RESTAURANT REVIEW
Good value, something for everyone at Pizza Pasta & Things By Jananne Abel
rom pizza to lobster, there’s something for everybody at Clino’s Pizza Pasta & Things. Whether you want to serve yourself or be served, there’s a place for you at this casual family restaurant. While other restaurants have come and gone in Port Chester in the past 28 years, Pizza Pasta & Things has remained a staple among Italian eateries offering good food at reasonable prices.
F
It’s not fancy and the service isn’t particularly professional, but you get good quality for your money at Clino’s, located in the Kohl’s Shopping Center at 529 Boston Post Rd. While the restaurant is in a shopping center that attracts customers from all over, it’s also a local eating establishment where you’re inclined to meet friends and neighbors. Pizza Pasta & Things has been called a well-kept secret, and that may be the case for some, while others have made the restaurant a regular part of their eating-out routine. I imagine there are those who only know Clino’s as a pizzeria and don’t realize that besides the booths and informal dining room for self-serve eaters at the front of the store, there is also a full dining room and menu with table service at the back. Clino’s is known for its famous garlic rolls, scrumptious little knots of dough permeated with garlic and lightly salted. While other restaurants have since duplicated the recipe, Pizza Pasta & Things was the first restaurant in the area to offer them. What’s more, they come on the table at no extra cost with each meal. My kids have long told me that Pizza Pasta & Things has the best salad pizza around. In past years their fairly thin-crusted pizza was judged the best in Westmore News contests. Personal pizzas have re-
cently been added to the menu of small ($11.95 to $18.95) and large ( $12.95 to $19.95) pies with from one to six toppings, small and large combination and specialty pizzas ($15.95 for a small Hawaiian to $20.95 for a large scampi) and Sicilian pies ($12.95). Personal pizzas range from $4.95 for cheese to $5.95 with a topping and $6.95 for specialty pizzas like Pizza a la Clino with mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, pesto and tomato sauce; Chicken Delight made with Italian style grilled chicken and broccoli rabe; or shrimp scampi with no tomato sauce. Grilled chicken and broccoli rabe on homemade bread and Eggplant a la Clino (with roasted peppers, fresh mozzarella and tomato) on homemade bread, both $6.95, have been added to the takeout menu of pizza rolls, calzones and other finger foods like mozzarella sticks, Buffalo wings, gyros, Philly cheese steak sandwiches, hamburgers and fried calamari. Of course, everything on the goodsized menu can be ordered for takeout—from hot wedges and sandwiches to appetizers, soups, salads and entrées: sausage, chicken, seafood, veal, eggplant, pasta, steaks and chops, and combinations.
