WELCOME
The City of Perth is proud to be a long-standing major sponsor of Opera in the Park. This year we celebrate the 30th anniversary of this popular annual summer event presented free of charge in the one of the city’s beautiful parks.
Opera in the Park is an accessible platform for everyone to experience the magic of opera. This year’s 30th anniversary concert will feature an abundance of Western Australian talent and delight audiences with favourites from the world of opera and musical theatre. On behalf of the City of Perth I acknowledge and thank the company, its Principal Partner Wesfarmers Arts, its funders, its sponsors, and its artists for their long-standing commitment to delivering this important cultural event in the city. Annual events like Opera in the Park bring the community together, and introduce audiences to new cultural experiences. At the city we are proud to support innovative and inclusive arts and cultural activities which nurture a vibrant and diverse city. It is a joy to welcome you all to gather – at a socially distanced pace, of course – in these challenging times. Carolyn Chard AM Enjoy the performance as we welcome you into the city not just this evening but everyday. Executive Director West Australian Opera Basil Zempilas, Lord Mayor City of Perth For 30 years West Australian Opera has presented Opera in the Park, igniting emotions, and sharing live performance with thousands of Western Australians. This is a significant milestone and I acknowledge that producing an event on this scale takes a monumental effort from our staff, artists, suppliers, and supporters. We have been fortunate that partnerships with the City of Perth and Lotterywest have enabled Opera in the Park to become a flagship event on the state’s summer calendar. After COVID19 disrupted 2020 we are proud to be able to return to live performance and to reconnect with the people of Western Australia in a new COVID safe format for Opera in the Park 2021. We are pleased to be able to offer this event over two performance dates in person and continue our commitment to the digital landscape with a livestream of the concert that can be accessed via the WAO website and watched from anywhere in this state, country or across the globe. Please feel welcome to continue to colour your world with opera in 2021. I am certain that you will find something that will inspire you in this year’s season at www.waopera.asn.au Carolyn Chard AM, Executive Director West Australian Opera
