PFC Clarence Halverson
Private First Class Clarence Halverson was born in 1924 and was raised on a farm in rural Kerkhoven. He was inducted into the United States Army on October 12, 1944. Following his basic training at Camp Robinson in Little Rock, Arkansas he was assigned to the 25th infantry and sent to the Philippines.
Clarence saw considerable action in Luzon and was awarded a bronze battle star. Following the liberation of the Philippines and the surrender of the Japanese, he was part of the occupation forces in Japan. For his service in the Philippines and Japan, Clarence received a Combat Infantry Badge, a Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, the Asiatic – Pacific Ribbon, a Victory Medal, and an Army of Occupation Medal-Japan.
Clarence was honorably discharged from the United States Army on December 8, 1946. Following his discharge from the army, Clarence returned to Kerkhoven where he currently resides with his wife Gerry.
