Camp Keppler

3-5 yrs old

Participants will focus on skills learned in preschool and needed for kindergarten. Monday thru Thursday swim lessons are included when you register for a full week of Camp Keppler. All campers must be fully potty trained and out of pull-ups.

Camp We-Go

Entering 1st-6th Grade

Campers will have an exciting summer with 1-2 field trips a week, and swimming at Turtle Splash every other day. Camp WE-GO will focus on keeping children active throughout the summer utilizing group games, fitness, team building and more.

We-Go Teen Camp

Entering 7th-9th Grade

We will keep teens busy all summer long at Teen Camp! Leave it to us to plan your teen’s exciting summer. Campers will go on 2-3 field trips a week and swim at Turtle Splash. Your teen will not be bored this summer!

The West Chicago Park District Summer Camp Program will do its best to accommodate session dates according to School District dates once they are finalized. Beginning Golf Clinics

Kids

This clinic is a great way to introduce the basics and some golf etiquette. The class will teach basic golf techniques covering the swings involved with all clubs. The class is designed for the beginner and will introduce the proper from for putting, chipping, and full swing. It will have a low student/teacher ratio, 10 to 1.

Adults

This highly demanding program is designed for the relative newcomer to golf. Each session will specialize in putting, chipping, and full swing techniques.

Range balls will be provided. Please bring your own clubs. If you do not own clubs, a set can be provided for use at this clinic. This class is taught by Dave Erickson, PGA Head Professional at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in West Chicago. (JU)

Adult Drop-in Pickleball

If you haven’t heard of or played Pickleball, you’re missing out on the biggest craze since the Hoola Hoop! Pickleball is traditionally played on a badminton-sized court with special Pickleball paddles and a ball similar to a whiffle ball, but slightly smaller. The lower net and whiffle ball allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, while still allowing more competitive players to test their mettle. It was created with one thing in mind: FUN! It is easy to learn and play so, grab a few friends and head to the ARC Center and give Pickle-ball a try! Checkout a paddle at the front desk using your I.D. and meet in the gym. (ML)

Pickleball Basics

If you are interested in playing Pickleball but don’t know where to start, this drop-in program is for you!! Every Thursday from 6:00-9:30 p.m. the ARC Center offers 50+ Drop-In Pickleball for players 0 (new)-3.0. From 7:00-7:30pm a “Pickleball Basics” workshop will be taught. This workshop will consist of rules and scoring, parts of a pickleball court, how to hold the paddle, serving, forehand and back hand strokes, and beginning strategies. There is no additional cost for the lesson, just pay the drop-in fee, get a paddle from the front desk (or bring your own) and meet in the gym. Instructors will vary each week. MARTIAL ARTS

Judo (sport): Simple and Basic

Judo is two individuals who, by gripping uniforms, use forces of balance, power, timing and physics to subdue their opponents. Judo does not use striking techniques of any kind. It’s a purely defensive sport, based on other’s aggressive moves. It involves techniques of throwing, grappling, submission holds. It all starts from a standing position and then moves to the ground for submission techniques or to pin your opponent. Promotions are based on competitions from green, brown and black belt ranks. Uniforms are mandatory as are four competitions per year. Great cross training for wrestlers of any age. (JU)

Jiujitsu

Japanese class of self-defense with emphasis on empty hand and leg applications. We stress values such as respect, honor and integrity. Jiujitsu is called the gentle hand way. It allows the defender to accept the force from the attacker and turn it back on themselves. This class covers beginner to advanced empty hand self-defense applications, such as joint locks, throws, striking techniques, escapes, wrist controls, and falling both basic and advanced. Throwing is a basic part of jiujitsu and ground work. Most MMA sport techniques are based on combat applications taught by jiujitsu. Uniforms are mandatory after first class. Please see instructor. Tai-Chi

Tai Chi has been around for over 500 years but it is exploding in the American market! Tai Chi provides a beneficial impact on health through moving meditation. The exercises are easy to do, have low aerobic impact and are done slowly with natural body alignment, movement and breathing. Tai Chi is the practice of kinetics, musculature, skeletal and ligament alignment, moving posture and breathing. Join us if you need a low impact aerobic routine. Please wear loose fitting clothing.
