Leap into summer! Westridge School’s

Summer Opportunities Fair 2013 Presented by Outlook Newspapers Welcome to the annual Summer Opportunities Fair! This year, we celebrate 22 years of bringing summer opportunities to the community. This event would not be possible without the many people who make it a success – the parent and student volunteers, sponsors, exhibitors and resource center participants, patrons, Westridge staff, and fair-day guests – and for this, we thank you! Congratulations on getting an early start to finding just the right summer programs for your children. Summer may be months away, but why not leap into summer and begin collecting information now? There’s no better place to start than right here at the Summer Opportunities Fair. This year’s fair brings together over 100 exhibitors of K-12 summer programs in one place so that you can discover first hand the many and varied programs not only in your own neighborhood, but in the greater Los Angeles area, across the nation, and even across the oceans. Summer offerings include outdoor adventure, fine and performing arts, academics, travel, community service opportunities for teens, and options for children with special needs – and most importantly, programs to fit every budget. Westridge first hosted the fair 22 years ago, and since then has watched it evolve into a major community service event on a national scale. This year’s fair began its planning hundreds of days ago, has involved hundreds of parent volunteers who invested hundreds of volunteer hours, and will surely end up with hundreds of new friends and supporters. Our thanks go out to the Summer Opportunities Fair committee for creating this wonderful event once again. We are also grateful to our corporate sponsors for helping to underwrite the fair’s expenses, especially our title sponsor, the Outlook Newspapers. Thank you for joining us today, and we hope that you and your children are well on your way to a fantastic summer!

Westridge’s Summer Opportunities Fair (SOF) is made possible through the dedicated efforts of the Summer Opportunities Fair Committee and Westridge parent volunteers. I’d like to extend my thanks to the Committee and the over 200 parents who volunteer their time and talent to the fair. Thanks also to Westridge’s staff, school administration, and Advancement Office for their support, as well as Westridge parent Gretchen Seager, who as SOF Chair, has provided exceptional leadership this year. A significant portion of the proceeds from the fair helps to support the Skills Enrichment Program (SEP). SEP is an annual program supported by four local, independent schools and the Pasadena Unified School District. This program is offered to Pasadena public school students who demonstrate academic potential and leadership qualities, but who have limited access to resources that would enhance their traditional learning experience. This book contains all of the catalogs produced for the fair — fair day exhibitors, organizations present in the Resource Center, Community Service Opportunities, and Opportunities for Children with Special Needs — under one cover. We hope you find this comprehensive catalog to be informative and helpful in your summer planning. Congratulations to the Westridge community for providing an outstanding public service event!
