Productive Shared Landscape 1/2

Final project on ÂŤProductive shared landscapeÂť Great disctinction and nominated for the faculty price. NEERPEDE VALLEY, SOUTH OF BRUSSELS

Water has a big influence in the Neerpede territory. However, it is very polluted and its potential is not yet used. Its development would allow to reorganize the territory with regards to agriculture and breeding as well as to favour existing ecosystems.

Water provided from cities is very polluted. Water filtration improves the quality of the runoff water through various systems such as phytoremediation. Marshlands allow for natural storage bassins thereby enabling the water flow to pursue its journey. Along its natural flow, the Neerpede becomes continiously purified. In order to make the most of the water runoff, agricultural fields are reorganised according to their water needs. This new agricultural organization and planting of trees continues the water putification process.

MARSHLANDS

In the Neerpede territory, there are many marshlands at many differents heights. Those marshlands are favorable sites for rich and wild ecosystem development as well as water filtration within the territory.

Productive Shared Landscape 2/2

Instead of multiplying a producers needs individually, ÂŤsharing centresÂť allow the mutualisation of resources. A return of the consumer towards the producer is renewed in catalyst locations, situated in urban areas, where local produce is sold. Sharing centres mutualize raw material and machines such as tractors or trucks. In addition, this site allows for waste recycling. They are changed into compost in order to have a cycle of decomposition and re-use in terms of fertilizer and energy thanks to metanisation. Farmer mutual aid is also an added-value from these sharing centers. Catalysers, unlike sharing centres situated in rural zones, are buit in the city. They are the selling points of the agriculture and breeding produce, it is also an education and information place, discussing water uses, water purification and local agriculture. Urban gardens are also part of the sensibilization program. Combining Natura 2000 spaces, sharing centres, catalysers and also all the points of interest through new active mobility links, eco-tourism in the Neerpede valley will be preserved.

A spatial catalyst for connecting a fragment area Workshop Upcycle during Erasmus Intensive Programme ZONA FRANCA, BARCELONA

European Commission Lifelong Learning Programme funding offered the Faculty of Architecture of Université Libre de Bruxelles the opportunity to organize an event jointly with Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Bar- celona, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, during two weeks in Barcelona. We did a design workshop in mixed groups by focusing on the potential relationship between urban design, urban metabolism and ecologies. In order to reduce cities dependence on external resources such as water, energy and raw materials, and reducing the negative externalities, we need to re-conceptualize urban space, adopting an ecosystem approach. We studied energy’s cycles, including waste flows.

Wa had one of four parts of the Zona Franca. This site was near to the city but separated by a railway and highway. My team and I opposed the dominant transitnature flows, and proposed a strategy based on dismantling the corridor. Leaning on some key plans for the deviation of the railway corridor to the old Llobregat river bed and for the substantial reduction of traffic on the ring road crossing Barcelona’s seashore side, our strategy consists in breaking up this barrier in order to bring about a qualitative change to the flows crossing the area.

The Zona Franca Industrial Estate is the largest and most active industrial area in Spain and one of the most dynamic in Europe. Created in 50’s, with more than 600 ha and 300 companies, its firms and infrastructures are changing. There is a gap between the need of local economy and global economy in this site. Our aim was to find some synergies and new energy networks to allow for a new tertiary and industrial sector.

Christian de Portzamparc Atelier International du Grand Paris Internship in urbanism in Christian de Portzamparc Studio GRAND PARIS

Christian de Portzamparc studies the living conditions. Talking in the same way as the «ilot ouvert», he investigates a new facet : create life line, rhizomes allow links within inclosed quarters. Christian’s purpose is to create «aggregative chains» which form futur metropolitain life lines which will be the future boulevards. I studied many cities in the world in order to compare their mesh. Cities like Seoul, Chicago or Paris each have their own particular cuts and ways to get around the problem. I also studied sites where life is the most present and why they are formed in these sites. It creates aggregative chains. In Paris, for example, the Rivoli street is an example of the perfect mesh. By contrast, the Defense site is a vast landlocke in the territory. Châtenay Malabry houses the prestigious Centrale Graduate School Paris since 1969. The goverment has decided to reunite all the great schools of Paris in the «plateau de Saclay» in order to establish a point of scientific excellence. Centrale Paris moves in the «plateau de Saclay» and frees 18 hectares in Châtenay Malabry. The city projects to build 203 000 m2. My role in the diagnostic file was to analyse the various scales of Ile-de-France, territory, city, quarter and accorss many themes such as mobility, regional attractivity or its situation in dynamic ways. I worked with an Autodesk extension to complete my work: Autocad MEP, a software in geographic referencing.

Furniture workshop COLLABORATION WITH RECYCLART

During a workshop between La Cambre Horta and Recyclart, a belgian non-profit organization, I designed furniture for a student bedroom. Nominated at the end of the workshop, my project will be built by the university firstly for an exhibition and later for many bedrooms. The most interesting aspect in furniture is its adaptability. It can be built whithout glue nor screws. Helped by a strap we can continue building the furniture forever and ever. Recyclart is building this furniture in several copies today. We will send it in february in order to provide new designers and a new Recyclart sales catalog. First mission, LADAA studio VILLA ALBATROS

For my first mission as an architect, I did a model for a new villa in Pyla, near from Bordeaux. We decided with the main architect to create the model in a suitcase. It was a little challenge to arrange an old one and adjust the natural slope.
