the faces and places of West Seattle, WA By:Wendy Lister
WEST SEATTLE, WA Birthplace of Seattle West Seattle is a hilly district west of the Duwamish River, made up of several neighborhoods, a beachfront, large parks and memorable views of the Seattle skyline, Puget Sound and the Cascade and Olympic mountains. Each summer, during the Seafair celebration, an Alki Beach landing party re-enactment commemorates where Seattle was founded by the Denny Party settlers in 1851. The community hosts several popular natural settings, including Alki Beach, Lincoln Park, Longfellow Creek and Trail, Schmitz Preserve Park and Westcrest Park. Washington State Ferries in the Fauntleroy neighborhood serve Vashon Island and Southworth on the Kitsap Peninsula. A shuttle ferry, the West Seattle Water Taxi, runs over to downtown Seattle.
