Mankind’s longtime wonder with flight has the power to suspend every day thought through the seemingly magical defiance of gravity and empowering freedom with flying. The Snowbirds are honoured to be a part of this inspiring tradition of aerial excellence as proud ambassadors of the Canadian Forces and Canada, bringing their awe inspiring and captivating show to communities across North America. The 85 member Squadron, which is based in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, symbolizes spirited national pride, extraordinary teamwork, and a steadfast commitment to a common mission – to represent the best of the Canadian Forces and Canada. Humbled by the recognition as a beloved national icon, the 24 member Snowbirds Show Team travels from coast-to-coast performing in airshows, participating in community events and, most importantly, telling the Canadian Forces story through their heartstopping aerobatic flying and engaging interaction with the public.

During the Snowbirds’ 40-year history, the team has performed their graceful show before more than 125 million spectators, representing the importance of dreams through its team member’s steadfast perseverance, wholehearted dedication and disciplined approach to flight. Traveling across North America in 11 CT114 Tutor jets and a mobile support vehicle, the Snowbirds share their passion for flight and pride in the Canadian Forces in their 35 minute show, which includes 9 jets flying in formations as close as 4 feet of wing overlap. The Canadian Forces Snowbirds is comprised of experienced and highlymotivated team members from the Army, Navy and Air Force, both Regular and Reserve Forces. With graceful rolls and loops, thrilling crosses with closing speeds of 1,000 km/hr, and magnificent burst formations, the Snowbirds demonstrate how ordinary Canadians can achieve the extraordinary through unparalleled teamwork. The Snowbirds are honoured to fly Canada’s colours across North America and to represent the heroes of the Canadian Forces, who are making a difference at home and around the world. Roy and Ken are honoured to be returning to Dawson Creek and to announce this incredible airshow!

As a long time airshow announcer Roy Hafeli provides the voice of Airshows right across Canada. While still in elementary school, Roy was an avid reader of aviation books and built countless model airplanes, some of which survive to this day. Roy made his first solo flight when he was just 16 and a year later he earned his private pilots licence. Soon after, Roy received his floatplane endorsement and then moved on to aerobatic training in a classic AT-6 Harvard. During his time in the aviation industry Roy has worked with a floatplane company and as an aircraft painter for Conair Aviation at the Abbotsford Airport. In 1987, Roy announced his first airshow in Merritt, BC and since then he has been at the microphone for airshows throughout Canada. Roy also serves on the board of the North West Council of Airshows and is a recipient of the NWCAS Showmanship Award and the Eric Beard Spirit of Flight Award and is a member of the International Council of Airshows. Roy also serves his community of Mission as a member of Mission Search and Rescue, a member of Mis-

sion Amateur Radio Emergency Service Society and is a 23-year veteran of the RCMP Auxiliary. Recently, Roy has teamed up with fellow Abbotsford Airshow announcer Ken Hildebrandt. Together they formed Hafeli and Hildebrandt Airshow Announcers. Check their website at H2A2.ca and on Facebook. Ken Hildebrandt started his announcing career just four short years ago under the expert guidance of veteran airshow announcers, Roy Hafeli and Bob Singleton. Ken grew up around the Abbotsford International Airshow, and as a young boy, thrilled to the incredible displays flown by amazing pilots in their flying machines. He thought those guys behind the microphones had a pretty cool job too and dreamed of one day being an announcer himself. A theatre producer, director and actor by profession, Ken is the Executive Artistic Director of Gallery 7 Theatre & Performing Arts Society located in Abbotsford, B.C. Ken has announced at airshows throughout B.C., Alberta, and Washington State, including Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, Peace River, Airdrie, Pitt Meadows, Abbotsford and Tacoma. He holds a private pilot’s license with a night endorsement, is a member of the Abbotsford Flying Club, International Council of Airshows (ICAS) and Northwest Council of Air Shows (NWCAS) and resides in his hometown of Abbotsford. Ken’s love for airplanes & airshows, coupled with his experience as a private pilot, actor, director & producer, make him an ideal member of any airshow announcing team. Using the phrase “Entertain - Inform – Inspire” as his motto, Ken aims to put airshow fans right in to the cockpit with his knowledgeable and colourful commentary. Enjoy the show!

Ken Fowler & Eric Hansen

Ken grew up in British Columbia and started his aviation career by first earning his glider license in 1977. In 1978 he joined the Canadian Military as an airframe technician and worked on T-33’s, CF-101 Voodoos, and CF18’s before becoming a flight engineer in 1988. Ken has built 5 of his own aircraft, and is now building one of his own designs. To date he has over 5000 hours of flying experience as a commercial pilot and flight engineer. Ken retired from the military on May 15/98 with 20 years of service, and is now the Airport Manager at Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. During his last five years with the military he toured the air show circuit with the Skyhawk Parachute Team as one of the crew members of the Buffalo aircraft. Eric comes from a flying family, having been introduced to aviation at an early age by his father, a commercial helicopter pilot. Eric remembers flying, at the controls, long before he was tall enough to reach the rudder pedals (he had a little help in the turns from his father). A pilot for 20 + years, Eric has over 3200 hours in a variety of aircraft, over 35 different types at last count. When he’s not flying, Eric resides in Cold Lake, Alberta where he is a full time dentist as well as a CFI and aerobatic flight instructor.

Jerzy was born in Poland where he started flying as a teenager at a local flying club. He moved to Canada in the mid-eighties, obtained his commercial pilot license and became a bush pilot. He holds an Airline Transport Pilot License and has over 11,500 hours of flying experience. He is also an Aerobatic Instructor and member of the International Council of Airshows with Unrestricted (Surface Level) aerobatic waver for Sukhoi, Extra, and Yak 55 aircraft, including solo and formation aerobatics and inverted ribbon cut. He competes in aerobatics at Advanced and Unlimited Level, and is a member of the Canadian National Aerobatic Team. During his flight, he experiences loads of +10 and -7 Gs and reaches speeds from 0 to 280 mph. SUKHOI SU-26 is one of the most accomplished aerobatic airplanes ever. It was created by Sukhoi Design Biuro, famous for its jet fighters. It was built with no consideration for cost, with the sole purpose of bringing the Russian Aerobatic Team back to its former glory. The export version Su-26MX entered production in February 1990. Constructed from such exotic materials as titanium, carbon fibre, Kevlar, magnesium and stainless steel, it is light and extremely strong. Even today, after 20 years since its introduction, Sukhoi is still one of the most competitive aircraft at World Aerobatic Championship level. No other type won more medals and trophies in the history of aerobatic flight.

Bill Shepherd & The Yak 11

CF-18 Hornet - Captain Bews Captain Brian Bews began his flying career in 1995 in Okotoks, Alberta. After receiving his private pilot’s license, he went to Mount Royal College in Calgary and graduated with a Diploma in Aviation with a commercial pilot’s license and multi-engine instrument rating. He enrolled in the Canadian Forces in 1999. Captain Bews attended the NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) program in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and received his wings on the BAE Hawk jet in 2003. He was selected to be a fighter pilot and went to 419 Tactical Fighter (Training) Squadron in Cold Lake, Alberta to conduct Fighter Lead In Training on the CT-155 Hawk. In 2004, Captain Bews finally realized his dream to fly the CF-18 Hornet while at 410 Tactical Fighter (Operational Training) Squadron in Cold Lake, Alberta where he remained for his first operational tour on the CF-18 Hornet with 416 Tactical Fighter Squadron, followed by a tour with 409 Tactical Fighter Squadron. In 2008, Captain Bews was posted to 425 Tactical Fighter Squadron based in Bagotville, Quebec. He has accumulated over 1,400 hours in the military, of which 1,200 of those are in the CF-18 Hornet.

Donna Flynn - Air Boss

Bill Shepherd soloed at age 16 and has been involved in aviation ever since. He has flown well over 100 types of aircraft and accumulated over 30,000 hours of flight time in aircraft from Bi-Planes to Warbirds and Wide Body Jets. Retired from the airlines he now spends most of his time flying and maintaining his Yak 11 Warbird and 1946 Globe Swift. He holds a “Level 1” (Surface) aerobatic card. He lives on Diamond Point Airpark near Sequim, Washington. The Yak 11 is a two-seat version of the Russian Yak 3 World War II fighter. This particular aircraft was in service with the Egyptian Air Force. It is now equipped with a U.S. made Pratt & Whitney 14 cylinder engine of 1,350 horsepower and is capable of speeds of up to 400 MPH.

Donna Flynn started in aviation when she obtained her private license in the winter of 1987. She soon followed that with a commercial license in 1989. While working through her licenses she caught the air show bug by volunteering at the Vanderhoof International Airshow. Working on the flight operations side of the show she was involved in other interesting projects such as Joann Osterud’s inverted flight records. Along with a partner in 1992, she started a float based business in Fort St. James, British Columbia. This kept her busy in central and northern B. C., until 1998 when she started an airshow based business and in 2000 she made the move to Vancouver, B.C. Along with another partner she started Showline Airshow Services Ltd. which specializes in the air bossing and flight operations of an air event. Soon after she took over the business completely and during a show season she will work anywhere from 10 to 12 airshow events. Donna has completed over 280 show and media days at over 35 sites in Canada and the United States.

Manfred Radius

& his Sailplane

The main act ‘The Ultimate’ is considered to be one of the top acts in the airshow industry. This sailplane act is elegant, graceful and spectacular. This quiet act, accompanied by beautiful classical music, is in stark contrast to the noisy performances of the power planes. The spectators delight in the change of pace and variety this sailplane performance offers. While most of this act is graceful and elegant, it has a spectacular ending: the grand finale is the amazing inverted ribbon cut. With ‘The Ultimate’, Manfred demonstrates the capabilities of his fully aerobatic sailplane to the fullest. This unique act contains samples of all aerobatic maneuver families as well as maneuvers performed only by Manfred with a glider at air shows. Included in this outstanding act are: outside loops - snap rolls - tail slides - a rolling turn - a vertical 8 - an inverted spin and others. The grand finale is the spectacular inverted ribbon cut. Narration from the cockpit, wing-tip smoke and beautiful classical music enhance the effect of this exceptional act.

& April Zalesky

The AV8FX team is led by April Zalesky, along with a core staff of special effects experts. April Zalesky, a native of Vancouver, BC, is the heart and soul of AV8FX. Born into a flying family, April, a licenced pilot as well as an Airshow Pyrotechnics Co-ordinator, has been involved in the airshow business from an early age. She was drawn into the excitement of airshow pyro and fireworks over 20 years ago and has produced pyrotechnic displays for both large and small shows across Canada and the United States. Among the staff are special effects co-ordinators for the film industry who have worked on major motion pictures and television shows such as Jumanji, Viper, Red Scorpion, and others. April and her crew have worked together in the airshow pyro business for many years and have an exceptional safety record. Pyro will add a new dimension of excitement to the show as your highlight acts are made even that much more spectacular with effects that let the crowd “feel the heat”. Military demonstrations become even more realistic and pyro is a proven crowd pleaser for any act where it comes as a “surprise”.
