Having a teenage curfew is ineffective and useless. Many people argue that the curfews are necessary because it will keep young people out of trouble. They also say that teenagers are more likely to get in trouble late than they would during daylight. Teens are looked at as the age group that causes the most trouble, and society targets them when it comes to matter for crime, however many people believe that teens are responsible for a large percentage of crimes and that having a curfew in effect will help lower crime rates. I disagree with this because I don't think teenagers should be forced to follow a ridged time schedule because of a curfew. Juvenile crime is a major problem in today's society, nevertheless it's one of the most...show more content...
Teen curfews discriminate against young minorities and violate the rights of minors, also I think that teen curfews confine all young teens based on actions of a small percentage of our population. Curfews are often needed to prevent teens from getting into trouble late at night and many people argue if parents should be held responsible for this. I understand many parents set up rules and other restrictions for their teens to follow, but I don't think parents should take the liability on what their child is doing. These rules are usually given in addition to control, protect, and teach their teen in order for them to know what's right from wrong. In other states, parents are held responsible for their child's actions. If they let their children out past midnight, they could be fined up to $75 for the first offense. The only way minors could stay out after midnight is if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian over twenty one years old. Many public places such as the mall have banned children from hanging out after a certain time and I think the problem with this is where will it send the children.? If they can't go to the mall to "hangout" they are going to end up in a abounded place or basement somewhere drinking because there is nothing else to do. Although, other people view

Curfews can be quite controversial, especially when the topic involves teenage curfews. There are many purposes for teenage curfews. Many citizens are concerned for the safety of their youth, and curfews can help ensure your safety from the outside world. Along with this, curfews also help with the prevention of violence. Typically, they are adopted by a community based on necessity. The controversy of curfews really starts when results are mentioned. Often times, curfews help decrease crime rates and discourage first time offenders of the law. Many people also believe a teenager's rights get stripped away when dealing with this issue. Overall, curfews curb a teenager's temptation to do wrong, while also promoting more positive relationships. For those reasons, a teenage curfew is a proactive practice. Curfews are often believed to be helpful in protecting the safety of youths and the prevention of violence. Most citizens of restricted communities think streets are safer due to curfews (Gius 311), and they are partial to crime preventing laws because they believe it could be helpful (Ward). After a curfew, many mindsets in the community are affected in a positive way. Curfews can be placed at any time to prevent chaos, which has especially been seen in the United States (Ward). Over time, curfews...show more content...
Curfews may not be necessary all of the time, however when chaos comes into play they can help a city to thrive again. Curfews help protect teenagers, while also working to prevent violence. Often times, crime rates are decreased and temptation is curbed. Finally, curfews promote more positive relationships. With support from the community, such as community activities that help instigate mature behavior (Ward), teenagers are likely to feel welcomed and loved. Curfews are a tedious process; however, one by one, they are helping our world become a safer and more peaceful
The issue of teen curfews is usually a debatable one, considering the amount of controversy surrounding the city of Los Angeles, which has being discussed multiple times. Parents believe that they should force curfews to protect their teens. While teens often presume that their parents are restricting them from freedom. Curfews given by the government are even more arguable because there is no way to find a loop through the law. A few communities are contemplating whether high school students should have a curfew as a law. The law itself would be that it is illegal for any minor under the age of 18 to be upon public streets after the clock strikes 10. It is clear that curfews should be imposed by the government for numerous reasons. Without...show more content...
In the article,"The Importance of Guidance" by Barbie Carpenter, the author states that, "Guidance is particularly important now, as your teen faces serious choices that can impact her health, well–being and future". A portion of that supervision involves a restriction on the time spent away from the family home. A curfew is part of that restriction. It is given that the later a teen is away from their home the more probable they are to come to harm. They could be a victim to date rape, gang attack, random shooting, etc. They can also be a victim to indirect harm. Which is peer pressure to take drugs or even partake in having unprotected intimacy . This way the teen would not leave their house to participate or be a victim of something illegal. Parents underestimate this generation when they should not so this is why the government should enforce this law. The government understands that some parents do not value their teenagers very much by setting them free into the wild and so this is when the government needs to step in and show teenagers some
Effectiveness of Teen Curfews Meridee Jones Cecil, a mother of two teenage boys, pronounced that she would undertake a new parenting tactic, and lay the curfew time in the teenager's hands. Her son, Tom was a freshman in high school and often lingered around older friends who could drive. Because of this, Tom's parents decided to teach him responsibility by having him appoint his own curfew. Meridee said, "It seemed to work like a charm. Tom even set some of his curfews for before midnight. He came home on time. Then one night he rolled in 20 minutes late" (Cecil 13). After Tom's slip up, his parents resolved the issue by setting the curfew back to 10 p.m. and he was not allowed to negotiate. From then on out, Tom had the reins again and...show more content...
Another teen, Latoyia Welth from Ohio also experienced the curfew policies. One night at 11:30 p.m. she was walking home with a small group of friends, and the police pulled up and confronted them about why they were out ("Teens See" 18). Latoyia said, "They checked our bags and then went down the line and ran everybody's name for any warrants. They took two people and then let the rest of us go" ("Teens See" 18). In Latoyia and her friend's case, they were just heading home, not heading out, and they were causing no harm to anyone around them. Although three of the teens were not arrested, they still had to comprehend that two of the others were arrested because they were out past curfew. In both of these incidents, the teens were not being a disturbance or creating trouble. While the cops were arresting innocent teens for just being outside, there were most definitely teens actually out committing crimes that were not arrested. The main reason teen curfews have been put into effect is to lower teen crime rates; however, the impact has not been as effective as law officials had hoped. The FBI reported that although overall crime rates were declining, juvenile crime rates were on the rise (Feldmann 1). Arthur Spitzer, a legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) states his warning about the declining arrest rates. Spitzer

Many young teenagers enjoy living life on the edge; they often think or see themselves as fully grown adults, capable of making their own decisions, and having the freedom that comes with it. But more often than not, teenagers are not fully able to grasp the sense of maturity and consequence in every day life, much less out in the real world. In order to keep them safe and away from harm, a curfew is a perfect wall for teens to stay behind. Everyone remembers that, at least once as a child, they have dreamt of having the freedom, will, and maturity that their parent or guardian possesses. Even today, children often pretend to be a business man or president; someone that they hope to be when they get older. True, teenagers are closer to...show more content...
Teenagers are often seen as reckless and immature, rather than having the calm and collected composure that an adult is seen with. This immaturity can sometimes be so high, they simply refuse to take the fall for the decisions they made; some fail to realize that, in real life, everyone must take the good with the bad, not solely claim the benefits. This fragile flaw can very much prove fatal, so a curfew can very much save young citizens from themselves. Many television shows and movies are known to give a young character an episode or scene about him or her, and it often runs down the same road; the child or teen does something reckless or idiotic, they try extremely hard to fix it (but it often makes things worse), and when they fail, they must face the consequences. A well known example is from the hit Cartoon Network show The Amazing world or Gumball, where the main character Gumball causes trouble with little or no intention. In one specific episode, Gumball accidentally damages a rented DVD, and when he tries to fix it, he ends up breaking it. This may seem like a silly show, but there is one big comparison between his actions and real life: In every episode, such as the DVD episode, he is forced to face the Get more content
A city council is debating the adoption of a 10 P.M. weekday curfew and a midnight weekend curfew for teenagers. If the curfew is adopted teenagers on the streets after those hours would be breaking the law. The new adjustment to having curfews would keep teenagers out of trouble, because when people are telling the teenagers they need to be home at a certain time, then they will obey what people are telling them. Teenagers are not old enough to be out later than 10 P.M., especially on a school night. Teenagers need to have some sort of responsibility and one could be having a curfew at 10 P.M. and on the weekends at midnight. Majority of teenagers have sports they attend to after school. When teenagers have sports they don't want to be out past a certain time because their bodies are so...show more content...
Teenagers have a lot on their plates including: school, looking for jobs, or having a job, relationships, and sports. Teenagers would need to arrive home by 10 P.M. This shouldn't interfere with young peoples lives because they shouldn't be out that late anyways. Now if a teenager has a job they would need to get off of work by at least 9:30 P.M. That should give him or her plenty of time to go home, eat supper, do homework, take a shower, and then go to sleep. If teenagers were to disobey this law then they would be breaking the law. Teenagers now a days aren't the same as back in the older day teenagers. It use to be that if someone was out after dinner time he or she mom or dad would be really upset or even mad at them and tell them quickly to get to their room and go do he or she homework. Most students that are focused on their studies they won't be out past about eight or nine o'clock. These teenagers are probably in their rooms studying and preparing for the next day of school. Teenagers need to be aware of how dangerous it is to be out past 10 P.M. It isn't like it use to be going outside without parents and no one messed with anyone as Get more content
They are out there causing trouble, drinking, smoking, and having sex. The teenagers: feared by parents all around the world. That is not the reality; the majority of teenagers will not be out looking for trouble. On a typical Friday night teenagers will be hanging out with their friends, catching up with everything that has gone on during the week. Why do parents fear for their teenager's lives? So often we hear about violent crimes and things that go bump in the night, but do we think that the problems can be solved by a magical curfew? Can parents really keep their teenagers out of trouble or does an imposed curfew only lead to resentment and chaos? Parents think back to when you were a teenager, did you have a curfew? If so, did you...show more content...
There are four main concerns when implementing a curfew:
2) What is the relationship of juvenile crime, particularly serious juvenile crime, to the use and enforcement of teen curfew laws?
1) How effective are curfews as crime prevention measures?
3) Are teen curfew laws fairly implemented and enforced, or do they target low income, minority neighborhoods?
4) Does the enforcement of curfews violate the rights of juveniles? (Sutphen 57)
(Need some kind of wrap up conclusion sentences here) Curfew is believed to help protect vulnerable children. In the article, "Should Kids Have a Curfew?" it states "in keeping their child safe, it is also the parents' job to teach their child to recognize the difference between good and bad and right and wrong, and to understand how to be responsible" (Polaski). When parents teach their children to be responsible and know the difference between bad and good they can trust their children to stay out of trouble. Installing a curfew helps parents to teach their children that the outside world is not always as safe as the one inside the home. Parents have the responsibility to enforce a curfew to protect their children. If the parent does not follow through and enforce the rule of curfew then it is a waste of time. Many parents believe that teenagers do not need a later curfew. We have all heard the line "what can be done in the early morning hours can
Curfew is something that most teens deal with at some point in their life. The curfew could be set by their parents, their parole officer, or even their coach if they are traveling with a sports team. These guardians set a curfew to try to keep their teens out of trouble but it will not stop teens from doing something that they shouldn't. They will just do what they want to do earlier in the day. If a 10 pm curfew was enforced, that curfew would interfere with the lives of teens that have jobs that require them to work later than the curfew allows. They would have to work shorter shifts which causes them to make less money. Some teenagers might not work so close to home and that would cause problems in their schedule too. Their shift could end at 9 pm but if they get caught in traffic at 9:30 pm, there is a chance that they will get pulled over after ten and then they have no way to prove that they are coming from...show more content...
This would cause a lot of trouble and confusion, both for the city and teenagers. One problem with the city enforcing a 10 pm curfew is that the city will spend more money to have police officers patrolling the streets when it is not necessary. Traditionally, parents are the ones who enforce a curfew and most of the time, the enforced time is 11–12 pm. If the curfew is that early, the number of teens breaking the law will increase; even if it is unintentional. Some kids will drive around after 10 just to see if they can do it without getting caught. Another problem that will arise regarding the law is speeding. Teens that do not want to get caught after 10 will speed to ensure that they make it home on time. That makes the road more dangerous for the teens and other people on the road. However, setting a 10 pm curfew may decrease the number of teens killed in drunk
Many teenagers have a set time they have to be home by their parents. Usually teenagers must be home from dates and nights out with friends by anywhere from 10 o'clock at night to 2 o'clock in the morning. Each parent has extremely different curfews set for their children, based on the individual level of responsibility and trust levels. Some local government decides to set their own curfews, to keep teens off the streets at night and out of trouble. Many people argue whether this actually solves anything, or is even legal to do, since it is taking away a piece of teenager's freedom. Although there are many good and bad points to enforcing curfews, they should be less enforced because they do not necessarily keep teens out of trouble,...show more content...
There are few good reasons why a curfew could still benefit the town. Although, Some people say that a curfew is not necessarily for keeping teens out of trouble. It is for keeping the town quiet at night and gives everyone some peaceful rest at night. In the article, "Manitoba town to ban kids at night", the mayor of Killarney, Manitoba sates," 'It's not that we have a big crime problem, we just have some youngsters out to all hours of the night disturbing the peace.' " An easier method for this is just to have a few police working at night to ensure peace. A demanding curfew that punishes many for doing nothing is simply unnecessary. "'Ultimately, curfew laws don't make us more safe, but they make us less free,' says Joe Cook, executive director of the Dallas ACLU" (Rosado and Manly). Curfews are not in effect everywhere and not everyone follows them, whether it is intentionally or unintentionally. Sometimes, curfews that are in effect are not followed intentionally, as previously discussed, or unintentionally. Many times some people don't even know what the curfews are in set cities; if the city has a curfew set at all. Dallas, Texas has recently set a curfew for teens ages 17 and under. The teens must be inside by 11 o'clock on weekdays and midnight on weekends (Rosado, and Manly). Agreeing to this, Sutphen and Ford argued that different curfews throughout the United States are unreasonable. If teenagers were used to a curfew of midnight, adjusting to a curfew

In the past few years, the juvenile crime and the safety of teenagers had lead a lot of countries to make the teenager curfew laws. According to an article wrote by Crystal Lombardo that "The curfew law means that who is under the age of 18 will be able to get as much adult supervision as possible, lessening the chances to them getting involved in juvenile crime and violence" as many cities in US enforced the curfew laws for minors to keep them safe from any danger and prevent them from getting in any trouble, as a lot of people think that a curfew law keeps teenagers out of trouble while others think that it prevent them from enjoying their life.
Supporters believe that curfew laws idea is to prevent teenagers from making any kind of trouble...show more content... as one of the cons of curfew laws that it brings out the false sense of security that parents thinks that it will keep them away from trouble but it may not as they can be involved in violence that comes not only by night but anytime, Teens raised under curfew are expected to obey every one of their parent's decision without argument so they have less of a personality comparing to Teens who are not under curfew and they also might get culture shock making them less adaptable. There are opinions that curfews are unconstitutional because it gives the government the right to interfere with a person's life and privacy and personal opinions which would affect them badly.
So the contradiction between the pros and cons of the curfew laws still the same, some people believe that the curfew laws is better to be applied in our life because it has a lot of advantage in which it ensures teenagers safety and make them responsible about things in their life, while other thinks that it hinder maturity of their children and impose autocratic parents by losing sight over their children by not be in their life. The side I think is more correct that curfew law isn't that important because it's a job that supposed to be done by the parents not the Get more content
