Attendance Policy

Subject: Attendance of students in the RN-BSN/Post-licensure Program Effective Date: August 1, 2022

1. Attendance of RN-BSN/Post-licensure Program students in both class and practice experiences (lab, offsite learning opportunities, capstone hours, etc.) is monitored closely.

2. Attendance expectations including class attendance, excused absences, and absences from examinations are found in the College Catalog. a. RN-BSN/Post-licensure Program Students are expected to share their class and practice experience schedule with work managers/supervisors to avoid conflicts. Missing class or a practice experience due to work may be considered an excused absence. Make-up experiences for practice experiences are required and scheduled at the discretion of the course professor. b. As classes often only meet weekly, more than two excused absences and more than two unexcused absences in a semester is considered excessive.

c. Students who exhibit excessive absences are required to meet with the

Department of Chair to outline a plan to improve attendance. d. As per the College Catalog, the Department of Nursing will notify the Office of Academic Affairs of any student who misses more than 25% of class and practice experience hours. The student is at risk of being involuntarily withdrawn from the course.

3. In the event of an absence from a practice experience, the student must contact the course professor as soon as possible. As noted above, make-up experiences for practice experiences are required and scheduled at the discretion of the course professor.

4. In the event of an absence from class, the student is asked to notify the course professor as soon as possible. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of all material or information missed.

a. If a class includes class participation points, those points may not be awarded if the student is not present. b. If a class includes a quiz or exam, the quiz or exam may be made-up at the discretion of the course professor.
