volunteer and fundraising efforts, supported by our PTA, we are able to supplement our curriculum with visiting authors, the Art Masters program, assemblies, and other extension activities.

We love Central Oregon. We cherish its heritage. We appreciate its beauty and its ability to uncover and nurture the adventurer in all of us. Dozens of visitor’s guides already shout such virtues from the peaks of the Cascades to the dry canyons of the Badlands. And yet many a guide boasting such points gloss over the one question all visitors want answered: what’s there to do in Central Oregon?

The Bulletin’s newest publication, “109 Ways to Discover Central Oregon,” will serve as their answer. With more than 100 ideas for family fun, leisure, explorations and outdoor adventures, “109 Ways to Discover Central Oregon” will not just tell readers about what this region has to offer; it will show them how to fully experience Central Oregon, ensuring their visit to the area is as unique as it is unforgettable.

ADVOCACY AND POSITIVE PROGRAMS • Promoting collaboration between families and schools • Specializing in special programs and adaptations for private and public preschools • Translating programming from therapy to the school • Developing programs that meet the needs of children and families and which can be realistically delivered in a school setting • Helping parents navigate the system and process This is my passion and what I do best. All too frequently, for whatever reason, parents and school districts find themselves in adversarial roles. The programs designed in therapy-based birth to three programs, and/or private therapy, often do not translate well to the school setting. This is not to say that the desired skills cannot be successfully addressed in a public school classroom. My strength over the years lies in my ability to look at an individual student’s challenges and the skill set they represent, look at the environment where these skills need to be practiced and then blending the two together. There are many factors which come into play. There are issues around limited school resources. Some issues are less clearly defined such as differing building cultures and philosophies regarding inclusion. Most importantly, programs must promote a sense of acceptance, well being and success on the part of the student.

Foster Grandparents: Serving Bend – La Pine School Students. Making A Difference. The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) in Central Oregon has two purposes: first to provide one-on-one tutoring and mentoring to school age children identified as being at-risk for failing in academics or citizenship; the second is to provide volunteer employment for low income persons 55 years of age and older who have the desire and aptitude to help young students succeed in school studies and life skills. Central Oregon Council On Aging sees the Foster Grandparent Program as an integral part of its intergenerational strategy that assists children in learning from and truly appreciating what elders provide to their growth and development. ABOUT:

Redmond Proficiency Academy (RPA) is a public charter school with a creative learning environment preparing students to succeed in the global community through innovative programs, relationship-building, and community partnerships. RPA serves sixth through 12th grade students who desire a more interest-based or self-designed course of study, or who desire a flexible schedule to meet their personal needs. This innovative educational program is unlike any other charter school nationwide, and was created by a team of advocates consisting of parents, community stakeholders, students, teachers and administrators working in partnership with the Redmond School District.

immerses students in issues that are relevant to them and to our community. This approach to teaching and learning encourages students to develop strong academic skills and to use those new skills to solve real problems in our community. Investigations often lead students and staff out of the classroom to complete field studies connected to classroom work. This focus on academics and real world learning is complimented by our attention to character growth. REALMS is a public charter school (no tuition), and all students in the Bend-La Pine School District are eligible to apply. Registration is ongoing.
