Welcome to the What on Earth Books and Britannica Books Children’s Catalogue It’s hard to get one’s head around how much the world has changed in just a few months. The global pandemic has focussed everyone’s minds on just how important it is that we strive to create a better world for our future generations. We count ourselves as extremely lucky that our two children’s non-fiction imprints, What on Earth Books and Britannica Books, are all about inspiring young people to engage in the world around them with hope, wonder and awe. With that in mind, one of the most exciting titles in our new What on Earth Books list is The Good Germ Hotel – showing how we depend on the microbial world for our very survival. Germs can be good, not just bad! Offering a positive perspective in a bright, fun and accessible way is more critical and relevant now than ever. A second new title, Marvellous Machines, takes the idea of exploration in a printed book to a new level. Using a ‘magic lens’ curious children can peer inside machines from everyday toasters and bicycles to high-tech submarines and even maglev trains to discover their inner workings. Amazing Treasures is the second title in the Our Amazing World series and takes readers on a global journey tracing everything from the wonders of the ancient world to the most precious objects found in museums from London to Beijing. Meanwhile, younger readers can join intrepid explorers Jasmine and Jamie to find out all about dinosaurs and the unflappable Lin as she treks into the rainforest in two more Zoom board books: Dinosaur Adventure and Rainforest Adventure.
Introduction
Following the hugely exciting launch of our Britannica Books list last year, we are delighted to present FACToptia! Here, unrelated facts are linked together as if using a ball of string. Enjoy our world of weird and wonderful facts, connected in brilliant and surprising ways. Meanwhile, fact-hungry folks will relish Listified! – a mind-boggling compendium of amazing knowledge all distilled into beautifully presented lists covering everything from space to the human body. Lastly, there is our growing backlist, which we hope will continue to inspire everyone who believes, as we do, that the real world really is far more amazing than anything you can make up. Best wishes, Christopher Lloyd CEO, Founder, What on Earth Publishing
