 March. This date fell after Wendover News went to press so it has not been possible to publish an analysis in this edition of Wendover News. Examples of comments on Post-it notes collected at the Drop-In Exhibition: Ashbrook Playing Field - zebra crossing needed across Aylesbury Road for school children and those going to the park. Traffic is too fast at all times of day. Halton Wood Road - linked up cycle routes both on and off roads are needed, linking important sites within Wendover. Existing routes to other towns are now dangerous. McIndoe Drive - Parking at Princess Mary Gate is terrible. Developers must provide parking spaces that are useful. Warneford Avenue - The green space in Warneford Avenue is used as a park for children and a public walk-through. This space should be protected as the residents have cut/cleaned this area for 23+ years.

Residents at the Drop-In Exhibition on Saturday 9 February

Wharf Road - The speed limit in Manor Road and Wharf Road is 30mph. it should be 20mph. During the busiest periods traffic is its own regulator but during the majority of the day - when children are just as likely to be out and about - vehicles speed along there. Thank you, too, to all the people who wrote supportive and informative comments by email. A Consultation Statement will now be prepared to send to Wendover Parish Council in May, the next step in the path towards the Final Plan which will later be put to a local referendum.

It has been wonderful to see how local people have shown enthusiasm and willingness to confront this issue and many are working hard to break down stigmas and help people with memory loss and dementia in our local village.

Fighting Plastic The Village Gate

The latest business to feature in the Wendover News Fighting Plastic pages is The Village Gate. Visitors will notice immediately that the beer mats are paper based, the only straws on offer are fully biodegradable and that sweets are on sale in this family friendly pub but loose not packaged. Bottle usage is reduced by extending the pump range, including Coke Zero. During the refit Nigel Playford, the new owner, fitted low energy LEDs to reduce the cost of lighting and he is actively looking to swap to a 100% renewable energy supplier. The building is not on main drainage so it uses an eco friendly soak away to deal with foul water. The premises owner, Heineken, is a forward looking company which encourages this type of initiative. It is committed to reducing its packaging and the pub recycles wherever possible. Wendover Celebrates the future

Wendover Celebrates the future in 2020 with 2020 vision. This means the beneficiaries will be our future - our young people. Wendover Celebrates is a community activity so beneficiaries are usually local organisations. The Directors are already working on bringing a brilliant Wendover Celebrates into life in 2020, and they would love to hear your ideas on who should benefit. Wendover Celebrates has often supported local young people: • 2012: Chiltern Way Academy was one of the beneficiaries and they are our generous hosts once again. • 2014: the major beneficiary was locally based charity Pace. Pace has been a great supporter of Wendover Celebrates ever since, including providing some very interesting vehicles for the Parade. www.wendovernews.co.uk

• 2016: the emphasis was on pre-school children with their full support and grants to local organisations which teach children essential skills such as swimming and team sports. • 2018: there was a particular emphasis on local sports clubs. They responded by giving fantastic taster sessions on the day inviting our primary school age children in particular to become and remain active.

To suggest a beneficiary, please get in touch through the website wendovercelebrates.com An event of this size is only possible through hundreds of volunteers kindly giving their time. Whether it’s just for a couple of hours or the whole day, Wendover Celebrates gives local residents a great opportunity to be involved with what is arguably the most successful and well-attended event in Wendover. Why not join the fun?

The must-see aviation art gallery right on your doorstep! Did you know that there is no other place in the entire WORLD that so regularly welcomes Second World War veterans for public events than Aces High Aviation Art Gallery? Indeed, Aces High is the foremost specialist in aviation fine art worldwide, and it is right on your doorstep here in Wendover! Fondly known as ‘Wendover’s best kept secret’, the gallery is a hidden gem that has become a home away from home for collectors and enthusiasts not just from all over the UK, but all over the globe. But its doors are always open for new faces and friends, and even if you have no idea what to expect from visiting, one thing you can be sure of is that a warm welcome – and a complimentary cuppa! – awaits. So, what exactly is Aces High? Well, the business has been in the village for over 23 years across three different locations. After starting up in one of the loft spaces in the eaves of the 16th century stable blocks just off the High Street next to Antiques of Wendover, Aces High then spent 17 years in Vine Tree House on Back Street, before establishing a two-floor gallery down at 2 Station Approach, its current home. Stepping into the gallery is to take a step back in time. Immediately, you feel as if you have entered a different world, as classic wartime songs gently hum through the speakers and you begin to take in the surrounding original artefacts from the Second World War: there are countless wartime propellers

Wendover News April 2019

signed by veterans who flew in the aircraft; cabinets full of compasses and machinery; original uniforms worn by officers from all areas of the Allied and German forces. As you go upstairs, you can ring an original ‘scramble bell’ used to alert RAF squadrons during the War. But it is the stunning artwork that covers the walls on both levels that makes Aces High so wonderfully unique. The gallery works with the most collectable aviation and military

artists worldwide, such as Robert Taylor, Gerald Coulson and many more, and there are hundreds of original oil paintings, original drawings, and limited edition prints on display. Almost all of them are personally signed by distinguished WWII veterans, making them rare collector’s pieces which are now becoming impossible to replicate. You could spend hours becoming lost in the beauty and poignancy of the artwork – each picture aims to portray the relevant aircraft or mission with as much detail and historical accuracy as possible. These pictures are real pieces of history, real experiences, and must be treasured.

On two or three Sundays of every month, the Wendover gallery welcomes WWII veterans to meet enthusiasts and sign books and prints. Over the years these events have become legendary, with the gallery hosting such distinguished veterans as Dame Vera Lynn, the ‘Last Dambuster’ ‘Johnny’ Johnson, and the youngest Battle of Britain pilot Geoffrey Wellum, as well as veterans Roy Briggs, Doug Joss and George Black from Wendover! These events still happen, and the best part is, they are absolutely FREE to attend! All you need to do is have a look for upcoming events at www.aces-high.com, and contact the gallery to reserve your space. We encourage you to make the most of this amazing opportunity while you still can. If you think you’d like to visit the gallery avoiding the hustle and bustle of a busy event day, it is open 7 days a week. There is no admission fee, and there is no obligation to make a purchase – however, anyone who brings in this article will receive £10 off any purchase that day. The gallery is simply a lovely environment in which to learn more about the history of the World Wars in a way you probably never have before. Whether you’re looking for an informative and fun pastime with the kids, passing by on the way back from a walk, or just looking for something new and interesting, Aces High is the place for you. ‘Wendover’s best kept secret’ looks forward to welcoming you! Youth Would you like to be a Trustee?

Local organisations need Trustees to function but people tend to be scared to volunteer as they are worried about the commitment. Wendover Youth Centre (WYC) is one such organisation so chairman Tony Playle agreed to be interviewed by Wendover News to explain what it's all about. What does a Trustee do? A Trustee's job is to give oversight, not necessarily to become operational. They will give general guidance, contribute to the Business Plan for the organisation and make sure that expenditure is compatible with that Plan. In the case of WYC, this includes the safeguarding of members, volunteers and staff.

What skills do you need? The most important qualification is some experience of life and an interest or passion for the activity governed by the Trust. A sense of community is invaluable and some experience of management (not necessarily professional). For WYC hands on experience with children or grandchildren is very welcome. Younger trustees bring vigour.

How do you become a Trustee? At WYC a potential Trustee will sit on the board as an observer in the first instance. If they enjoy the experience, a more formal development can occur. Is it a life sentence? Any organisation needs constant renewal. At WYC no Trustee can stand for more than two sessions, each of three years.

How much time does it take? In Tony's case, as chairman, he devotes 2-3 evenings a month to WYC. Other Trustees How did you become a Trustee? tend to give 1-2 evenings a month. Attending A personal approach is the usual route to becoming a Trustee. meetings is essential.

Tribute: Mary Mogford thrill of the hunt but was not beyond helping a wily fox escape the hounds, until one polished off all of her son's chickens.

Mary Pheby was born in Deal, Kent on 5 May 1935. Her father worked for the National Provincial Bank and was appointed Bank Manager for Wendover so she moved here age 9. She attended the Farm School, Wendover Dean, opposite the then blacksmith. The family lived in the lovely Brook House in Tring Road, now developed as 3 dwellings. She was madly keen on horses, particularly jumping horses, and even as a school girl was sought after to jump for other owners of horses at national and international events at Haringey and White City.

She was naturally very shy but her parents had been very community minded so when her Tone started work for Wendover she made an enormous effort. To raise money for the Wendover Swimming Pool she ran the Wendover Horse Show and Gymkhana for many years. She also supported Ladies vs Wendover Mens Football Club, Nomads, the Bowls Club and many other activities.

Local Face: Mary Sketch Mary was born near Leeds where she lived as the third of four sisters, her twin, Margaret, being the older by 20 minutes! Having attended Notre Dame Collegiate School for 3 years, Mary had one year in Edinburgh in Holy Cross Academy before the family moved due to a promotion for her father, a Civil Engineer who became the “Divisional Road Engineer for Wales and Monmouth” in the Civil Service.

Since Tony’s death, Mary has become more deeply involved with Churches Together in Wendover. A team of four, including Mary, led two very enjoyable Lent courses in prayer a few years ago, and Mary has been able to lead two days on the Psalms (which she loves) and a half day of meditation, which is to be followed this Lent by a morning of meditations for this season of the Church’s year. She is also involved in the Ecumenical Services of Healing and Wholeness which now take place monthly in St Anne’s or St Mary’s. Mary loves the fact that the three churches can pray and work together and that St Anne’s is the home of Wendover Free Church as well as her Roman Catholic “family”.

In Cardiff she attended Heathfield House RC High School for three years, followed by the University of Wales, Cardiff College, where she obtained a First Class Honours degree in Latin. Mary retains her love of words, which she finds fascinating.

Mary met Tony Sketch, working as a Civil Mary started volunteering at Wendover Engineer but with Glamorgan County Council, Library two years after Tony died, and is glad and married him after teaching for a year to give something back to the village. Later, the family spent four happy years in Swansea before Tony became the Deputy and later the County Engineer for Buckinghamshire. 20 years in Aylesbury, where St Joseph’s RC Church was important in Mary and later Tony’s lives, were followed by their time in Wendover. Tony died nine years ago, and the last few months were difficult. Mary has now lived here for 21 years. All those years ago, Mary taught RE to “her” class, 2a, in Tredegar Park, Newport (now owned by the National Trust) and perhaps this led later to her great interest in Christian Spirituality. Happy years in the Charismatic Prayer Group at St Joseph’s were followed by 3 years as a student in the Chiltern Christian Training Programme which later became a Local Ecumenical Project. Nine topics were studied, and Mary later led the courses on “Growing in Prayer” in Aylesbury and High Wycombe. She wrote two books for those leading groups in prayer in connection with her work with the RCIA Group in St. Joseph’s, and a privately published book of her own prayers.

Matters Arising Wendover Parish Council Page

View from the Chair

In the natural world April is a time for the new. In the WPC world I’m in a more reflective mood. Wendover has had an interesting year. The Best Kept Village accolade has sat well with us and the grounds team and the WI, who are now caring for the planting outside “Istanbul”, are keen to succeed again. I’ve resisted the Istanbul humour. The PC’s resurfacing of the Heron Path is completed, one year ahead of programme, and looking great. Our Neighbourhood Plan Group, through incredibly hard work, has developed an excellent draft plan that I’m pretty sure will lead to an acceptable, made plan being incorporated into The Vale of Aylesbury Plan (VALP). The new Parish Clerk, Keith, has settled in and he and his team are extremely approachable and engaging so service delivery is continuing to improve. For the future the PC needs to keep an eye on some big stuff. The Unification of AVDC/ BCC etc. VALP and the RAF Halton closure rumble on. HS2 is it seems always with us. More locally I’m concerned at the difficulty local clubs and organisations seem to have in recruiting helpers, members and all kinds of doers. Wendover is an interesting place and much of that interest is generated by the wide range of activities offered by volunteers. They are struggling more than ever to recruit though, and so their future is threatened. The PC has two vacancies at present.

and Assistant Clerk walked down the first 100 metres of Heron Path and counted 22 incidents of dog fouling! No one should have to put up with the actions of irresponsible dog owners. Dog mess is a health hazard and can be particularly horrid for those playing sports, using the fitness trails and our team of grounds men when they strim the Bonfires in Allotments We have banned bonfires at our allotments grass. Offenders can be issued with a fixed at Hogtrough Lane and London Road in line penalty notice or a fine of up to £1000! with our new Environmental Policy. There are Parish Council Meeting health concerns about air pollutants in smoke, Tuesday 2 April, 7.30pm including carbon monoxide, dioxins and St Anne’s Hall particles. Burning waste can prevent people from enjoying their gardens, opening windows or hanging out washing. Smoke and fumes Facebook affect air quality and can damage health. Let’s Did you know that we have our own all try and play our part in making Wendover Facebook page?! Follow us to be the first to know about the latest on goings from your that much more environmentally friendly. local Council. If you see anything interesting around Wendover, why not snap a quick Local Produce Market pic and send it to us? Your image could be Saturday 20 April 9am to 1pm featured on our page! Manor Waste

Responsible Dog Ownership

As of late there has been an increase in I must mention one little project that the WPC is complaints and incidents regarding dog www.facebook.com/wendoverparish/ moving forward on. That is to refurbish the area fouling. On 27 February 2019, the Deputy beside the clock tower where the water trough Wendover Parish Council, The Clock Tower, High Street, Wendover HP22 6DU is. It’s looking a bit neglected so a refresh and repair to brick and stonework and reconnection www.wendover-pc.gov.uk clerk@wendover-pc.gov.uk 01296 623056 to the water supply is on the cards.
