ETA UK premieres two comedy series this month, presenting hour-long episodes of Blandings (Sundays at 8 p.m., beginning August 10), starring Timothy Spall, and half-hour installments of Rev (Thursdays at 8:30 p.m, beginning August 7), featuring Tom Hollander. Set in 1929, the 2013 production Blandings, adapted from the Blandings Castle stories by P.G. Wodehouse, follows the goings-on at the fictional castle, home to Lord Emsworth (Spall), who would rather be left in peace with his prize-winning pig Empress but is hounded by his imperious sister Connie (Jennifer Saunders), his dimwit son Freddie (Jack Farthing) and a blizzard of guests. Offering support is longsuffering butler, Beach (Mark Williams of Father Brown). Rev, a BAFTA-winning 2010 contemporary sitcom co-written by lead actor Hollander, follows an all-too-human Anglican vicar, Rev. Adam Smallbone, who has just arrived from a sleepy rural church post to shepherd a complex, inner-city parish — St. Saviour’s — in East London, a world of which he has no experience.
