MEDIA RELEASE When I assumed office in January, I was extremely gratified when former Deschutes County Sheriff Les Stiles agreed to join my staff in the DA’s Office. There was no formal position that existed at that time. Consequently, Les graciously agreed to work as “parttime extra help.” I asked him to develop policies and procedures for the creation of an investigative staff, to conduct a security analysis for the District Attorney’s Office, to evaluate existing IT functions in the office, and to evaluate various management protocols in need of modernization. Les has completed those projects well ahead of schedule. Because of the efficiencies they would bring to our office, I had hoped that we could create two half-time DA investigator positions prior to the end of this fiscal year. Unfortunately, due to budgetary constraints faced by all county-funded departments, that was not possible. Les will be leaving the DA’s Office on or before May 1. We have benefited greatly from his assistance and knowledge, and look forward to implementing his recommendations that will modernize and enhance the productiveness of the DA’s Office. Les is very active in many community groups and boards, teaches management practices at the college level, and is an avid fly fisherman. We suspect he will not be bored. Thank you again Les for the many years of service you have given to the citizens of Deschutes County. Patrick J. Flaherty Deschutes County District Attorney
