GHOSTS, “You’ll believe,” is a full-length novel about the world’s two most renown horror authors, each with waning sanity, and their plot to kill each other while spending a week collaborating on a horror novel in a remote house with haunted secrets. Also lurking in the graveyard is someone—or something—that is trying to get into the house.

For part of the 19th century, New York State was the chief producer worldwide of hops. From pioneer to immigrant, everyone enjoyed beer as a healthier alternative to often polluted well water. Learn how hops were grown, and beer was made in the time of our ancestors, and where our early breweries and malt houses were located.
Jane Oakes has been involved with history education for over forty years, beginning with volunteer work as a teen at the Valentown Museum in Victor. She taught classes at the Genesee Country Village & Museum and was a Museum Studies and Local history teacher-consultant for the regional BOCES Gifted and Talented programs. Grave Marker Dedication
On Saturday, August 24, 2024, a ceremony was held at Falls Cemetery honoring the five patriots of the American Revolution who are interned there: Naham Benedict (1762-1839), Phillip Caldwell (1761-1841), Charles Norton (1748-1837), James Clark (1757-1827) and Daniel Warner (1748-1839).
The program was made possible by several community groups working together. It was organized by the Rochester Chapter
among their descendants, inspiring the community with a reverence for the principles of government founded by our forefathers, encouraging historical research of the American Revolution, preserving the records of Revolutionary War Patriots, marking the locations of the Revolution, its events and its soldiers and to serve as a patriotic, historical and education institution.”
The ceremony was attended by 50 people, and included biographies about each patriot, a history of the cemetery, a history of the Town of Greece and a rifle salute. A special certificate of appreciation was given to the Hare family for over 50 years of serving as caretakers for the cemetery. Special thanks are extended to Jo Ann Ward Snyder and Bill Sauers for their contribution to research and coordination of the ceremony.
Falls Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Monroe County with the first burial in 1811.

From the Greece Ecumenical Food Shelf & Clothing Closet Thanksgiving Program for 2024
Our Thanksgiving program is centered on the gratitude aspect of this holiday and helping families to buy those special foods like the turkey, pumpkin pie and the extra side dishes that make this meal so memorable. The program is funded by community donations only. With the increased requests for help and the unpredictability of our donations, we mainly focus on assisting families in making this celebration meal a little more special, although we help a number of individuals as well. We will again give out Aldi gift cards in graduating amounts according to household size.
The Greece and Charlotte communities have been faithful and generous supporters in making this program a success since we started it in 1998. Without you, we could not make this happen. If you would like to assist us once again, you may do so in one of three ways.
•Send a check (made out to GEFS&CC) with “Holiday”
written in the memo section. Mail to 500 Maiden Lane, Rochester, NY 14616.
•Donate Aldi gift cards in amounts of $20 or $40. These amounts work the best for the different household sizes. Make sure the amount is clearly marked.
We ask that all donations be sent in by November 12. This deadline helps us to determine our cut-off point in accepting clients.
The third way is to supply a family with the food for their holiday meal. If you or your group would like to be matched with a family, call our hotline at 585-397-0604 and leave your contact information. We will get back to you and explain the details. The deadline for this option is October 20.
Together we can make Thanksgiving a more special day for so many of our struggling neighbors. Thank you!

Greece Youth recognized at Town Board Meeting
A ceremony was held during the August 22, 2024 meeting of the Greece Town Board. The ceremony recognized the accomplishments of two young Greece residents.
Recognized first was one of the recipients of the Jerry J. Helfer Youth Engagement Scholarship. The scholarship recipient, Makayla Robinson, received a proclamation and a check in the amount of $500. Makayla has been very involved in the community, both inside and outside of school. Her school activities have included being a member of the National Honor Society and being involved in high school theater events. She appreciates creativity and expression through her involvement in artistic and musical activities. Makayla has an exciting educational career ahead of her as she plans to attend Niagara University to pursue a degree in Sports Management.
The second young lady recognized was Jayden Bunch. Jayden recently received the Gold Award in her local girl scout troop. This is quite the achievement, as only 5.4% of eligible girl scouts earn the gold award. Jayden’s project was conducted in collaboration with an outreach organization called Redeeming Love that serves disadvantaged women in the community. Jayden contacted individual and business donors to collect nearly $2,000 worth of hygiene products, personal care items, and clothing. She then worked with volunteers to assemble care packages and hand them out through a weekly mobile outreach effort.
“I know I speak on behalf of our community when I say that the Town of Greece is incredibly proud of these young ladies who are making a difference in our world,” said Supervisor Reilich. “Individuals like Makayla and Jayden make our community a better place. Their demonstrated leadership and compassion set an example for us all.”
