Coronach public seminar highlights ‘13 Ways to Kill a Community’
Sherri Solomko Freelance Reporter A public seminar on “13 Ways to Kill A community”, was recently held in Coronach on Feb. 5. It was intended to ignite, motivate and inspire their community, according to Kelsey Manske, community development officer. The event was organized by the Town of Coronach and the Old Coronach Street Festival. “The crowd was very engaged, and there were one or two points everyone took away that resonated with them, potentially sparking positive changes within their community.” The town believed that this presentation and topic are excellent for any community. The small Saskatchewan town has had coal as its main industry and now is set to be phased out by 2030 or sooner. “While transitioning from coal presents numerous challenges and unknowns, every community faces its own obstacles. This presentation inspires people to take proactive action and contribute to the future of their community,” said Manske. Coronach is aiming to become more than a big job provider, and revitalize the economic impact in the community once coal operation is shut down. Manske responded,

Griffiths is a wildly popular community strategist and author of two
best selling editions of his book, 13 Ways. He has supported, inspired and guided hundreds of communities to create effective change. Having grown up on a ranch outside a small town, where he learned the value of hard work, critical thinking skills and value of community has led him to his passion for community building. Manske said 13 topics were covered in the presentation, and depending on your role in your community, everyone may have taken something different away. “However, the final point of “don’t take responsibility” teaches us that everyone plays a role in the future of your community. We can’t depend

Still time to access Active Families Benefit
With tax season around the corner, the Government of Saskatchewan is reminding families with children and youth participating in sports, culture, and recreation that they can access the Active Families Benefit when they file their 2023 taxes. The benefit is available to families with an annual income up to $60,000. They can receive up to $150 per year, for each child 18 years or younger, or $200 per year for children who are eligible for the federal Child Disability Tax Credit. Eligible families claim the benefit when they file their taxes.
The Active Families Benefit ensures that the families who need it the most can access it - meaning youth can continue to be involved in sport, recreation and cultural activities.
