The introduction of the ECB’s Improvement Planning Process (IPP) which provides an assessment framework for county cricket boards’ Operational Management Groups and their action planning, has led to a number of operational, structural and process changes. Staffordshire Cricket has met and will continue to meet the challenges of developing a dynamic game through its core roles and responsibilities:-
At the end of November 2007 Matt was appointed as the new Staffordshire Badminton Development Officer replacing Rachel Bayley who is now the West Midlands Regional Manager. Since his appointment he has continued Rachel’s work and will develop this further in the next 12 months. Another change at BADMINTON England in the past year has seen George Wood appointed as head of development and along with this has come a new development work programme for 2008/2009.

Stafford Festival Shakespeare

HAMLET By William Shakespeare
Brought to you by the same critically acclaimed team that produced A Midsummer Night’s Dream and last year’s Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet as one of the Bard’s most popular tragedies, is the perfect play to commemorate Stafford Festival Shakespeare’s eighteenth anniversary year. On a dark eerie night a ghost resembling the recently deceased King of Denmark walks the ramparts of Elsinore Castle. The voice from the grave tells Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, that Claudius the former King’s brother murdered him. Hamlet vows revenge on Claudius, who has not only succeeded the King’s throne but has also married his mother, Gertrude. The haunting surroundings of Stafford Castle makes the perfect backdrop for Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy charting the young man’s brush with madness and vengeful obsession. Soak up the electrifying atmosphere and begin your evening with a pre-show drink from the refreshment marquee or a delicious snack with family and friends. The seating grandstand is fully covered to shield audiences from the elements and warm clothing and blankets are advised to avoid any distractions from the unique Open Air experience.

thursday friday saturday By William Shakespeare
Welcome
Where better to experience the magic of one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays than underneath the stars against the dramatic background of Stafford Castle. Set in post World War I Italy, as the forces return, a lively showdown unfolds between the sexes. Beatrice, independent and forthright, and Benedick, a self-confessed ‘womanhater’, pass the time constantly goading and scorning each other. When they are thrown together to defend a friend’s honour, their true feelings begin to emerge.
I have had a most rare vision. I have had a dream past the wit of man to say what dream it was Act V Scene II
As the dusk deepens and the stars begin to shine we welcome you to the magical evening that awaits, on this, the sixteenth Stafford Festival Shakespeare Production. 2006 has represented a very exciting year for Stafford Festival Shakespeare and the Production Team at the Gatehouse Theatre. Not only has the Shakespeare event secured the dynamic talents of new Director Bill Buckhurst and the return of Production Designer, John Brooking for the fourth consecutive year, but Stafford Borough Council have also cemented their support of the event for future years through the purchase of a brand new seating system. Of course this year also marks the 800th anniversary of Stafford being granted its Borough Status by King John in 1206. To mark the celebration of Stafford’s independence the Production Team decided to leave the choice of play to you, its loyal audiences, and analysis of previous customer surveys concluded that the most requested play was, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The prestige and outstanding reputation Stafford Festival Shakespeare has developed throughout the region and within the industry is reflected in the experienced and talented company of actors on board for this year’s production of the Bard’s most popular comedy. This stature is of course only achievable through tireless commitment and hard work from the actors and all those behind the scenes, from the Wardrobe and Technical Departments to the Marketing, Administration, Box Office, Catering and Front of House Teams. Special thanks goes to our partners at the New Vic Theatre in Newcastle Under Lyme and Culturegen, the Creative Industries Development Team, for their support with the popular education and outreach projects that allow the Bard’s fantastic plays to be shared and enjoyed by all. Of course our continuous gratitude is also expressed to Stafford Borough Council and our generous business sponsors and supporters, for without them the Open Air Event would not be possible. All that is left to say now is to sit back and revel in the enchanting atmosphere of the Fairy Woodland high up on the hillside against the unique and dramatic backdrop of Stafford Castle. We hope you enjoy the performance! Adam Hill [Head of Leisure]
