End-to-end thinking

The urgent imperative of community broadband Broadband access is essential for connecting people with each other, and with the digital world. The US government wants to build a sustainable gigabit future for all Americans and has made nearly $100 billion in funding available through various programs such as BEAD, RDOF and ARPA. But time is of the essence – the digital divide continues to widen for the unconnected and for that reason federal and state funding programs come with ambitious timelines. Bringing high-speed connectivity to households or communities is an intricate process that can challenge even the most experienced broadband network builders. Beyond planning, investment and technical expertise, operators need to be able to source a wide range of components and networking equipment all while ensuring their quality and compatibility.

Additionally, global supply chain complexities, compounded by factors like changes in supply, demand and geopolitics, lead to procurement bottlenecks and price fluctuations that can all impact costs and deployment times. Nokia’s Network-in-a-box program drastically simplifies this process by providing everything you need to deploy a broadband network as a single bundled solution.

In-home broadband devices The in-home network is crucial for delivering a great broadband experience. After all, there’s little point delivering premium fiber broadband to the home if it’s completely undone by poor Wi-Fi connectivity within the home. Nokia broadband devices are powered by Corteca, an end-to-end software suite that delivers an exceptional experience for subscribers, while helping you reduce costs and create new revenues. Network-in-a-box includes elements from our market-leading fiber optical network terminals (ONTs), 5G fixed wireless access gateways, and WiFi Beacons.

Brownfield networks Migration Nokia Multi-PON optics combine XGS-PON and GPON on the same optics module making it a convenient choice for greenfield areas served by the same OLT. This is all enabled by the use of a Coexistence module which combines GPON, XGS-PON and 25G PON wavelengths enabling your complete fiber network for fiber for everything use cases such as Enterprise services, mobile backhaul and Industry 4.0.

If you’re already deploying fiber networks with GPON or other technologies, you may be looking to upgrade to higher speeds. With Network-in-a-box you can easily start deploying XGS-PON over your existing GPON network without disturbing existing services. This overlay then allows you to add XGS-PON subscribers as needed to support multi-gigabit and enterprise services on that PON.

OSS/BSS integration is key which is why the Nokia Altiplano Controller uses open APIs to work in a multi-vendor environment. And our work with OSS/BSS partners ensures readiness to integrate into existing networks.

Building your network

Build America, Buy Nokia The U.S. government Build America, Buy America Act (BABA) requires that federally funded infrastructure projects — such as the BEAD program — use American-made iron, steel, construction materials and manufactured products. The goal is for taxpayer dollars funding U.S. infrastructure projects to be invested back into American jobs and manufacturing.

We owe it to our rural communities to build networks that secure their broadband future now. It starts with fiber infrastructure. Fiber is the most future-proof and greenest way of bringing high-speed broadband to the masses, and fiber infrastructure can serve your community’s needs today and the next 50 years.

Nokia is proud to be the first telecom equipment vendor to manufacture fiber-optic broadband products in the U.S. for use in the BEAD program.
