Fresh Cut Coalescence brings an elegance and refinement to the artisan village, providing a poetic gesture to the craft of flowers. This is achieved in the architectural statements created to house the work and home of Pam; providing a dialogue between raw and refined forms. The rough board formed concrete wall is split with a small opening where a beautifully perfected flower emerges. The single elegant and fragile flower separates itself from the hard surfaces surrounding it.

The programmatic volumes are separated by a twelve inch light canyon that allows the natural light to enter the space evenly. The display case where the flowers are stored and the arrangements are set on display, is illuminated by a light canyon which allows the flowers to be seen in its most natural light. The design celebrates the craft of floral art using an abstract layering of the exotic orchid to address the street faรงade while also allowing muted natural light into the main living space. The living spaces have been separated from the work studio, allowing Pam to retire to her own private home.

The design aspirations of ASU have changed significantly since the construction of the Farmer Education building in the 1960s. The University is currently striving to connect the campus internally while also extending its services to not only the student community but also to the city community. The central courtyard will be preceded by a grand plaza in the NE corner, by removing the existing programming and opening the ground level towards the new plaza the architecture will provide students with a cafe and campus store while also providing a plaza for respite and relaxation.

INCLUSIVE COURTYARD The interior courtyard functions as an extention of the classrooms, acting as a living textbook. The Farmer Education building allows students to observe the learning environment of the children. The courtyard provides several additional learning spaces, including additional seating for the cafe to flow into. The interior courtyard is flooded with diffused natural light and plants that can exisit in the microclimate.
LEARNING STUDIO The classrooms have been re-programmed to provide innovative learning spaces, replacing the traditional classroom with a learning studio. Allowing each professor to customize the room according to their own instruction style. The classrooms have large windows open to the North, with a projector screen and curtain that can be lowed to allow for presentations. The classroom also utilizes extended spaces outside the classroom for small group learning.
