ARCONIC FOUNDATION
The Arconic Foundation has generously awarded the West Lafayette Parks and Recreation Foundation a $25,000 grant to support environmental stewardship and education With this support, we can add animal ambassadors to the Lilly Nature Center, construct an osprey nesting tower, and fund several beautification projects around Celery Bog. We cannot thank the Arconic Foundation enough for all of their support.
THE SYCAMORE AUDUBON SOCIETY
There is an exciting development at the Celery Bog! A new tower is being constructed to serve as a roosting site for chimney swifts Chimney swifts are birds that historically utilized snags (dead standing trees) for roosting during their fall migration. However, with the decline of snags due to human activity, the swifts have had to adapt to using chimneys on buildings. As chimneys fallen out of use, the swifts now rely on us to provide suita roosting habitats. The construction of this tower aims to a chimney swifts during their migration, with the hope that t use it as a stopover roosting site During migration, these can number in the hundreds or thousands and are known a mesmerizing "swirling vortex," all converging into the to roost overnight The Sycamore Audubon Society generou funded this project and it was built by our AmeriCorps Cre members
