Canadian Western Agribition 2017 Official Show Guide

On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers, it is my honour to welcome you to the 47th edition of Canadian Western Agribition! Agribition is an event like no other and stands apart from all other industry events because of its wide suite of programs and events that showcase the agriculture industry and western lifestyle through a spirit of volunteerism. No other show can boast the pride that is shared by those who contribute their energy and talents throughout the entire year. Over the past 47 years, Agribition has become recognized nationally and internationally as North America’s best beef show and Canada’s premier agriculture showcase. Agribition’s focus on showcasing and marketing Canada’s agricultural products and expertise to the world has a deserved and longstanding tradition of excellence. In addition to the best livestock genetics, you will find a world-class trade show with over 450 exhibitors, education seminars, youth development, and of course a wide range of entertainment. A highlight for some has become the Food Pavilion which showcases local products as well as telling the story of food production “from the pasture to the plate”. A message from the Mayor of Regina Welcome to the thousands of visitors and exhibitors from across Canada and around the world arriving in Regina for the 2017 Canadian Western Agribition. Agribition is truly an iconic event in our city. We have proudly hosted Canada’s foremost agriculture show and marketplace since 1971, and it is a staple for people in and around the city. Agriculture has been a way of life for the people of this province since before its inception, and it is something Agribition celebrates each year with an exciting line-up of events and shows. This year is even more exciting as Agribition is the first major event in our brand new, fully completed International Trade Centre (ITC). The ITC will be at the heart of the show and this 150,000 sq. ft. multi-purpose facility will connect with the other buildings at Evraz Place. This means that for the first time, the event will be under “one roof” with no need for visitors to step outside once they arrive. For the many visitors who have traveled to Regina, make sure to take in all the city has to

Each of you plays an important role in representing our city and keeping our agricultural industry strong. Welcome to Canadian Western Agribition

Show Information

Welcome to Agribition 2017 What a difference a year makes. 2017 marks a watershed moment for Canadian Western Agribition (CWA). At last, our facilities match the quality and reputation of the show and we can proudly put our best boot forward for you: our valued exhibitors and guests. The International Trade Centre (ITC) is bright, modern, and inviting. It allows CWA to grow into an even stronger marketing tool for our livestock exhibitors for years to come. With its completion, Regina becomes home to the largest interconnected event facility in North America, and Agribition will fill up almost every corner in 2017. At the centre of the action, you’ll find the new Chevrolet GMC Arena with state of the art video screens, modern bleacher seating, and a dedicated bar service. The ITC will also be home to purebred beef cattle and some of the horse stalling. Overlooking it all is Agribition’s new International Business Centre (IBC); the home base for our 1,200+ International guests, buyers and anyone looking to socialize and do business on a global scale. The new IBC will feature floor-toceiling windows overlooking the Chevrolet GMC Arena, full connectivity, meeting rooms, food and beverage service and a host of modern business conveniences. Elsewhere at the show, favourites like Agribition Pro Rodeo and Full Contact Jousting return for what’s expected to be another soldout week of entertainment. New this year, however, is a full night of FREE equine performance in the Brandt Centre on Monday – perfect for horse lovers and families looking for something affordable and fun! As always, CWA is your one-stop shop for Christmas gifts too. With more than 450 trade

Show Information show booths offering everything from salad spinners to saddles, CWA turns into one of Saskatchewan’s largest and most unique shopping mall. Visitors to the Food Pavilion will be treated to a rejuvenated program and layout focused on Saskatchewan’s food story, featuring local food trucks, captivating cooking demonstrations and the popular Living Sky Winery Garden. Finally, it’s our mission to make it as fun and easy as possible to come to Agribition. This year, we’re making the Agribition Express shuttle bus service FREE. And when you arrive on the bus, you get into the grounds for just $6, less than half price! We’re also offering new and improved food and beverage options throughout the grounds, a coat and parcel check, and more onsite parking than in recent years. So whether you’re here to show cattle, see friends, go shopping, or simply spend the day with family, we are rolling out the welcome mat for you. We’re proud of our new home and we couldn’t be happier to share it with you. Enjoy the show!

Equine Extravaganza is a night full of free equine education and entertainment! You will learn about horses from both a competition and a performance perspective. The evening will begin at 6:00 PM with a demonstration by the Saskatchewan Horse Federation including vaulting, reining, dressage and jumping. Following the equine demonstration is one of the world’s best entertainers, Tommie Turvey, and his celebrity horses. Tommie Turvey is a renowned animal trainer and performer and will bring his fast-paced brand of horsemanship, stunts and trick-riding to the show. Turvey has trained many celebrity horses including the Budweiser Clydesdales and the horses you see on the hit TV series “The Walking Dead”. He has a number of different acts which include: The Riding Instructor: Tommie Turvey and the funniest horse under saddle, Poker Joe will astound you as they find out who is schooling whom. Poker Joe always gets the upper-hoof as this “dressage” demonstration goes from funny to hysterical. This is the most requested and memorable equine act in the business. Extreme Roman Riding: Fast action, fancy footwork and exciting thrills are what you get when you have two beautiful horses and one dar-

ing rider. Tommie Turvey shows why he is the best of the best when it comes to riding atop two horses. This performance will have you on the edge of your seats! The Cowboys Friends: A cowboy’s partner is his horse and his dog is his best friend. You’ll see amazing tricks and the fun that Tommie has with his Mustang, Blade and his Red Heeler dog, Maverick. Watch as they ride a boogie board around the arena pulled by Blade. They are unlikely friends who have achieved notoriety for their relationship, training and performances with Tommie. This is the ultimate fun you can have with your best friends. The Art of Liberty: Tommie Turvey shows the

relationship you can have with horses. This is the “Art of Liberty” as he communicates with his horses with only voice and touch. The sight of a horse roaming free while dancing, galloping and working in harmony is breathtaking. You will be inspired and amazed at the “connection” they have with each other. You can also see Tommie Turvey in action Tuesday through Friday at 12:00 PM and Saturday at 11:30 AM in the Brandt Centre.

Learning is Fun at Agribition!

Indigenous Pavilion

Agribition offers an extensive Education program including the Family Ag Pavilion, milking demonstrations, and the thinkAG Career and Education Expo as a means to educate others on agricultural practices and the food they eat.

The Family Ag Pavilion sponsored by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture and Ledcor, offers a variety of interactive displays and activities encompassing many aspects of the agriculture industry. “As organizers, we want to continually offer a hands-on learning experience that people will remember,” says Carla Borsa, Education Team Leader and Canadian Western Agribition (CWA) Board Member. “The Education Program at Agribition instills an expanded view of agriculture through fun and interactive activities for the whole family.” There are eight interactive stations featuring multimedia and virtual reality games, designed to teach youth about agriculture.

New to the Family Ag Pavilion this year, and a first of its kind in Saskatchewan, is a full size and anatomically accurate cattle birthing simulator. In partnership with the Western College of Veterinary Medicine and the Ministry of Agriculture, CWA is excited to offer this state-of-the-art educational tool, to offer students a hands-on interactive opportunity only available at Agribition! Round out your visit to the Family Ag Pavilion by seeing your favourite animals including cattle, sheep, chickens, turkeys, honey bees, and more! The Family Ag Pavilion is located in The Co-operators Centre Arena 1 and open Monday – Saturday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Milking Demonstration A family trip to Agribition isn’t complete without seeing a Milking Demonstration, located in the Canada Centre Show Sale Arena put on by SaskMilk. Visitors will get a firsthand view of where milk comes from and meet some of the great people who are a part of the dairy industry. Check daily schedules for milking times.

Competitors will battle to become the champion of Ritchie Bros. looks like.”

It is common for auctioneers to travel around North America to compete for cash and prizes and show off their craft. The Winners Circle is a unique event featuring a blend of live animals being sold, combined with art work, holiday packages, and beauty products. This adds to the complexity of the competition and brings out the showmanship in the competitors found only at Agribition. They are more than just fast talkers - it is art in motion. The beneficiary of the proceeds at the charity auction is STARS air ambulance. STARS is a nonprofit organization that provides specialized emergency medical care and transportation for critically ill and injured patients. Simply put, STARS fights for life. The sight of a red helicopter is a beacon of hope for those in their moments of need. Since establishing operations in Saskatchewan in 2012, STARS has flown more than 4,200 missions to over 500 communities across Saskatchewan from its bases in Regina and Saskatoon.

About 50 per cent of the funds required to operate the service in Saskatchewan come from fundraisers and corporate, community and individual donors - that’s $10.5 million the charity needs to raise annually. STARS is proud to serve the people of Saskatchewan and thanks you for your ongoing support. The courage to fight for life is within us all. Join us Monday, November 20 at 7:00 PM in the Chevrolet GMC Arena for a fun, fast-paced evening of auction excitement!
