WELCOME West Australian Opera looks forward to sharing with you a year of performances, workshops and magical operatic experiences for students, educators, adults and community groups. From the excitement of stepping onto the red carpet at one of our performances housed within His Majesty’s Theatre, conducting a performance workshop in your school or singing classes in our studio we have a variety of outreach programs and performances that offer a participatory or audience perspective inside and out of the traditional theatre setting. Our school based programs offer teachers and students an opportunity to enrich their learning experiences and offer curriculum links including but not limited to Responding, Making, Introduction of musical concepts, Historical context, Literacy, Creative and critical thinking, Intercultural understanding and Personal and social capabilities. Our community programs invite you into the heart of the company and welcome you to share our stories, learn and sing with us. WE VISIT YOU! ACT-BELONG-COMMIT OUR OPERA OUR WA Two singers and a pianist will share their stories in an intimate musical journey of their life. Why did they begin singing? Who are their heroes? What led them to opera? Featuring popular opera repertoire and lots of surprises we invite you to discover our stories and share yours. ACT-BELONG-COMMIT SING OUT LOUD! Your voice is your own mobile instrument so let’s have some fun and Sing out loud! Suitable for choirs and non-singers alike and with direct links to the West Australian Music Curriculum together we will explore rhythm, tempo, pitch, dynamics and form before joining our artists in a final aria. WORKSHOPS ACT-BELONG-COMMIT WACE WORKSHOP Supported by UWA Conservatorium of Music Year 11 and 12 music students are invited to join us for a practical workshop that aims to provide students with realworld demonstrations, discussion and suggestions for the performance of these tasks and assessments in relation to their ATAR examinations. Featuring artists of West Australian Opera, UWA Conservatorium of Music and facilitated by Nikki Sullivan Program Coordinator Voice/Piano Instrumental Music School Services. Book now! Teachers welcome WESFARMERS ARTS MAKE-UP WORKSHOPS Students of all ages will be completely immersed in this practical, hands on workshop. Our professional, industry make-up artist will demonstrate stagecraft techniques in the creation of a character including ageing, bruising and blood then it’s over to you to experiment with products and create your own personality.

WESFARMERS ARTS PRODUCTION WORKSHOP West Australian Opera gives your students an exclusive backstage pass to the mysterious and hidden world of theatre. Experience a two hour hands on workshop exploring the elements that make an opera production come to life including lighting, stage management and flying. Workshops are conducted by professional, practicing industry staff.

OPERA YOUTH NIGHT AND YOUTH AMBASSADOR PROGRAM West Australian Opera is committed to introducing our art form to new audiences and encouraging a lifelong love for opera. OPERA YOUTH NIGHT
YOUTH AMBASSADOR PROGRAM
We invite teachers and secondary students to join us pre-performance for refreshments and a personalised introduction to the opera work. Meet artists and likeminded students in a casual environment and explore the work you are about to see.
Following our inaugural year in 2017 we are thrilled to be able to continue this program in 2018. Eight Youth Ambassadors will be selected to join West Australian Opera for a year of backstage secrets, meeting artists and discovering the multiple layers of presenting an opera. West Australian Opera has a range of workshops and talks that are available on demand for local libraries. We invite you to learn, laugh and dream with us as we explore opera through a variety of mediums including hands on workshops and lectures accompanied by live performances. WESFARMERS ARTS SINGING CLASSES Suitable for 18 years + Everybody has a voice but do you know how to use yours? Whether you are a seasoned performer, chorister or absolute beginner we want to share with you the unique experience of singing classes in an opera chorus environment. Together we will explore a wide range of repertoire and gain an insight into what makes opera such an incredible art form. You will leave each class feeling inspired by the magnificent music you help bring to life and amazed at how the body works to produce sound all within a relaxed, social environment. Classes are offered at beginner and intermediate levels and in 8 week blocks. Starting with the basics of vocal production and an introduction to aural Training. Participants will experience various styles and traditions of operatic singing. 7.30PM INTERMEDIATE Aimed at those with some singing experience, this stream will help to refine and develop singing skills through singing technique and the rehearsal of more advanced repertoire from the operatic cannon. Participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of ensemble singing and the artistic possibilities it can portray.
