Energy-efficient installation in buildings
Intelligent technology. For energy-efficient buildings.
In addition to the requirements of the user regarding architecture and function, contemporary building technology must now also comply with very specific planning regulations. Some of the main regulations define the energy standard of buildings. This requires primary energy consumption to be reduced through higher efficiency. With the right planning, intelligent technology and suitable materials, the potential for previously unused energy-saving methods can now be utilised – completely in line with the EU directive on building efficiency and the national principles. Ultimately, living comfort, quality of work and potential savings are all positive side effects of planning regulations.
Innovative KAISER products help you to fulfil the increasing requirements of the EU directives as well as national regulations such as the Energy-Saving Ordinance (EnEV). As a result, you can easily and reliably achieve the required airtight building shell – for example, with ECON-technology which is used in a new generation of airtight cavity wall boxes and flush-mounting one-gang boxes. We also offer products suitable for electrical installations in insulated exterior facades without heat bridges – such as the universal equipment carrier.

Energy-efficient installation in buildings // Principles
The low-energy standard can reduce heat-energy consumption to approximately 40 % in comparison with normal consumption, and in passive houses even to approximately 8%. In order to achieve good saving effects by renovating existing buildings, the main requirement is optimisation of the heat insulation.
The energy efficiency of a building is determined by two factors: the optimal use of existing energy sources, and minimisation of energy losses. In addition to heating and ventilation technology the consistently well-insulated building shell is the most important factor for protecting against heat losses.
In Germany, the energy performance certificate has been compulsory for new builds since October 2007 and existing buildings since July 1, 2008. In Austria, this has applied to new
The thermal shell area of buildings is mainly formed by the exterior walls, through which 25 to 50 % of the transmission heat losses occur. Heat loss through roof surfaces is next, at 15 to 35%. Heat bridges such as contact areas and leaks through the building shell also cause losses. So, in order to achieve the best possible EnEV (Energy-Saving Ordinance) results, the building shell must be kept airtight and the external insulation must be free from heat bridges – especially with regard to electrical installation.
builds since January 1, 2008, and will apply to existing buildings starting in 2009. Switzerland will introduce the energy performance certificate, based on the EU directives, by 2010.
-3
The energy performance certificate as a key component of the new EnEV (Energy-Saving Ordinance) is a prerequisite for both commercial and residential properties. It creates more transparency for both buyers and tenants regarding the energy efficiency of a property. This factor is becoming more important in the real estate industry, not only for new build projects but also for renovation projects (existing buildings).
15
At a European level, the "Directive on the overall energy efficiency of buildings" formulated requirements that were implemented in German law with the amendment of the Energy-Saving Act 2005 and updating of the EnEV (Energy-Saving Ordinance) 2006. The basis of the new Energy-Saving Ordinance is the Energy-Saving Act (EnEG) which came into force on October 1, 2007. As early as 2002, the Energy-Saving Ordinance (EnEV) made the low-energy house the standard for new builds. In Austria, the EU directive has been national law since August 2007. In Switzerland, the "Efficiency Action Plan" enacted in 2007 regulates measures and provisions which are very similar to those stipulated by the EU directive.

The Energy-Saving Ordinance (EnEV) came into force in Germany in 2002, replacing the Heat Insulation Regulations and the Heating System Regulations which had been valid until then. The EnEV (Energy-Saving Ordinance) defines minimum standards for new and existing buildings with regards to the insulation standard and the quality of installation technology.
Energy-efficient installation in buildings // Principles
Airtight installation. Energy Saving and regulations.
The heat-insulating airtight building shell in accordance with DIN 4108 plays a key role in achieving the low-energy standard. This is even more important for passive houses, because any damage to the heat insulation here has a serious effect on the energy balance.
In addition to the energetic effect, the airtight building shell has an important protective function for the building fabric. For when warm air within the construction comes into contact with cooler surfaces, the resulting condensation causes moisture damage and the formation of mildew.
The air-tightness of buildings can be examined using the differential pressure process, the "blower door method" in accordance with DIN EN 13829. A film-covered frame is inserted in a door opening with a ventilator that generates a constant excess or low pressure of 50 Pascals in the building.
Uncontrolled draughts of air from sockets are demonstrated with the thermo-anemometer. With lightweight or cavity wall construction, a moisture barrier is applied to the warm side of the insulation to reduce diffusion. In order to achieve the desired insulating effect, this moisture barrier must not have any leaks such as can occur with electrical installations. This is why it is important to use airtight cavity wall boxes to ensure that the moisture barrier is not damaged.
The air volume flow that the ventilator must generate in order to maintain constant pressure is measured. The more leaks a building has, the more volume the ventilator must generate. The n50 value determined in this way specifies how often per hour the building air is exchanged with the exterior air. In buildings without ventilation systems, the air exchange rate must not exceed 3.0 1/h; buildings with ventilation systems are allowed to have a maximum n50 value of 1.5 1/h. To achieve low energy consumption, the aim is to achieve air exchange rates even below 1.0 1/h.
In the conventional masonry construction method, in the interior installation both the air-tightness of the cavity bricks and the avoidance of heat bridges in insulated exterior facades affect energy consumption. Here KAISER supplies airtight one-gang boxes as well as various products for installation in insulated exterior facades.
Visually, the measurement can be impressively documented using thermographic images. Leaks can be identified immediately.

ECONTECHNOLOGY // Cavity walls and flush-mounting
ECONTechnology. Airtight installation in cavity walls and masonry.
KAISER products with ECON-technology guarantee airtight installation in cavity walls and flush-mountings. The elasticity of the pierced sealing membrane ensures that it fits tightly around the cable or conduit. This prevents uncontrolled air flows and avoids heat losses as well as building damage caused by condensation.
Products with ECON-technology are airtight and ensure that unwanted ventilation heat losses are avoided. This is how ECON makes an important contribution to satisfying the requirements of the EU directive for energy efficiency as well as the implementation of national regulations such as the Energy-Saving Ordinance (EnEV).
The guaranteed airtight and easy-to-fit ECON-technology represents a KAISER standard for intelligent building installation. This technology is already available in various KAISER cavity wall and flush-mounting boxes as well as the new EnoX installation housing for airtight electrical installation in the insulation level. KAISERTECHNOLOGY. For your future.
Tool-free cable and conduit entry saves time and money during installation and is one more advantage of ECON-technology. The integrated strain relief of the new clamp technology easily satisfies the requirements of DIN VDE 0606 / DIN EN 60670 and guarantees certified safety.

In clean rooms and anywhere where there are special hygiene requirements, airtight electrical installations are required in compliance with the regulation VDI 2083l. They prevent the uncontrolled exchange of air and also keep out dust and germs, for example in operating theatres and intensive care units. KAISER products for airtight installation in cavity walls also satisfy the relevant statutory regulations.
Existing housing stock Retrofit sealing of existing installations during renovation work is also possible. Use the sealing insert (see above) to make existing one-gang boxes airtight without removing the boxes. See also pages 36 and 37.
KAISER sealing foil creates an airtight seal between the edge of the box and the boarding. In this way, rough, broken-out wall openings or a wall cut-outs which is too large can be quickly repaired and made airtight.
Special one-gang boxes for thin boarding as well as connection boxes for solid wood panels are also included in the range of KAISER products for airtight installation.

Airtight installation // EnoX installation housings
EnoX. Airtight electrical installation in the insulation level.
EnoX installation housings are used in lightweight ceilings and walls and in situations when an airtight building shell is required as part of an energy-efficient building installation. The housing prevents an uncontrolled exchange of air and guarantees dustproof installation.
EnoX is the flexible free space for airtight installation in energyefficient buildings. In walls and ceilings built using a dry construction method, there is often a conflict between the minimum insulation thickness required by the statutory regulations and the luminaire, loudspeaker or device installation which the customer wants. For the space available here is mainly taken up by insulation material which is also sealed airtight on the room side by a moisture barrier.
This means that there is little space available for the installation of cables, luminaires, loudspeakers, displays and electronic components (e. g. electronic transformers). In these cases, it is advisable to integrate the electrical installation level into the insulation level. Using the airtight EnoX installation housing, you can very easily create the insulated and thermally protected installation space that you require.
Because the installation space is so large, the devices and electronic components, e. g. transformers, are easily accessible for maintenance purposes.
The tool-free insertion ensures quick and safe installation (strain relief in accordance with DIN VDE 0606). The EnoX housing offers 4 cable entries for 3 x 1.5 2, 3 x 2.52 or 5 x 1.52 as well as 4 conduit entries up to Ø 25 mm.

Installation with surface-mounted joist. The installation takes place inside or on top of the rafters using the wood or metal joint beam. In accordance with the cavity wall box principle, the housing is fixed to the joist or to the OSB panel using the fast FX4 metal plate fastening system. The cut moisture barrier foil is made airtight again using sealing adhesive tape or the KAISER sealing foam frame. Before attaching the boarding, the moisture
barrier foil must be cut out of the housing interior. In combination with the moisture barrier, the airtight EnoX housing now forms one unit for excellent airtight installation. After you have fitted the boarding, you have an insulated and thermally protected installation space for luminaires, loudspeakers, displays and much more.

EnEV // Installation in insulated exterior facades
Installation in insulated exterior facades.
Transmission heat losses also take place on external parts of buildings, i.e. those parts which separate the heated building volume from the environment, the earth or unheated rooms. For new builds, DIN 4108 requires the heat protection on exterior parts to be carried out so that it satisfies the requirements of minimum heat protection in accordance with state-of-the-art technology.
In this context, special attention must be paid to heat bridges, i.e. locally restricted areas of the building shell where the heat flow is greater. They can take place as a result of construction methods, but also where the insulation layer is broken, for example by electrical installations. The flow of heat across a heat bridge results in a loss of energy and can also cause damage to the building structure. The lowering of the surface temperature on the inside of the space results in air moisture condensing in these locations. This can result in moisture damage or the formation of mildew.
External insulation is usually applied to the outside of walls and plastered over to provide external insulation for solid wall constructions such as masonry or concrete. Any change to the external insulation, for example with the fitting of electrical installations, could break the insulation layer and create heat bridges.
For this reason, electrical installations on insulated exterior facades must be fitted in such a way that if possible the insulation layer is not broken. Attaching electrical devices such as exterior luminaires, cameras, motion detectors etc. is made more complicated because the insulation material does not normally have sufficient stability to provide the necessary support. KAISER product systems ensure secure mechanical attachment.
Versatile KAISER product systems offer solutions for such installations and bridge the distance between an insulated facade surface and a load-bearing wall while ensuring secure attachment and retaining the insulation effect as far as possible.

Airtight installation // ECON one-gang box
Airtight flush-mounting boxes with ECONtechnology.
With modern processing methods, very precisely manufactured stone material (e.g. thin block) is worked using the tongue and groove principle without plastered butt joints and in the thin-bed mortar process (2 to 4 mm). There may be leaks if continuous vertical chambers are in contact with external air. In many cases, these wall are no longer plastered, but just filled. This means that installation boxes which have not been fully plastered can create draughts.
Airtight one-gang junction boxes with ECON-technology are designed for electrical installation in exterior walls of hollow chamber block, hollow block or perforated brick design. Their closed design and the ECON-technology ensure that no air flows enter the masonry through sockets.
The tool-free cable and conduit entry of the ECON-technology considerably simplifies and reduces the cost and work involved in installation. Where boxes have already been plastered in place, cables or conduits can very simply be retrofitted. The elasticity of the sealing membrane guarantees that the membrane fits around the pierced conduit or cable and prevents air flows.

Energy efficiency // Existing housing stock
Existing housing stock.
Existing housing stock, i.e. the renovation, restoration and redevelopment of existing buildings is increasing as most building stock is well maintained. The statutory regulations also apply to existing buildings, and the energy performance certificate is an essential evaluation factor when purchasing or letting a property. KAISER products such as sealing inserts for one-gang boxes, air air-tight sleeves or also the ThermoX® or EnoX installation housings can help to make existing buildings energy efficient and airtight.
Various products developed for this purpose permit retrofit installation on insulated exterior facades. The ISO extension ring can be used to extend existing boxes, and the KAISER equipment carriers guarantee secure mounting without heat bridges. This is how KAISER products help to carry out renovations according to the national regulations on energy efficiency in buildings in a professional and energy-conscious manner.
The KAISER sealing insert can be used for retrofit sealing of existing one-gang boxes during renovation work.
