2015 Chevrolet Silverado HD

Making Those Tough Jobs Easier

T

he new 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD are engineered to be stronger and smarter, delivering the capability heavyduty truck customers demand, along with greater refinement and control for more comfort and confidence on the job and on the road. “Heavy-duty pickups are tools that people use to tow heavy trailers and haul big loads,” said Jeff Luke, executive chief engineer. “Great tools like the new Silverado HD pickups don’t just get the job done; they make the work easier, and help you feel more confident tackling the really tough jobs.” The 2015 Silverado HDs are the heavy lifters in Chevrolet’s three-truck strategy, which includes the all-new 2014 Silverado 1500 and, later this year, the 2015 Colorado midsize truck. “No other manufacturer gives customers so many choices,” said Luke. “For example, the new Silverado HDs offer more than 150 combinations of cabs, bed lengths, powertrains, drivetrains and axle ratios, enabling customers to buy exactly the right truck for their towing and hauling needs. “Customers don’t drive spec sheets — they put real trucks to work every day, year in and year out, to run their businesses, earn their livings, and take care of their families,” said Luke. “So as we roll out our new lineup of trucks and SUVs, we are focusing on the real-world needs of these truck customers.” Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD models available in Work Truck (WT), LT and LTZ trims, and offered in regular cab, double cab and crew cab configurations (regular cab available only in WT and LT trims). The new double cab model replaces the previous extended cab and features forward-hinged rear doors, which allow easier access in tight parking spaces.

The trucks are available with allnew, stronger 6-foot/6-inch and 8-foot cargo boxes with standard CornerStep bumpers, EZ Lift-and-Lower tailgates, and other features that make cargo handling easier.

ADVANCED

“The team that created the 2015 Silverado HD went to extremes to deliver a truck that would live up to Chevrolet’s

reputation for building the most dependable, longest lasting pickups,” said Luke. “And with the wide range of configurations, there is a Silverado HD to suit just about every task.” The 2015 Silverado HD will be available with segment-exclusive safety features such as Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning with an Active Safety Seat, and Front and Rear Park Assist. Head-curtain and seat-mounted

side airbags are standard on 2500 and available on 3500 models. An available Z71 package on 2500HD and 3500HD includes Rancho monotube shocks (2500HD only), Hill Descent Control, underbody shields, brushedmetal Z71-logo door sill plates, Z71logo gauge cluster, uniquely finished interior trim, unique lower front bumper appearance, unique grille with Z71 badge and Z71-logo cargo box graphics.

2015 Chevrolet Tahoe

More Capable, More Comfortable

R

edesigned inside and out, the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe was developed to be more functional and refined, while offering more safety features and a greater range of advanced technologies for today’s connected customers. The all-new version of the industry’s best-selling full-size SUV is also more efficient — including nearly 10-percent greater highway efficiency — thanks to a range of vehicle-wide enhancements that include more aerodynamic designs and a new, direct-injected EcoTec3 5.3L engine. Improved aerodynamics also contributes to a quieter interior. The new Tahoe was redesigned along with the Chevrolet Suburban. Together they hold almost 50 percent of the segment and play an important role in the brand’s success — and General Motors’ profitability. Chevrolet supports Tahoe customers with two years/24,000 miles (whichever comes first) of scheduled maintenance, which covers four services of an oil change, tire rotation and 27-point inspection. It complements the three-year/36,000mile (whichever comes first) bumperto-bumper limited vehicle warranty and five-year/100,000-mile (whichever comes first) powertrain limited warranty.

DESIGN

The exterior design of the 2015 Tahoe is more refined and precisely sculpted. New inlaid doors fit into the body side openings instead of over the top of the body, significantly improving the quietness of the interior cabin and contributing to improved aerodynamics — an attribute that helps the vehicles slip through the air on the highway with less drag for greater efficiency. Lightweight aluminum hood and

liftgate panels also enhance efficiency through reduced overall mass.

INTERIOR

The interior of the new Tahoe has been refined to enhance functionality and comfort, while delivering the technologies and connectivity that are more important than ever. Premium materials and enhanced ergonomics demonstrate the SUVs’ blend of

sophistication, craftsmanship and function. The instrument panel, for example, has a straightforward design featuring a large, easy-to-view cluster. It includes a 4.2-inch color driver information center display in the center of the cluster, for vehicle, infotainment and other data. There’s also an eight-inch-diagonal color touch screen radio on LT and LTZ models in the center of the instrument panel,

incorporating secured storage behind the motorized screen.

TECHNOLOGY

The 2015 Tahoe’s next-generation MyLink gives customers the best of both worlds when it comes to infotainment. It provides easy, intuitive operation of basic functions, yet it is also highly customizable.

The 2015 Ram ProMaster continues to answer the call of businesses everywhere. ProMaster has experienced great success in an expanding, purposebuilt, full-size van segment with a number of best-in-class features focused on the commercial customer. Coming from a strong background of commercial vehicles produced by Fiat Professional, the ProMaster is based on the Fiat Ducato, which has been in production for more than 30 years. ProMaster boasts numerous best-inclass features, which are appreciated by the hard-working customers of Ram’s full size van. Best-in-class fuel efficiency, usability, and of course, total cost of ownership, all combine to deliver a proven solution for businesses and fleets.

ENGINE

EcoDiesel: The 2015 Ram ProMaster marks the North American introduction of the potent 174-horsepower 3.0-liter inline four-cylinder EcoDiesel engine, which generates peak torque of 295 lb.ft. at just 1,400 rpm. The engine features a number of refinements, including internal engine components, turbo and emission controls. Helping to reduce total cost of ownership, an oil-level sensor contributes to an oil-change schedule of up to 18,500 miles. Pentastar: The standard-equipment 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 is rated at 280 horsepower with peak torque of 260

lb.-ft., the dual overhead cam, 24-valve Pentastar delivers the capability required of a commercial van without compromising refinement — hallmarks that contributed to its ranking among Ward’s 10 Best Engines.

F

Stylish Versatility & Economy

ord Escape, one of the best-selling utilities in America, brings a chic package for 2015 offering customers advanced technology, style, great fuel economy and a spirited driving experience in a small, five-passenger utility vehicle. “Ford Escape’s popularity is born of its reputation for great fuel economy, versatility and technology aimed at helping customers — all in a sleek design,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “This is a competitive segment, and Escape offers features and amenities that make it irresistible to customers.” Escape’s signature technology is its available hands-free liftgate that allows fast and easy access to the cargo area with a gentle kicking motion. The technology is also available with the Class II trailer tow package enabling up to 3,500 pounds of towing capability. Along with versatility, great fuel economy is another reason Escape is popular with customers. The 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine is now standard on the SE series. Customers can also select the 2.0-liter EcoBoost or the 2.5-liter iVCT I-4. An available chrome appearance package includes elegant accents like chrome door handles, liftgate appliqué, skull caps, roof rails, rear license plate appliqué and chrome trim on the front fascia grilles; 19-inch wheels; and leatheraccented seats. Magnetic Metallic debuts as a new color for 2015.

SMOOTH AND ENGAGING

Escape’s EcoBoost engines come standard with specially calibrated six-speed SelectShift® Automatic transmissions that can provide a more hands-on experience via manual gear selection control.

EcoBoost engine torque is specially engineered to provide a fluid shifting experience and enhanced fuel economy. The available intelligent all-wheeldrive system uses software and sensors to analyze data from 25 external signals including wheel speed, accelerator pedal position and steering wheel angle, gauging road conditions and driver input.

It performs this task 20 times faster than the blink of an eye. The system uses the sensor inputs to help the driver turn the vehicle — adding and subtracting torque as needed via an electromagnetic clutch to deliver confident handling and traction performance in a variety of conditions. The Escape also has Curve Control technology to assist the driver by

automatically slowing the vehicle when it’s cornering too fast. It also has Torque Vectoring Control, which helps by applying brake force to the front inside wheel. This allows for more engine torque to be applied to the outside wheel for better handling and traction.

A new top-of-the-line Touring trim includes the first Honda application of two advanced driver-assistive technologies, Collision Mitigation Braking System and Lane Keeping Assist System, and the first CR-V adoption of Adaptive Cruise Control. These improvements, especially the significant feature upgrades and new line-topping Touring trim, provide customers with more value and choice than ever before. Add in its car-like interior comfort and smooth, quiet ride, and the enhanced and upgraded 2015 Honda CR-V sets a new benchmark for the highly competitive compact SUV segment.

TECHNOLOGY

The 2015 CR-V includes easy-to-read instrumentation and, for the first time on CR-V, Honda’s new 7-inch touchscreen display audio telematics interface. Display audio, standard on EX and above trim levels, allows the user to tap, pinch and swipe — just like on a smartphone or tablet — to control audio and other telematics features, including the available next-generation HondaLink and the satellite-linked navigation system. All CR-Vs retain the full-color intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID) that offers a range of customizable features via fingertip controls on the steering wheel. The CR-V’s audio and telematics systems

include a standard Pandora Internet interface and SMS text messaging function, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink phone interface.

POWERTRAIN

The 2015 CR-V’s new Earth Dreams Technology 2.4-liter direct-injected DOHC i-VTEC inline 4-cylinder engine produces 181 lb.-ft. of torque, an 11-percent increase over the previous

engine’s 163 lb-ft while making the same 185 horsepower. The new lighter-weight engine is mated to a new continuously variable transmission (CVT) with G-design Shift that provides smooth, seamless ratio changes and contributes to increased fuel economy.

SAFETY

As with all Honda vehicles, safety is a

primary focus, starting with the CR-V’s next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure that helps make the CR-V highly effective at absorbing and dispersing the energy of a frontal collision. Overall, the body receives more than 60 changes to improve stiffness and collision performance, and the 2015 CR-V is targeted to achieve top safety ratings.

Sporty, Fun & More Fuel Efficient

H

onda unveiled the all-new 2015 Fit recently, which is completely redesigned from the ground up to deliver an unparalleled combination of style, interior space, fun-to-drive performance and fuel efficiency plus leading-edge safety and vehicle connectivity. “The Honda Fit is a small car with big aspirations. Faster, more fuel-efficient and more fun, it’s a subcompact with larger-than-life-capabilities,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of automobile sales for American Honda Motor Co. Inc. “It’s simply the best Fit to date and, we believe, a new benchmark in the small-car category.” The 2015 Fit debuts with a sleek, modern and sporty exterior style. A more aggressive front fascia showcases a new grille and headlight design. A strong character line runs along the side of the Fit, emphasizing the vehicle’s aerodynamic profile. The new Fit also delivers a significant increase in passenger volume (+4.9 cu ft) and rear legroom (+4.8 in.) compared to the previous model. With the Hondaexclusive Magic Seat offering multiple configurable seating positions, the Fit provides an unrivaled 52.7 cubic feet of cargo space when the second row seats are folded flat. With an overall height of 60 inches, the Fit allows for easy loading of items into the rear cargo and ingress/egress for passengers.

INTERIOR

The 2015 Fit will deliver above-class interior refinement and features while offering value at every trim level. All 2015 Fit models will be equipped with class-leading standard features including Bluetooth connectivity, a multiangle rearview camera, and Expanded

View Driver’s Mirror. For customers looking for premium features in the subcompact segment, Fit will be available with smart entry with push-button start, heated side mirrors, a moonroof, heated front seats, Honda’s exclusive LaneWatch display and a 7-inch Display Audio touchscreen interface with HondaLink smartphone connectivity. Soft touch and premium materials are used throughout and, for the first time, the Fit will be offered with available leather-trimmed seating.

PERFORMANCE

The 2015 Fit marks the U.S. debut of an all-new direct-injected 1.5-liter DOHC i-VTEC engine. Generating 130 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 114 lb.-ft. of torque at 4600 rpm, engine output is increased by 13 horsepower and 8 lb.-ft. compared to the outgoing engine, while reducing weight and improving efficiency. Paired to two new transmissions, a slickshifting six-speed manual or a sporty and fuel-efficient Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with available

paddle shifters, the Fit powertrain offers superior acceleration and passing performance and is anticipated to have class-leading EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 33 city/41 highway/36 combined (CVT-equipped models). Complementing the new powertrain is a revised chassis that provides for improved handling, ride comfort and NVH. A more rigid body, new rear dampers and revised suspension geometry notably enhance the 2015 Fit’s ride quality and fun-to-drive handling characteristics.

2015 Hyundai Sonata

Sonata Evolves with New Design

H

yundai recently introduced its all-new seventh-generation 2015 Sonata. Following the incredible success of the outgoing Sonata, the allnew generation offers a more refined look through a new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, stiffer body structure, better ride quality, reduced noise, vibration and harshness and advanced safety and convenience features. Sonata truly democratizes the premium design and convenient technology of the Genesis sedan for the mid-size class.

DESIGN

The 2011 Sonata raised the bar for design in the mid-size sedan segment when it was introduced in 2009. Consumers noticed the groundbreaking design and so did the competition. Sonata’s design matures for the 2015 model year with energetic and crisp lines complimented by smooth and subtle surfaces. Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 is a confident evolution of the original fluidic sculpture design language that perfectly expresses Sonata’s premium look and excellent value. A larger, more refined grille with a wide air intake defines the face of the 2015 Sonata. Simple, harmonious lines adorn the exterior while hinting at the improved dynamic performance and human-machine connection Sonata provides.

INTERIOR

Confident, energetic lines define the 2015 Sonata’s exterior and are complimented inside the cabin by a premium interior with a special emphasis on ergonomics. Intuitive buttons and controls are placed on the center stack, which is angled toward the driver to make the controls easier to reach. Hyundai’s core interior design

principles are safety, intuitiveness and simplicity and Sonata delivers in spades. Controls are grouped logically and placed in the most convenient position for the driver. To create a unified experience inside the cabin, designers met with various suppliers to make sure all buttons and switchgear have a consistent feel. Sonata Sport 2.0T receives a unique

T

Four Times the Innovation

he 2015 Jeep Cherokee debuts engine stop-start (ESS) technology, an emission-lowering and fuelsaving feature on 2015 Jeep Cherokee models powered by the 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 engine. ESS technology increases fuel efficiency by shutting the engine off when the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Amenities (radio, gauges, heating or air conditioning, etc.) continue to operate, making the operation transparent to the driver. The engine restarts automatically when the driver releases the brake, allowing seamless acceleration. Stopstart is activated automatically and requires no input from the driver. A system disable switch is located on the dash if the operator wishes to suspend the feature. The 2015 Jeep Cherokee powered by the 2.4-liter MultiAir2 engine is now a Partial Zero Emission Engine (PZEV) in the 14 states that have adopted California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations. Additionally, 2015 models provide a choice of four innovative 4x4 systems.

JEEP ACTIVE DRIVE I

Available on the Cherokee Sport, Latitude and Limited models, Jeep Active Drive I features a single power transfer unit (PTU), which is fully automatic and delivers seamless operation in and out of four-wheel drive at any speed. The system does not require any driver intervention or feedback, delivers yaw correction during dynamic events and improves both understeer and oversteer conditions.

JEEP ACTIVE DRIVE II

Available on the Cherokee Latitude and Limited models, Jeep Active Drive II includes a two-speed PTU with torque management and low range. The 4-Low

mode locks the front and rear drive shafts for low-speed power or towing. Low range provides a 2.92:1 gear reduction. The gear reduction allows for enhanced climbing ability as well outstanding crawl ratios for severe off-road conditions. The 2015 Jeep Cherokee with Jeep Active Drive II gives the off-road adventurer a ride height that is increased by an inch, a crawl ratio of 56:1 when powered by the 2.4-liter MultiAir2

Tigershark I-4 engine, and 47.8:1 when powered by the new 3.2-liter Pentastar V-6 engine – up to a 90-percent improvement versus the outgoing model.

JEEP ACTIVE DRIVE LOCK

Jeep Active Drive Lock includes all the features of Jeep Active Drive II and adds a locking rear differential for superior low-speed power for severe off-road conditions. Jeep Active Drive Lock is

standard on all Trailhawk models.

JEEP CHEROKEE TRAILHAWK: TRAIL RATED

The Trailhawk includes, as standard equipment, aggressive approach and departure angles, 1-inch factory lift, Jeep Active Drive Lock with locking rear differential and skid plates. The “Trail Rated” badge indicates that the vehicle is designed to perform in a variety of challenging off-road conditions.

2015 Lincoln MKC

Lincoln Leaps Forward with MKC

T

he Lincoln Motor Company’s reinvention takes a major step forward with the unveiling of the allnew 2015 Lincoln MKC small premium utility vehicle. The Lincoln MKC is a unique creation from the ground up with an assortment of first-in-class features. Its all-new 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine offers excellent performance while its ingeniously implemented wraparound liftgate is an example of masterful customer convenience. The luxurious interior embraces driver and passengers alike, and its new and innovative technology personalizes the MKC ownership experience. Lincoln MKC follows the MKZ sedan to become the second all-new Lincoln in as many years as the brand continues its reinvention. “Lincoln MKC is a perfect blend of inspired automotive design and dynamic driving performance in a segment that has grown in popularity in recent years,” said Jim Farley, executive vice president of Ford global marketing, sales and service and Lincoln. “As a challenger luxury brand, entering this segment is a natural next step for us. MKC will do more than just compete – it will change the way people think about Lincoln.”

DESIGN

The Lincoln design team faced the dual challenge of creating a standout vehicle in a competitive field, while further refining the Lincoln design DNA that started with the 2013 MKZ. From its signature split-wing grille to its uniquely crafted, hands-free wraparound liftgate, the Lincoln DNA is evident. “Our design team worked tirelessly to create a vehicle that attracts new customers to the brand while meeting the expectations of longtime Lincoln

drivers,” said Max Wolff, director, Lincoln Design. “The execution of the new liftgate is a prime example of how a premium design element can create a better customer experience.” MKC presents a sleek, sculpted body that helps it stand out among peers. Its high beltline and low shoulders create a sturdy, athletic presence, while features such as soft exterior lighting, pedestal sideview mirrors and an available panoramic,

all-glass Vista Roof give the vehicle a luxurious, sophisticated personality.

PERFORMANCE

When equipped with the all-new 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, MKC offers 285 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 305 lb.ft. of torque at 3,000 rpm. Class-exclusive Active Grille Shutters are designed to help improve MKC fuel efficiency at highway speeds.

MKC comes standard with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder turbocharged engine, projected to produce 240 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 270 lb.ft. of torque at 3,000 rpm, according to preliminary test data. This makes Lincoln MKC an all-EcoBoost vehicle. MKC comes standard with front-wheel drive and 18-inch wheels. Drivers can upgrade to Lincoln’s Intelligent AllWheel Drive.

2015 Mazda CX-5

A Leader in Economy, Handling

W

ith its class-leading fuel economy, head-turning design and better-than-the-rest handling, the 2015 CX-5 compact SUV seems destined to be a worldwide success for Mazda, and it has been with no signs of slowing down. Not only does the CX-5 offer confident driving, versatility, all-weather capability, spaciousness and advanced features, but it does so with the best highway mpg of any SUV in America — including hybrids. “The ongoing success of the CX-5 is something we were hoping for and received in spades,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO). “From a clean-sheet-of-paper approach, CX-5 dove head first into the competitive compact SUV segment and created quite a splash. The overwhelmingly positive response from consumers and critics alike are testaments that performance and practicality can be a winning formula without compromises.”

SKYACTIV

No one wants to drive a slug, but a sports car doesn’t fit the everyday needs of most consumers, nor are such horsepower-bloated play things the most affordable of toys. But fun never had a sensible bone in its hyperactive, excitement-seeking body — until SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY. Developed solely by Mazda, the brand that invented Zoom-Zoom for all, SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY is a deeply imbedded philosophy that obtaining more power, more torque and more MPG can be had by creating overall vehicle efficiency and still be offered at a dollar-sign amount attainable by the majority of the car-buying population.

What is lost in the process of improving engineering numbers? Nothing. Safety, spaciousness, style — still all there. And better than before. Upon entering the marketplace, CX-5 was an all-new, true-to-segment entry into the compact SUV circle. Outfitted with a SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter gasoline engine for all three trim levels — Sport, Touring and Grand Touring —

the engine and its matching SKYACTIV transmissions were enough to offer consumers best-in-class combined fuel economy on all models. With 155 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 150 lb-ft of torque delivered at 4,000 rpm, enough get-up-and-go oomph delivered dynamics that any enthusiast could appreciate. The standard pushbutton start was all it took to get the

revving going. All CX-5 Sport models will be equipped with the SKYACTIV-G 2.0L engine and offer an EPA-rated fuel economy of 26 city/35 highway/29 combined MPG when mated to the SKYACTIV-MT sixspeed manual transmission, or 26 city/32 highway/29 combined MPG when optioned with the SKYACTIV-Drive sixspeed automatic transmission.

2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

T

A New Chapter for Mercedes

he all-new C-Class heralds a new chapter in the Mercedes-Benz success story and sets new standards in the premium mid- range class. Thanks to an intelligent lightweight design concept boasting weight savings of up to 200 lbs, excellent aerodynamics and new, economical engines, the C-Class establishes new benchmarks in its class. A host of new assistance systems offer safety of the highest standard, while a new suspension, optionally airsprung, provides for exemplary ride and driving comfort as well as nimble and agile handling. In terms of appearance the new C-Class adopts a progressive approach with its clear yet emotional design and its high-class interior. Many other innovations and interior touches underscore the sedan’s luxurious comfort and refined sportiness. In all, the perceived quality of the new C-Class feels like an “upgrade to a higher class of travel.” The C-Class is the top-selling model series from Mercedes-Benz. Sales of the preceding model, which was launched in 2007, total over 2.4 million worldwide. The C-Class has grown to take account of people’s increasing average height. With a 3-inch increase in the wheelbase (112 inches) compared with the previous model, the vehicle is 3.7 inches longer (184 inches) and 1.6 inches wider (71 inches). The additional space benefits first and foremost the rear passengers, who now travel in even greater comfort. The new C-Class trunk capacity is 12.8 cubic feet.

INTERIOR

The Mercedes-Benz designers have styled the interior on a level which is rarely encountered even in higher vehicle categories. This applies to the carefully chosen high-class materials and their pleasant touch and feel as well

as the precision of the finely crafted details. The interior also embodies a new design idiom which combines sensuousness and clarity perfectly with dynamic sportiness and contributes to the quality feel of the interior. The driver and front passenger enjoy plenty of space and luxury in a discreet, modern guise on board the new C-Class. This gives rise to a feel-good atmosphere

which is new to this class of vehicle – settling into your seat in the C-Class is akin to the uplifting feeling of being upgraded from economy to business class on an airplane. The new C-Class offers numerous innovative safety and assistance systems. It is fitted as standard with ATTENTION ASSIST, which can warn the driver of inattentiveness

and drowsiness. On highways, the optional COMAND system navigation function flags up nearby break options as stopovers, providing the system has been specified in the vehicle. The ATTENTION ASSIST function offers an adjustable level of sensitivity and can inform the driver in a separate view in the instrument cluster about their level of drowsiness.

Fuel economy is now rated at 22 mpg city, 32 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined. Other enhancements for 2015 include the addition of 8-way power driver’s seat and 2-way power lumbar support for 2.5 SV and 3.5 SV models, 4-way power front passenger seat for SL models, Beige interior-equipped models receive black carpeting and lower seat side trim,

2015 Subaru Legacy

Redesigned with Safety & Style

T

he Subaru Legacy has been completely re-designed for 2015 to deliver a more compelling blend of standout design, interior refinement, safety technology and higher fuel efficiency. The Legacy now features the largest interior passenger volume in the midsize sedan segment. Still the only car in its class with All-Wheel Drive as standard, the 2015 Legacy continues the brand’s safety leadership by introducing the latest version of the EyeSight system and a new available Rear Vehicle Detection System that includes Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Offering a choice of 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder BOXER engines, the 2015 Subaru Legacy comes standard with the Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission) and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. With manufacturerestimated ratings of 26 mpg city/36 mpg highway/30 mpg combined, the 2015 Legacy 2.5i matches or exceeds fuel economy of many front-wheel drive midsize sedans. The 6-cylinder Legacy 3.6R Limited also sees fuel economy improve by 10 percent, with new estimated ratings of 20 mpg city/29 mpg highway/23 mpg combined. The 2015 Legacy maintains a footprint similar to the model it replaces, yet offers increased interior room and trunk capacity. The 2015 model is the bestequipped Legacy ever, with all trim lines adding new standard amenities, and the Limited trims offering the highest level of luxury ever in this model.

DESIGN

The 2015 Legacy echoes design themes introduced by the Legacy Concept at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. The production model combines sporty

form and efficient function. Key to the sleeker, coupe-like profile is a new front fascia that combines the hexagonal grille and bumper into one smooth piece. An aluminum hood reduces weight over the front wheels, enhancing steering response.

SAFETY

The 2015 Legacy comes standard with a rear-view camera, now located closer

to the center of the car for more natural imaging. A new rollover sensor can deploy the side curtain airbags if an imminent rollover is detected. For added nighttime security, the 2015 Legacy features new standard Welcome Lighting that automatically turns on cabin illumination and exterior lights as the driver approaches or departs the car. The Limited trims offer a Keyless

Access & Start system as well as PIN Code Access. This new system allows the driver to leave the keys in the Legacy, lock it and then unlock the car using the PIN Code. The 2015 Subaru Legacy introduces a new type of airbag restraint and a new available rear radar system. The new front seat-cushion airbags help to keep occupants in place in a frontal collision.

2015 Subaru Outback

S

A Bold New Look for Outback

ubaru of America, Inc. recently introduced the all-new 2015 Outback, the fifth generation of the World’s First Sport Utility Wagon. The 2015 Outback offers the roomiest interior, most capable chassis and highest fuel-efficiency in the model’s 20year history. Its bold new design delivers an even more compelling blend of onroad agility, off-pavement control, ride comfort, interior refinement and safety technology. The 2015 Outback arrives in Subaru dealerships in summer 2014. The 175-horsepower 4-cylinder Outback 2.5i model is available in Standard, Premium and Limited trim lines, accompanied by the top-of-line 6-cylinder 3.6R Limited with 256 horsepower. All trim lines add more standard amenities, conveniences and new infotainment systems. The original Outback established a template for many competitive crossover models that followed, and the new-generation 2015 Outback further strengthens the melding of passengercar and SUV attributes that crossover shoppers seek. The 2015 Outback exemplifies Subaru’s mastery of outdoors-oriented vehicle engineering, not just for its standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and raised ground clearance, but also for numerous details that help make it more convenient to load and carry cargo as well as items such as kayaks and bikes. Newly standard X-Mode, Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist augment Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive to assist the driver in navigating rough roads, slippery surfaces or steep inclines. New for 2015, all Outback models come standard with the Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission), which features paddle-shift control switches and is instrumental in the

Outback’s significantly improved fuel economy. Manufacturer-estimated ratings of 25 mpg city/33 mpg highway/28 mpg combined are up from 24/30/26 in the 2014 model. These figures place the 2015 Outback 2.5i at the top of the midsize crossover class, bettering front-wheel drive versions of some competitive crossovers. A new Active Grille Shutter system on the 2015 Outback 2.5i helps to improve

fuel economy by reducing wind resistance when closed. Electric Power-Assisted Steering and improved aerodynamics also contribute to the increased efficiency in all models. Due largely to its new Lineartronic CVT, the 6-cylinder Outback 3.6R Limited also improves fuel economy, with manufacturerestimated ratings of 20 mpg city/27 mpg highway/22 combined vs. 17/25/20

for the previous version. The all-new 2015 Outback introduces a bolder look with crisper, sculpted lines that convey both its all-road capability and upgraded refinement. A new front fascia combines the hexagonal grille and bumper into one smooth piece. An aluminum hood reduces weight over the front wheels, which helps enhance steering response.

2015 Toyota Camry

F

The Best Just Got Better

or 12 consecutive years, and 16 of the past 17, the Toyota Camry midsize sedan has worn the crown of “best-selling car in America.” One creates such a juggernaut by never resting on its laurels and the new 2015 Camry is a prime example of this philosophy. The 2015 Camry and Camry Hybrid has been remade with a bold new exterior design, improved dynamic performance, a premium and upscale interior, and offering new and innovative safety technologies. All of this has been accomplished while retaining its excellent value through affordable pricing.

LINEUP

The 2015 Camry will be available in four models, the value-driven LE, the sporty SE, the new XSE and the premium XLE. The new XSE builds on the success of the SE with an edgier look, enthusiastic driving dynamics and luxurious amenities, making it the sportiest Camry yet. All Camry gas models will be powered by the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 178 horsepower and 170 lb.-ft. of peak torque. It’s teamed with a standard sixspeed automatic transmission with the combination offering EPA-estimated 25 mpg city/35 mpg highway/28 mpg combined fuel economy. The XSE and XLE will also offer a 3.5-liter V6 with the six-speed automatic, generating 268 horsepower.

VALUE

The two most popular Camry models, LE and SE, receive pricing that is virtually unchanged from the 2014.5 model. Both models are equipped with

the 2.5-liter four-cylinder. Each is each heavily equipped with standard convenience features and for 2015 add 8-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, shift lever boot with contrast stitching, satin chrome interior accents, passenger window auto updown, chrome front upper grille and rear trunk garnish (smoked chrome on SE), and heated outside mirrors. The SE gas model also adds a standard

4.2-inch TFT multi-information display and direct tire pressure monitor system.

SAFETY

All 2015 Camry models will come standard with best-in-class 10 airbags. Like all current Toyota vehicles, the 2015 Camry comes standard with the STAR Safety System, which includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Braking

System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. It also features the Smart Stop Technology brake-override system. The 2015 Camry also offers advanced safety features including Pre-Collision System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Auto High Beam, and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

2015.5 Volvo S60

New Power Behind Updated S60

W

hat does Volvo do for an encore with its award-winning S60 sedan following last year’s significant styling revisions? It introduces exciting new Drive-E powertrain technology with an all-new engine family and new transmission that deliver enhanced fuel economy, reduced emissions and increased driving pleasure. Two versions of the innovative Drive-E 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine make their debut for 2015 on front-wheel-drive S60 models. The new class-leading S60 T5 Drive-E features a turbocharger and direct-injection to develop 240 horsepower and 258 lbs.-ft. of torque, with mpg ratings of 25 city, 37 highway and 29 combined. The next level of performance debuts in the S60 T6 Drive-E. Employing both a turbocharger and a supercharger for the 2.0-liter engine increases output to 302 horsepower and 295 lbs.-ft. of torque, while producing mpg ratings of 24 city, 35 highway and 28 combined. An allnew standard eight-speed “Geartronic” automatic transmission contributes to the increased efficiency of this new engine family. The third component of Drive-E is new ECO+ fuel-saving technology designed to optimize shift points, engine control and throttle response. When activated by the driver, ECO+ can improve fuel economy by five percent depending on driving style, temperature and climate.

DESIGN

The front of the S60 was redesigned last year, sporting all-new exterior panels from the A-pillars forward including a new hood, front fenders and fascia. A wider grille with a larger Ironmark is flanked by new headlights while a larger, wider lower front intake

gains bright accents and horizontally mounted LED daytime running lights. At the rear, new LED light guides on the taillights and integrated exhaust pipes contribute to the more powerful road presence and self-confident stance.

TECHNOLOGY

All S60s can be equipped with hightech features via the Platinum trim level. This includes the new Harmon

Kardon Premium Sound System with 12 premium speakers and 650 watts. Customers have the flexibility to add option packages to any S60, as well as select individual items from a list of stand-alone options. The T5 Sport Package now includes larger 19-inch Bor diamond-cut alloy wheels, paddle shifters and Sport Chassis. For the T6 Drive-E, selecting the optional 19-inch “Bor” alloys also

nets the lowered Sport Chassis. Packaged features include keyless drive (standard on T6), rear park assist camera, HomeLink, digital compass, power retractable outside mirrors, pedestrian and collision detection with full auto brake, road sign information display on the instrument cluster, adaptive cruise control with queue assist, distance alert and lane departure warning.

Auto Tech | Safety & Security

Safe

Behind the Wheel By Gregg Morris, The Bulletin Special Projects

E

very year, thousands of new cars roll off the assembly line, each equipped with the latest in automobile technology and safety upgrades. Products ranging from driver monitoring systems to mounted cameras create peace of mind, but also raise the cost of purchasing a brand new car. As auto companies tout these latest inventions for new cars, many times the idea of these products gets pushed aside due to an outof-reach price tag. Luckily for those of us sticking with our older model cars, most of the new technological advances are available for after-market installation.

CAR MONITORING SYSTEMS

Car monitoring systems, such as the Audiovox Car Connection Pro, are gaining in popularity. The goal is to improve a driver’s skill level by monitoring driving habits of you or someone you love and alerting them of possible danger. The device, which is plugged into your vehicle’s OBII port, allows users to track the car’s location, create a geo-fence safety zone for your student driver, restrict cellphone usage, or simply find your car in a crowded parking lot. By monitoring driving habits, the Car Connection Pro allows users to increase fuel efficiency by providing information on driving speed or idle time. They even 42 2015 Auto Preview

alert drivers to any problems a car may be having — from needing an oil change to low tire pressure. DroneMobile takes it one step further by connecting all of the information to your smartphone. Both products require an initial purchase plus a monthly fee.

DASH CAMERAS

A camera in your car seems unnecessary, but in Europe and Russia they have become as necessary as gasoline, and they are slowly gaining ground in the U.S. Previously reserved for law enforcement but now seen in many cars, the HD Dual Dash Cam mounts to your car’s dashboard. These cameras come with DVR recording devices for playback. They help prove fault in accidents, report bad drivers or road rage, provide protection for your parked car or evidence against insurance fraud. They also record scenic or unlikely

events that may occur while driving. When the Chelyabinsk meteor crashed in Russia in 2013, videos quickly surfaced online thanks to dash cameras.

CRASH AVOIDANCE SENSORS

Another safety feature gaining traction for drivers are crash avoidance sensors and cameras. These advanced driver assistance systems were initially marketed as sensors that beep when you are too close to an object while backing up, but the technology has greatly improved. Sensors have begun to give way to full cameras with both front and rear placement. The Mobileye brand tracks other vehicles and monitors upcoming situations to alert drivers to potential dangers such as lane departures, pedestrian collisions, forward car collisions, and proper safe driving distances.

SAFER DRIVING

Some of the biggest gains in vehicle safety technology are simply improvements on older products.

While Bluetooth and other hands-free technologies have been around since 2000, advances in the technology have allowed for more users and an increase in features. Many car owners, including those unhappy with the quality of Bluetooth in their new cars, are upgrading to the better, after-market versions. Another improvement aimed at safer driving is the relocation of product screens to the rear-view mirror. By allowing the driver to easily monitor the car’s actions in a convenient location, the rear-view mirror displays take less time away from viewing the road. Lastly, remote starters, such as the Compustar 3000, allow the user to feel safe as they walk to their car in a parking lot or on a dark street late at night. With the remote starters connected to your keychain, you can turn your car’s lights on, set your alarm, or honk your horn from up to a mile away. Advances in after-market technology for cars has caught the eye of insurance companies as well. Auto insurance companies are beginning to take notice of the benefits of the new products and offer discounts to proven good drivers. The ability to purchase safety and security technology for your used car is getting easier. It allows you the opportunity to enjoy the same level of security as new vehicles, without spending more money.

AMP UP YOUR CAR WITH ONE OF THESE NEW SAFETY DEVICES... CRASH AVOIDANCE SYSTEMS 72% of car accidents are caused by driver inattention! Avoid them with Mobileye Collision Avoidance Systems. Previously available only in new vehicles, Mobileye’s award winning technology is now available for aftermarket application.

VEHICLE TRACKING What it is... Imagine being able to connect to, communicate with, and control your family’s vehicles each day to improve their performance and protect your safety. Imagine knowing how fast or aggressively your teenage son is driving. Whether your daughter is using her cell phone while driving in the vehicle, and you having the power to restrict it.

DASH CAM SENSOR Compustar Dash is a High-Definition Surveillance and Security system that records the video and audio of activity surrounding your vehicle. Once installed, Compustar Dash provides 24/7/365 surveillance, motion detection around your vehicle, theft-deterrence, and an invaluable asset in the event of a car accident.

Avoid the Holiday Breakdown

E

very year, as tens of millions of travelers take the road for their holiday trips and vacations, at least one million people will be stranded. But many of them would be able to avoid these problems if they started planning in the fall.

That figure is an estimation by the American Automobile Association, which is ready to deploy its assistance specialists to help with lockouts, battery replacements, jump starts, extricating vehicles from snow and towing cars for repair. The AAA anticipates its busiest time of year to be between Dec. 19 and Jan.

2. And while being stranded on roadway is probably not on your wish list, it is an issue you or someone you know may have to face this holiday season.

BE PREPARED

Drivers can avoid some roadside breakdowns by keeping their vehicles properly maintained. The AAA advises motorists to follow their recommended maintenance schedule and make sure their vehicle is ready for the holiday travel season. Have a certified technician check your vehicle’s fluid levels, lights, brakes, exhaust system and heater/defroster. You should continue to schedule regular services, including oil and filter changes, throughout the winter driving season at the intervals recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.

COMMON ISSUES

Every year during the holiday season, this is how AAA service calls are broken down: • Nearly 300,000 requests for help with a dead battery. • More than 80,000 failed batteries repaired on the spot. • Nearly 200,000 sets of keys retrieved from inside locked vehicles. • More than 166,000 tire changes. • About 21,000 vehicle extrications.

Have a certified technician check your vehicle’s fluid levels, lights, brakes, exhaust system and heater/ defroster. 44 2015 Auto Preview

HANDLING BEING STRANDED

The AAA projects its roadside technicians can fix the issues of more than three out of five stranded motorists and send them on their way. The remaining two travelers will still need a tow. Keeping you and your family safe while you’re stranded is important. This means pulling your car fully onto the shoulder of the road and keeping your hazard lights flashing. You could also benefit from having an emergency kit full of blankets, batteries, water, flashlights and other essential items to keep you safe and warm during long delays.

e’ve all heard about the importance of winterizing your car. But when should you do so — and how? October is National Fall Car Care Month and offers the perfect opportunity for you to make sure your vehicle is ready to handle the snow, sleet and freezing temperatures to come. The following should be included in any “winterizing” package offered by your local repair shop, but you can also handle many of them yourself. Make a checklist to ensure you are covering all of your bases. Battery: It is important to test your battery and charging system. A fully charged battery in good condition means

you won’t be stuck with an engine that won’t start in cold weather. Drive belts: Inspect the underside of your drive belts for signs of wear. The American Automobile Association recommends replacing your belts every 60,000 miles. Engine hoses: Check your cooling system hoses for leaks or loose clamps. You can also feel and squeeze the hoses for brittleness or sponginess. Tire pressure: Test your tire inflation pressure more frequently in fall and winter because falling temperatures mean falling tire pressures. Air filter: The AAA recommends you check your car’s engine air filter by

holding it up to a 60-watt light bulb. If light can be seen through much of the filter, it is still clean enough to work effectively. If the light is blocked, it is time to replace it. Lights: Properly working lights are crucial during the fall and winter months, when evening sets in a little quicker. Check the operation of all headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals, emergency flashers and back-up lights. Replace any burned-out bulbs by following the procedures stated in the

TS&S FORD in Madras

owner’s manual. Wiper blades: Replace any blade that leaves streaks or misses spots. Winter wiper blades come wrapped with a rubber boot to reduce ice and snow buildup. Consider installing these if you live in areas with heavy snow during the winter. Brakes: Have your brakes checked and changed at the first indication of a problem, usually identified by a squeaking or grinding noise.

Auto Care | Mechanics

The

M

echanics use all sorts of specialized tools to repair your car, but the most powerful diagnostic device for detecting vehicle issues may be on your face. That’s right. Your nose can hold the key to identifying specific odors that you should never ignore. Paying attention to these indicators can help you remain aware of your car’s engine health and reduce your chances of breaking down. They key is acting fast and getting your car into the mechanic as quickly as possible.

THE SIX SMELLS

The Car Care Council identifies the following six smelly signs and what they could mean for your car. For a more detailed list, visit CarCare.org.

Smell Test

Burned Rubber: This could mean slipping drive belts or misplaced loose hoses. These loose parts could be rubbing against pulleys, causing a burnt rubber scent. Hot Oil: Oil that is leaking onto the exhaust system can emit a very noticeable smell. To verify the leak, look for oil on the pavement or smoke coming from the engine area. Gasoline: This could mean a gas leak in some area

of the vehicle such as a fuel injector line or the fuel tank. Any smell of fuel is no laughing matter. Gasoline is obviously considered a possible fire hazard, requiring your full attention and care. Sweet Syrup: This sweet scent is a telltale sign that you have engine coolant leaking from a component related your car’s cooling system. Burning Carpet: This unique smell can mostly be linked to brake trouble. Have your brakes checked right away, especially if this smell is happening during normal driving conditions. Rotten Eggs: You may be facing an issue with catalytic converter not converting the hydrogen sulfide in the exhaust to sulfur dioxide properly. This smell can also be associated with a poor-running engine.

Auto Care | Be Green

A

A Greener, Cleaner Car

s science and research continue to advance, we find out more and more ways we can be lightening the load on our environment. How we drive and care for our vehicles is no exception. Safer products are on the market for cleaning. There are maintenance tips that every driver should follow to cut down on harmful emissions. The information is out there. It is up to us to put it into practice.

AIR FILTERS

A dirty air filter has a direct impact on your car’s performance and efficiency. The dirtier the filter, the more gas burned during driving. Your air filter can become clogged with dirt, dust and bugs and should be regularly inspected. Changing it will not only improve your engine’s functioning,

but will cut down on the amount of gas that is being emitted into the atmosphere.

TIRE CHECKS

According to the Car Care Council, about two billion gallons of gas each year could be saved if the tires on every American’s car were properly inflated. Improperly inflated tires add resistance and balance issues that make your car’s system to work harder to move down the highway. The council states that tire issues can increase fuel costs as much as three to five cents per gallon. Check your owner’s manual for your car’s optimal tire pressure.

GAS FILL-UPS

You may think that you’re

doing your car a service by topping off the tank while filling up. But doing so can actually cost you in the long run. Some pumps engineered to protect the environment draw extra vapors back into the pump, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. This means you could be paying for even more gas than

you are getting. Remember to stop pumping when the nozzle shuts off and check your car’s gas cap. A loose or damaged cap can lead to evaporated gas that can harm the environment and waste your money.

PROPER DISPOSAL

If you change your own oil and perform your own car repairs, it is vital that you dispose of all engine fluids and batteries in the proper manner. Some repair facilities accept these items from customers and can dispose of them free of charge. You can also contact your local government’s safety office for information on hazardous material dropoff and recycling stations. Doing so can help keep harmful fluids from damaging animals and the environment.
