DESCHUTES RECYCLING Sustain Your Soil

Compost is crucial to any gardening or landscaping endeavor. Central Oregon soils are naturally poor in quality and lack organic matter, which can be the source of many plant problems. Soils amended with SoilBuilder ® BioFine® and ReGrow® compost will provide the benefits of water retention and nutrients, requiring less watering and fertilizing. Plants and blooms will grow larger and faster and be more resistant to disease. Deschutes Recycling, located at Knott Landfill in Bend, stands behind the quality of its SoilBuilder ®, BioFine® and ReGrow® compost products with a rigorous quality assurance and testing program. Samples of our compost are sent to a soil test lab in Washington for independent testing under the US Composting Council’s Seal of Testing Approval program, which sets national standards in the composting industry. The difference between our compost products: SoilBuilder® compost is screened to 5/8” minus which is perfect for amending soil before planting or sodding, tilling into garden spots, building up mounds for planting and for use as a decorative alternative to bark in all gardening areas. BioFine® is our premium compost screened to 3/8” minus which is specifically designed for topdressing existing turf and where a finer blend is needed. For lawns, we recommend a spring and fall application each year. BioFine® can also be used as a seed starter. ReGrow® is our newest compost screened to 3/8” minus. ReGrow® is comparable in texture and appearance to BioFine but contains 50% food based compost which enhances nutrients, especially nitrogen. This is our newest product and will be great for your garden, lawn and potted plants.

Deschutes Recycling compost recycles local yard trimmings. We use the latest methods to ensure high quality, affordable compost. We have a knowledgeable staff to help you choose the right product for your needs. Main Uses for Compost Soil Amendment: Start your garden, planting beds, and new lawn with compost. In sandy soils, mix or till two to three inches of compost into the top 6-8 inches of soil each year before planting. Mulch: Compost is superior to barkdust or wood chips to hold in moisture and protect roots during the winter. Compost adds nutrients to the soil, while bark and chips can rob the soil of nitrogen. Compost has also been proven to be fire resistant, while bark and chips are not. Spread between 2 - 3 inches around plants and trees, being careful to keep compost away from the trunk of trees. Lawn Top Dressing: After plug aerating, sprinkle 1/8” to ¼” BioFine compost evenly over the top of your lawn in the spring and fall. This adds nutrients; helps fight lawn diseases, and may help reduce thatching and aeration problems. It will also increase the water holding capacity of your soil. You can cut fertilizer use in half whenever you topdress with compost. Deschutes Recycling has rental compost spreaders specifically designed for topdressing your lawn. Using a spreader is the best way to ensure you get your compost applied evenly throughout your lawn area. Potting Soil: Add one-part compost to one-to-two parts soil. CC&Rs are recorded governing documents with provisions that are non-negotiable. Legally amending documents to change content is a possibility but can be costly and time-consuming because it requires a supportive vote of the membership. Rules and regulations are adopted by the board of directors and may be modified after the membership has been provided a 30-day period to comment. Architectural guidelines are created at community inception by the builder, and may also be modified by a vote of future boards after

the membership has been provided a 30-day period to comment. Professional managers work at the direction of the board to provide CC&R enforcement. Methods for gaining compliance are detailed in a violation policy based on the documents above. Eco-friendly Practices With a little thought and creativity, homeowners’ associations can become more budget-efficient as they focus on instating eco-friendly practices. Website and e-mail are used as tools to communicate information about meetings and recreational activities, access electronic documents including association minutes, agendas and operating rules, and receive online payments. This saves a ton of paper.

Juniper Lamp CO Juniper Lamp CO was established in March 2012. We manufacture juniper lamps & custom lampshades. We sell retail by appointment or wholesale to designers, builders & stores. This year’s Home & Garden Show will be our first offering to the public. We have a selection of sixty plus lamps in inventory and will do custom orders. Our lamps range from floor lamps to table lamps. Retail prices range from $75.00 to $2000.00. Our lampshades are made of all types of leather such as rawhide goat, soft tanned deer skin, cowhide, lambskin, pigskin suede, elk skin and a variety of fabulous fabrics. Retail prices range from $50.00 to $300.00. All lamps are designed by my son, Darren Lambert. Darren is an accomplished airbrush artist that has a great eye for design. His first lamp was a floor lamp made for me as a gift. I still have it in my living room and it makes a statement. Darren gives the lamps an unconventional eye which makes the lamps stand out from other lamps. I decided he needed to share his artistic creations with everyone and that is how Juniper Lamp CO came to be. Because his lamps were so beautiful, I decided that I needed to use my artistic side and create just the right lampshade to compliment his work. All of our wood is pressure washed, hand sanded and finished. Darren pays special attention to every detail making sure not to remove any unique characteristics such as bug “tracks”, scars or burls. Also, all of his bases are handmade and not run through

a planer or factory bought. All lamps are made with UL approved brass parts, solid brass sockets, 3-way or single switch, solid brass switches and harps. Darren’s lamps go well in any rustic, western, craftsman or even a modern designed home with the appropriate lamp shade. All lamp shades are created by me. The rawhide goat is outstanding because I use the natural goat skin and it has a wonderful natural design to the hide and the light illuminates through the hide. These skins can be dyed to match any color scheme. Lampshades range in decors from rustic to modern to suit your home decorating style. I have many available sizes, and frame designs and material selection is unlimited. I do custom orders for any lamp and there is a maximum 6 weeks delivery. Induction does need the cookware to be magnetic to work so when you are shopping for cookware, bring a magnet. There are a few models that are a hybrid of regular electric and induction; if you have a set of copper cookware that you can’t part with this may be for you. A flat bottom surface is also critical for proper usage. The other consideration is the power needs of the cooktop or range. Despite it being very energy efficient, it does require more power than a standard electric cooktop to run the magnetic hobs.
