THINGS TO KNOW
Lighting is a learning process! Use the resources here and throughout the brochure to make your landscape lighting project the best it can be.
ACCENT LIGHT BEAM SPREAD OPTIONS
Match the type of tree and foliage to the ideal beam spread to create eye-catching displays of light.
10° - 15° is a tall and thin beam of light. This is perfect for thinner trees and column features.
25° - 45° is a medium beam of light. This is ideal for general accent lighting and smaller trees.
55° - 60° is a wide beam of light. This is best suited for full and broad trees and wide features.
120° is a very wide beam of light. This is used for wall washing, grazing and short wide objects.

Small Deciduous Medium Deciduous Large Deciduous Large Conifer
Most small deciduous trees only need one accent light with a 35° beam spread. However, if viewed regularly from different angles, it may need two accent lights.
Aim the light at the canopy, while alllowing the beam to graze the trunk of the tree.
LINEAR PATH LIGHTING
A medium deciduous will need at least a single accent light with a 60° beam spread. However, two lights with a 35° beam spread is the best option. This will create a cross lighting effect.
Focus lights at the canopy, with some light grazing the trunk.
A large deciduous tree will need light from several angles to create a beautiful effect.
Place two accent lights with a 35° or 60° beam at the base of the tree, with another 15° beam at the trunk. The last light will be placed in the canopy pointing up.
Large conifers look stunning with a total capture technique. Use two 60° beam spreads illuminating the tree from either side, creating a beautiful 360° visual.
Place the light fixtures further away from the base of the tree. Focus light on the canopy.
For a modern and clean look, try a linear installation pattern for your path lighting. Install fixtures 12’ apart for an appealing display, leaving 2’ to 9’ between pools of light.
