Celebrating 30 years of the best Agricultural Equipment, Products and Services This year celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Agri-Trade equipment expo in Red Deer, Alberta happening from November 6th – 9th. The Agri-Trade concept was first developed in 1983 after attending the Farm Progress Show in Regina, SK and realizing Central Alberta would benefit from having its own show. After much discussion and debating, the Agri-Trade Equipment Expo was set to open their doors in October 1984. The venue of Westerner Park in Red Deer has been the home to Agri-Trade for the past 30 years and originally the space consisted of only the Stockmen’s and North Pavilions. As Westerner Park has expanded over the years, Agri-Trade has followed suit taking all available inside space. The total square footage of the 1st show was 70,000 sq feet compared to the 2013 version which hosts 320,000 sq feet of inside space and over 75,000 sq feet of outdoor exhibits. The first showing of Agri-Trade was greatly supported by local ag dealers in the area including some big name equipment such as John Deere, New Holland, Case, International, Kubota, Degelman, Morris Rod Weeder and Versatile. We are pleased to still have these great supporters with us today and their presence is ever expanding at the show. The first show was not without its challenges weather wise. A large snow system moved into the Red Deer area on the Monday of that week stranding exhibitors arriving from Saskatchewan and other eastern destinations. Bad weather had also delayed harvest for the year and many farmers were still trying to harvest. Organizers steadied themselves and proceeded on with the show and the skies finally cleared by the Friday making the 1st showing of Agri-Trade a success. In 1987 the decision was made to move the annual event to November and this date has been followed ever since to coincide with the Canadian Finals Rodeo that happens in Edmonton. The 30th Anniversary of Agri-Trade will also recognize the retirement of Patrick Kennedy who has been the Show Manager since the inception of the show in 1984. Patrick has always given Agri-Trade his full attention which is why this year we get to celebrate the 30th Anniversary. Although this year is a celebration of 30 years of progress and growth, Agri-Trade remains focused on providing the best possible Agricultural Equipment Expo for the next 30 years for both attendees and exhibitors alike. The goal will remain to provide the latest and greatest in Agricultural Equipment/Technology/Products and Services to our valued attendees and make sure we remain on their calendars as the “must attend” event in November.

A Message From... The Manager of Access Prosperity On behalf of the board and staff of Central Alberta: Access Prosperity, it is my pleasure to welcome all exhibitors, delegates and guests to the 2013 Agri-Trade Exposition. The 2013 event promises another exciting and full five days of agri-business activity and Central Alberta: Access Prosperity is proud to be a major sponsor of this important event. Access Prosperity is an economic development organization that supports business retention and expansion in businesses within the region, works with International businesses seeking to grow their presence in the Central Alberta market, and makes business-to-business connections between the two. As such, we’re pleased to be the hosts for several international companies and delegates at Agri-Trade 2013. Agri-Trade has achieved an outstanding level of success and acclaim, and each year generates a new level of interest and attention from the international community. This event is critical to the economic sustainability and growth of Central Alberta and it is a pleasure to be a participant. Congratulations to the Agri-Trade team on reaching the 30th anniversary of this renowned exposition. Best wishes for continued success!
Al Kemmere Access Prosperity Board Chairman
The Agri-Trade Committee Chair 2013 is a milestone year for Agri-Trade. In my role as 2012-2013 committee chair and as an annual exhibitor at the show I marvel at the progress each show year reveals. My father, Sam was involved in the early years of Agri-Trade and now some thirty years later I am following in his footsteps. We are delighted to have Dianne Smirl involved with the show as she moves into her full management responsibilities next year. The entire show bears testimony to the expression that progress is change. Each year a fresh new Agri-Trade opens its doors to showcase all the latest technology that keeps agriculture bubbling in Alberta and Western Canada. Attendees come to see, experience and to learn as Agri-Trade signals the completion of another crop year and the start of production plans for next year. We are excited and enthused to have the three sponsored major attendee prizes on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of the show. Imagine taking home a $10,000.00 valued winning. Certainly will make some lucky attendee glad that they decided to attend. Details are on the web site at www.agri-trade.com As I step down from my responsibilities as committee chair this year, I welcome incoming chairman Rob Saik for the 2014 and 2015 show years. It has been an honor to be involved with the show and to work with the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce and Westerner Exposition Association partnership. I met many new friends and formed many new relationships during my involvement with Agri-Trade. I am thankful for all of them. Every one of them has taught me something that I will carry forward into my future years in business. I wish you all well in the years to come.
Ed Dixon Agri-Trade Committee Chair 6 2013 AGRI-TRADE SHOW GUIDE

The world population will increase 47%, to
8.9 billion by 2050, which means agriculture must double production within that time to sustain growth.
What’s up in the world of Agri-Business? The hustle and bustle and excitement of the Agri-Trade Show and Sale each year is due in no small part to the anticipation of seeing the latest gadgetry, technology and ag-innovation. The 2013 show will host a wealth of insight and information into emerging trends, processes, and advances in technology. Here are some of the interesting things you may learn about during your visit to the show: 1) There’s an exponential increase in global agri-business opportunity: Leading futurist, keynote and author Jim Carroll points out in his article Agriculture 2020: Innovation, Growth and Opportunity!, world population will increase 47%, to 8.9 billion by 2050, which means agriculture must double production within that time to sustain growth. Additionally, while the global economy has seen its fair share of fits and starts in recent years, there is no doubt that the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) are gaining strength. As economic conditions improve in these nations, citizen demand for a safe, secure food supply is driven up. That represents tremendous opportunity for Canadian producers and suppliers. 2) Canada is well-positioned to capitalize on food trends: Agriculture and Agri-food Canada reported in June that there is public demand for enhanced nutrition in natural and processed food is providing an impetus for innovation in research and development. Enriching pork with Omega 3 fats, exploring ways to get milk solids into more processed foods and intensive studies on probiotics is currently underway. Leading researcher Dr. Claude Champagne believes this research will have “a positive technological impact on Canadian probiotics producers and food manufactures.” 3) Biofuels are going mainstream: Make way for the second and third generation of biofuels. It’s not about corn anymore. Livestock producers are turning methane into green energy, and soybean oil, Brazilian sugarcane and even garbage are just some examples of advanced biofuels currently working their way into the market place. While these are still early days in Canada for biofuel profitability, the interest is there. Central Alberta, with its strong foundation of ag-innovation, is finding more and more interest in renewables and biofuels. 4) High-tech farming is here to stay: As you walk the show floor you will no doubt be astounded by what digitized equipment and tools have come to. From electric motors to telematics, digitized diagnostics and farm management information systems (FMIS), the sky’s the limit on what’s available to support precision farming. If your agri-business is ready to take on new frontiers and you want to find partners, form alliances and access new markets, come to the Central Alberta International Business Centre on the second floor of the Prairie Pavilion and speak with one of the Access Prosperity team members, or contact us at info@accessprosperity.ca
Know. Like. Trust. These are the foundational principles upon which all successful business is generated. People do business with people, so if they feel like they know you, like you and can trust you, the opportunity exists for a successful business relationship to be formed. If you are looking to forge strong relationships in the Agri-business sector, Central Alberta has a mechanism in place to help. Central Alberta: Access Prosperity is an economic development initiative focused on promoting economic growth in the Central Alberta region, with three main objectives: o Supporting businesses in Central Alberta to be strong, stable and ready to grow o Attracting International businesses to invest in the region o Facilitating business-to-business matches using all available tools At Agri-Trade 2013, Access Prosperity will be sponsoring an International Business Centre. Exhibitors, delegates and show guests are invited to visit the team in the Lookout Room on the second floor. There, International companies, a printing/faxing/copy centre (Courtesy 8 2013 AGRI-TRADE SHOW GUIDE
of Printer World) and of course the Access Prosperity team are all available to help you make good business-to-business connections and begin building those strong relationships that can set you up for business success! Consider discussing with the Access Prosperity team these questions: - What kind of business presence would you like to establish or increase in Central Alberta - ie. Committed customers, sales office, distributorship, store front or operations site? - What kind of business relationships would you like to explore - ie. New customer, strategic alliances, joint ventures, franchisees, sale of business? - What type of new business relationship could improve your operations - ie. Expansion, new supply chain relationships, strategic alliances? Access Prosperity has a robust business matchmaking program that is designed to connect you to tools that can support business sustainability and advance your business growth objectives

Awards This year we celebrate the 6th year of our Ag Innovations program at the show. Started in 2008 the program was developed to celebrate innovation by our exhibitors in the Agriculture Industry and the program gains momentum each year. At Agri-Trade we define innovation as the development of new ideas that meet new requirements or market needs. Innovation differs from “invention” in that innovations refer to the use of a better and, as a result, novel idea of method rather than the creation of the idea of method itself. The goal for exhibitors in submitting their applications is to showcase to our attendees a new way to approach a challenge or solution for an agriculture problem. The judging process incorporates an efficient and focused matrix system that weighs a number of important questions applied to each entrant. A team of volunteer judges (regional farmers) enter qualification numbers for each entry and the winners are determined by the weighting of each judge’s response. The 2013 program saw the highest level of applications by exhibitors in the history of the program with over 22 companies participating. Also announced was a new category “Best Ag App” which the judges really enjoyed getting familiar with the technology. Past winners have included; Degelman Industries, Sundog Solar, Farmers Edge Precision, JTL Industries, Gallagher and Houston Seed Saver.
Best Ag App
Farm At Hand | Booth SAL0117 Farm At Hand is literally your farm at your fingertips; a multi platform cloud based farm management program allowing producers to track everything on their farm from seed to sale. Winners John Deere - Return to Position Booth PKL0511 John Deere’s innovative Return-To-Position (RTP) option for 6R tractors and H-Series loaders provides superior productivity and repeatability during material handling activities by allowing the operator to store two boom and two bucket positions and then reach those positions with a simple activation of the electronic joystick. RTP also incorporates the Electronic Self-Leveling (ESL) feature that easily transforms a non-self-leveling loader into a self-leveling loader or improves the leveling accuracy of a mechanical self-leveling loader. Devloo Mud Scrapers - Rotating Mud Scrapers Booth SAL0103 Devloo Roto Mud Scrapers are custom built for any seeder and result in more consistent seed depth, better fuel economy and less friction and wear. When you KEEP THE MUD OFF you improve seed placement which results in better crops, period. Gatco Manufacturing - Cross Flow Aeration Booth AGE1202 CrossFlow Aeration is a revolutionary new method of aerating grain bins. CrossFlow Aeration moves air horizontally through the bin which aerates more quickly and efficiently with smaller fans than conventional aeration, resulting in better grain quality in less time with lower electrical bills. CrossFlow Aeration is the future of grain cooling and drying. AGI - STORM Seed Treater | Booth PRA0102 The STORM seed treater with specifically designed, integrated auger unit and electronic controls allow you to finally treat your seed with absolute accuracy. The metering conveyor measures seed flow and automatically adjusts the peristaltic pumps to match treatment flow for optimal coverage, this reduces waste and ensures consistent coating from the first seed to the last.

2013 AGRI-TRADE SHOW GUIDE 23
Be an AGvocate Speak up, speak positively Those of us involved in agriculture love what we do and we want the best for our industry. We know why agriculture is important to Canada and the world, and that it provides a lifestyle that can’t be beat. But we tend to be a humble group, so others may not hear this message. We need to remember: image matters. What we say about agriculture influences how people view our industry. Share your passion and optimism for agriculture and let it shine through everything you say and do – being an agvocate is that easy. Agvocates look for opportunities to talk about what’s going well in agriculture. They fill in information gaps, help dispel myths and learn more about the industry. Image is critical to our future, and fortunately we have a very positive story that we can tell. So let’s tell it.
• Get young people excited. There are jobs – great jobs. There’s farming of course, but many more options from science and sales to processing and manufacturing. • Speak positively. Investment tends to flow to progressive industries that have a promising future. • Inform consumers we’re capable business managers and stewards of the land, driven to produce safe, high quality food using sustainable methods. Our image matters – in fact, it has never mattered more. Tell the world why you love agriculture and what the industry means to you. We’re counting on you to tell the real, positive story of Canadian agriculture.
AGRI-TRADE is a proud champion of this cause

Join the conversation There are so many reasons to be ag proud. Agriculture More Than Ever is an industry-driven cause to improve perceptions and create positive dialogue about Canadian agriculture. Changing perceptions is a big job. It’s going to take all of us – from corporations and associations to farms and individuals.
• Become an Ag More Than Ever partner – over 200 have already signed on. • Read and watch stories featuring people who are passionate about our industry. And you can share yours.
Visit AgricultureMoreThanEver.ca to get involved:
• Like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, and use #AgMoreThanEver when sharing positive stories, photos or facts.
• Add your name to our agvocate list and join a community of people who share your passion.
Canadian agriculture needs your voice. Let’s all speak up and speak positively about ag.
• Find facts (like the ones above) and resources to help you be an agvocate.
