nother milestone in the quiet transformation of Canary Wharf has been reached. Having welcomed its first residential tenants earlier in the year at Vertus’ 10 George Street (see Page 18), the estate saw the vanguard of its host of homeowners arrive recently, following the completion of near neighbour 10 Park Drive. The crisply articulated white tower, complete with private roof terrace on its 3th floor contains 345 apartments and saw buyers camping out overnight in Jubilee lace to secure the first properties when they went on sale in July 2015. Those now moving in will be among the first to shape and develop the residential community at the estate’s Wood Wharf scheme, which is set to provide up to 3,600 homes, 350,000sq ft of retail space and nine acres of public space including gardens, parks and a dockside boardwalk with extensive public seating. Buyers receiving the keys to
their 10 Park Drive properties will be taking up residence in a 149-metre tall structure designed by Stanton Williams Architects and, along with sister structure Eight Water Street, intended as a counterpoint to complement the cylindrical form of nearby One Park Drive. Stanton Williams associate director Richard Wardle said: “It was critical for us that the building differentiated itself from the o ce architecture of Canary Wharf. “Once you move over into the residential quarter, you feel like you’re in a different environment. “After you get over the bridge between Canary Wharf and Wood Wharf, the idea is the public realm is incredibly animated and active. “We’ve activated the corners of 10 Park Drive with food and beverage units, to get as much activity down there as possible. “In terms of the architecture of the building itself, we were looking for something with permanence – a sort of timeless quality. “It’s a sculptural project for us, which starts off as a bloc of stone and then we carve into that with the openings, the balconies and the forms that you see along its sides.

here do I start? What an incredible whirlwind since the last Wharf Life flew off the printing press. Firstly congratulations to Jon and Jess for riding out the storm. What did we do at Galliard? We immediately closed all sites to take stock of the situation and formulate a plan for socially distanced construction – a very difficult balancing act. We had already put in place a work from home strategy for head office and sales personnel. Many congratulations to the much maligned IT department who managed to keep everyone working remotely. Leadership was required. Step forward our chairman Stephen Conway and our managing director Don O’Sullivan. A Galliard Cobra Committee was set up comprising all board directors responsible for finance, auditing, construction, sales, marketing and human resources. We met via Microsoft Teams every day at 8.30am and this proved to be invaluable and a fantastic discipline. As a group we were at the start of completions at three developments, St Edwards (Romford), Church Road (Leyton) and Maine Tower Harbour Central in Canary Wharf. otting Hill Genesis has just released a collection of shared ownership properties for sale on the Isle Of Dogs. Launched on July 28, the 15 one-bedroom homes are located at the housing association’s Dockside At Millharbour scheme beside Millwall Inner Dock. The apartments are within easy walking distance of the amenities and transport links of Canary Wharf and benefit from close proximity to South Quay DLR. The development also boasts cycle storage facilities and easy access to the City for those propelling themselves on two wheels via the CS3 route to Tower Gateway. Millharbour has seen significant development in recent years bringing with it bars and restaurants such as Capeesh at nearby Pan Peninsula, the Lincoln Plaza Hotel with its two bars and two restaurants as well as the increasingly vibrant businesses in Pepper Street just over the Glengall Bridge.
