Ferris Charles Lawrence, late of Weyburn, SK, passed away on May 15, 2018, at the age of 84 years. Ferris was predeceased by his parents: Fred and Ellen Lawrence; his first wife Joan Moore; sisters Ruth Gabb and Peggy Gessner; brothersin-law: Rudy Gabb and Art Gessner. Ferris is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Fae; son Mark (Carolyn), Calgary, AB and his children Amanda (Michael) and Melissa, son Kevin (Cheryl), White City, SK and his children Ryan (Kim), Sara and Jonah; son Scott (Laurie), Weyburn, SK and his children Tammy (Jeff), Lisa (Jason), Michell (Sandy); son Kurt (Janique), Cold Lake, AB and their children Kayla and Kian; son Gary (Natalie), Calgary, AB and their children Jesse, Emily, Chad and Danielle; great grandchildren: Paris, Bransyn, Ryder, Asher, Cooper, Saydee, Hudson, Haley, Zachary, Mason, Chloe, Charli, Alice and George; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ferris Charles Lawrence was born February 16, 1934 at the homestead of his grandpa’s, “Ferris Russel’s.” When he was 4 years old his parents Fred and Ellen moved a mile south to where he resided for 74 years in south Weyburn area and remained on the farm until 2011. Ferris attended the local Riverview School where he completed his education at Weyburn Collegiate. In September of 1955 he married his high school companion Joan Moore. They built their home together on the yard of his parents. Ferris and Joan had three sons, Mark, Kevin and Scott. During this time Ferris was employed by the Family Farm Improvement Branch, department of agriculture for 3 years, developed and designed the open discharge system for farm homes. After 8 years of marriage, Joan passed away in 1963. Ferris then returned to farming with his father. In 1964 Ferris married Fae Baragar who taught at Queen Elizabeth School and was from the Stoughton area. Ferris and Fae then had two more sons Kurt and Gary. Ferris was an entrepreneur. He developed the first local heating system for heating the entire farm. His adventures included consignment and auction services in the Weyburn area. He sold farm equipment accessories to help and add with the farm income. Ferris was also involved with large pig and livestock operations. He always had a special connection to horses and many other animals. Ferris continued with grain farming and oil seeds. Other adventures started for him at the age of 17 where he won a car at the Weyburn Fair. Ferris travelled to Florida with Evan Goranson pulling Evans’s homemade trailer in the winter. He attempted water skiing with Doug Goranson at Nickle Lake on homemade skis without a life jacket and not knowing how to swim. When Ferris retired, he loved to travel with the convenience of having his bed with him, the 5th wheel and his motor home. Ferris traveled to many areas in Canada, Mexico and his winter home in Yuma, United States. Ferris enjoyed being an active member and was president of many service clubs, these included The Lions, Young Fellows, and Sam’s Travel Club. He strongly participated with South Weyburn district being the first president appointed. He was also a member of the Order of Masons and the Legion. He had a strong Christian faith and was an active member of the Grace United Church. Ferris sang in the men’s choir for many years. He was a kind hearted man who had a very special way with people. Ferris was a loyal husband and father. He always made time for his children, many grandchildren and of course the great grandchildren. His love for people let him leave his home open for anybody at anytime. He always enjoyed celebrating life to its fullest by hosting BBQs and family reunions. Ferris made a great effort to discover his heritage of the Lawrence family and was very excited to share this with the boys and hopes it continues on. A new but positive life change came in 2011 when Ferris and Fae moved to the Bannerman Pointe condominium in Weyburn. Many new friends made this change easy and very enjoyable. We would like to thank everyone who have messaged their condolences to the family. We are also sending a big thank you to the staff at house 5 that showed compassion and cared for Ferris during his time at Tatagwa View Care Home. We need to celebrate his great life and love for it. A Service of Remembrance for Ferris was held Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from Grace United Church, Weyburn, SK with Gary Keefe officiating. Urn Bearer was Lisa Knox. Interment was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, SK. Luncheon followed at the Upper Grace Hall, Weyburn, SK. With great sadness, the family of Dr. Mahdi Buxali Juma announces his passing May 22, 2018 at the age of 86. Only son of Buxali Fazalani and Mariam Alanna Juma, Dr. Juma passed away at his Regina home in the loving company of his dear wife Avelina (Cabahug) Juma. He was the proud Father of Ali Juma (Michele), Stella Juma-Anderson (Ron), Hussain Juma, and Fatima Juma. Uncle to Rowena (Rudy) Evardo and adoring Grandfather to Khalil and David Anderson, Kaden, Aidan, Kiran and Aaron Juma, and Rona Evardo. Dearest lifelong friend to Hamza Ali. Originally from Karachi Pakistan, Dr. Juma immigrated to Canada in 1966 after a two year fellowship at the Worcester Foundation in Massachusetts USA, where he conducted research for Dr. Pincus, the creator of the birth control pill. In Saskatoon, Saskatchewan he met his true love a Filipino nurse Avelina (Belen) Cabahug. The couple was married in 1967 and celebrated their 50th anniversary on December 28, 2017. A man of medicine, Dr. Juma devoted his life and research to the care of the elderly, having done graduate studies in Anatomy at the University of Saskatchewan, and a Physiatry Residency at Royal University Hospital, before moving to Weyburn, Saskatchewan in 1975 where he served at the Souris Valley Extended Care Hospital (SVECH). Dr. Juma’s research on Alzheimer?s would take him on the North America lecture circuit where he was named in the book, “The Who’s Who of Medicine” for his research. Upon retirement Dr. Juma would take on his most challenging and exciting role in becoming a grandfather to Khalil in 1997, a role that expanded to include six more grandchildren. Jean Eleanor Brammall
Jean Eleanor Brammall (nee Molberg) died peacefully on April 30, 2018 at Bayside Personal Care in Killarney, Manitoba at the age of 98. Jean is survived by her children Doris (Harold) Nickel of Wabamun AB, Esther (Bryan) McAuley of Killarney MB, and Frank (Ina) Brammall of Thedford ON, her sister Chris (widow of Arnold) Storey of Middle Lake SK, five grandchildren, Derrick Nickel of Red Deer AB, Shawna (Steve) Pearman of Colonsay SK, Amy (Andre) Shirley of Calgary AB, Kevin (Erika) McAuley of Abbotsford BC and Laurie (Brent) Rushinka of Drumheller AB, seven great-grandchildren, Ruby, Bobby, Mary and George Pearman, Ryan and Ava Rushinka, and Loxley McAuley, and many other extended family. She is preceded in death by her husband Leslie Brammall, her parents Samuel and Anna Molberg, five brothers, Reuben (Ida) Molberg, Philip (Lois and Myrtle) Molberg, Edward (Eva) Molberg, Johnny (Lillian) Molberg, George (Alphild) Molberg, five sisters, Clara (Tom) Nordby, Esther (Hans) Christensen, Edith (Albert) Larson, Alice (Maurice) Jacobson, and Sarah (Allan) McGillivray. Jean, the youngest of 12 children, was born on April 18, 1920 in Midale, Saskatchewan to Samuel and Anna Molberg. Her 11 siblings voted on what her name would be. She attended school in Midale, studied piano and voice at Brandon College, and went to Teachers College in Regina. On July 5, 1937, Jean made history by recording the highest temperature ever officially recorded in Canada. The temperature of 45C or 113F in Midale Saskatchewan, which matched the temperature recorded in the neighboring town of Yellow Grass, still holds the Canadian record for the hottest temperature. In November 2005, a crew from CBC came from Toronto to Killarney to interview Jean and re-enact the event for a national documentary about extreme weather in Canada. Jean taught in various small towns in southern Saskatchewan before she was married. In 1950, while attending the wedding of her niece, Joyce Listoe, Jean was introduced by her brother to Leslie Brammall. They fell in love and were married the following year. After their marriage they farmed near Midale. Over the next few years Les and Jean welcomed three children into their family. Three months after their second child, Esther, was born Jean took on a teaching position to provide a cash flow for the farm. She also did the farm income tax for decades, a task that many farmers wouldn’t dare tackle. After spending several winters in Killarney, Les and Jean eventually retired in Killarney in 1992 where they were a great support and source of joy to their children and grandchildren. For the past 10 years, Jean has been a resident of Bayside Personal Care Home in Killarney. She always appreciated the tremendous care she received and she cultivated many friendships with the residents and staff in the home. On April 30, Jean left us for her better heavenly home where she was reunited with many friends and family who had gone before her. God has you in His keeping. We have you in our hearts.
