OLAF CHOIR — From Trondheim’s historic Nidaros Cathedral, a holiday concert features the 75-voice St. Olaf Choir from St. Olaf College and the Norwegian girl choir, Nidaros Jentekor. The production pairs the cathedral’s gothic beauty and acoustics with the distinctive a cappella singing style for which the St. Olaf Choir is known. 10:00 SILENT NIGHT — An opera recounts the true story of the World War I Christmas Eve truce. For one evening on December 24, 1914, French, German and Scottish soldiers laid down their arms. The WETA UK Event: The Complete The Paradise fter WETA UK wraps up the series Land Girls III in early December, The WETA UK Event presents the seven-part Masterpiece costume drama The Paradise on Saturdays at 9 p.m. The Victorian Era department store drama stars Joanna Vanderham (right) as new salesgirl Denise Lovett, whose beauty and talent catch the eye of the dashing, enigmatic store owner John Moray (Emun Elliot). The Paradise is based on Émile Zola’s 1883 novel of romance and social change Au Bonheur des Dames, transplanted to North East England and set in a time when large, glittering new stores began sweeping away traditional businesses and ushering in a new consumer age. Also this month — watch for a variety of British comedy series Christmas specials (visit weta.org/happyholidays for details) and the addition to the schedule of British situation comedy Spy on December 30 at 10:30 p.m.; as well as the return of comic drama Death in Paradise (Tuesdays) and detective series DCI Banks (Wednesdays).
