This studio project focuses on the ecological restoration of the Meadowbrook Playfield, where I integrated an ecological relationship. Exploring the simple yet complex predator and prey relationship of the Belted Kingfisher. I realized how the diet of the Kingfisher is significantly influenced by the habitat conditions which is interrelated to the seasonal change.

Lake Bed Habitat

An existing urban culvert runs through the play field, where there is a high rate of storm water flow. As a result the storm water run off damages potential habitats for fish species. This restoration of the watershed aims to imitate the natural meanders of a river which encourages deposition and erosion. This natural process will help restore the riparian habitat. This design aims to bring awareness to the public through volunteering, especially the student communities through aquaculture. The neighboring elementary to college students can help raise the salmon in various stages of its life cycle.

Community Involvement

This is a design build project which is located South of Ballard, right beside the Lake Washington Ship Canal. The design aims to highlight the cultural and industrial influences of Ballard, such as the Nordic influence and the early settlement of the Salish tribe. Another vital concept of the design was to bring back the Purple Martins onto the site by building artificial gourds as bird houses and providing insectary plants for their food source.

Redefining Identities of Abandoned Places

This studio project is located right adjacent to the rail tracks of King Street Station, Pioneer Square. This space acts as a node for the transfer of people and resources; it is also the node for art galleries and museums. I want to create an open sculptural space that reflects the artistic background of Pioneer Square while integrating with the migration of people in transit.

Side Projects Architects Without Borders

Secondary School Campus Design, Cabaret, Haiti

I volunteered at Architects Without Borders at Haiti project team working on a conceptual design of a school campus in Cabaret, Haiti. As the landscape architect of the team I provided a planting plan of the site. The site conditions are significantly dry and faced major soil erosion due to the lack of vegetation, I researched for plants that are drought tolerant and stabilizes the soil. I also worked on developing the character and materials of the landscape. Graphics produced with Sketchup, & Photoshop

Development Bureau Internship

In the summer of 2014 I worked in the Development Bureau at the Hong Kong Central Government Complex. I was part of the Greening and Landscape team and I was given a variety of tasks. Through this experience I was able to learn a range of methods in implementing sustainable practices that can vegetate a dense city like Hong Kong.

There were two training sessions that introduced a design challenge for individual structures such as a pergola and a sitting area. The upper design is a pergola/playground for kids, which highlights the “greening concept of reconsidering non renewable energy. Next is a design that aims to create an urban sitting area, which repurposes a popular staircase next to a street of bars into benches.

HK 2050 Front Cover Design

I was commissioned by an Urban Designer in designing a front cover design for the HK 2050 project, which projects his vision of land development in the Northern Lantau Island. His design proposes “plug-in cities that acts as office spaces for the establishment of companies and housing units in response to the future housing demands. In addition he supports the idea of developing a second airport instead of expanding the current Chek Lap Kok airport. Media: Acrylic Paint

UW Farm Volunteer

During one quarter I took an urban farming class that taught sustainable practices in an urban environment.Through this experience I can envision self sustaining communities in the growing gentrification of cities within Washington.
