Ray’s Café: Not your typical Chinese restaurant Continued from page 3R pepper and spices was spicy but not overpowering. The bean curd, something I’d never tried before, wasn’t half bad. While the same vegetables are found in the vegetable concoctions as in the other dishes we ordered, other varieties such as baby corn and water chestnuts can be added upon request. Homemade Chinese pastas in

various forms and meat or seafood combinations range from $7.95 to $12.95. Besides the crispy noodles, there are flat wide noodles and Shanghai noodles, the latter being similar to lo mein. Lunch specials, priced at $5.25, $5.95 and $6.95, are served from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Examples are

Flat Wide Noodles with Vegetables for $5.25, Eggplant in Garlic Sauce with Chicken, Pork or Beef for $5.95, and Dry Sauteed String Beans with Shrimp for $6.95. There is a full bar with wines and liquors and specialty drinks.

Hours and such Ray’s Café is open Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 12 noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m. Ray’s has placed copies of its lunch specials and dinner menu outside the restaurant for customers to grab on their way in. This idea makes a lot of sense so customers can decide if there’s something they like on the menu or choose the selections for their takeout order before going inside. The Yangs opened a second location in Rye Brook after looking in Scarsdale and Greenwich. Their real estate agent, also a customer, finally found this spot. Business has been brisk, said Richard, and “we think we made a good decision.”
