Fall 2025
With complete backlist including Britannica Books
It’s been 15 glorious years since we founded What on Earth! as an independent children’s nonfiction publishing house—and what a ride it has been!
Just looking through pages of this catalog reveals our story, from the first Timeline Wallbooks covering Big History, Nature, and Science to the Britannica All New Kids’ Encyclopedia—a book which, since its debut in 2020, has sold more than half a million copies, and has been translated into 26 languages worldwide. So, how fitting that we should now launch a beautifully updated edition of this global bestseller, five years after its launch. Adorned in a magnificent new red cover, the encyclopedia is fully updated with all the rigor and research you would expect of Britannica and What on Earth!
At the same time, we continue to provide storytelling that covers the full nonfiction spectrum, from an inspiring biography of Harriet Tubman, beautifully told and illustrated by Caroline Brewer, to the playful novelty book Marvelous Animal Homes, in which amazing animal habitats are revealed when you look through the magic lens.
Our Fall season is completed with a flourish through an ingenious picture book entitled This Book is Too Quiet! It is dedicated to helping young children appreciate the extraordinary cacophony of sounds that surround us—making them the narrators as they add their own sound effects to every scene. Let the performance… begin!

The extraordinary story of Harriet Tubman’s life, leadership, spirituality, and relationship with nature, told through powerful poetry and collage.
Tubman was born enslaved, was torn from her parents and assigned dangerous work from the age of six, and suffered a brain injury in her teens. Despite it all, she developed a rich understanding of nature and a deep spirituality, using them to free herself, to lead hundreds of others to freedom, and— during the Civil War—to be the first woman in the U.S. to lead soldiers on a military mission. In Harriet Tubman, Force of Nature, Caroline Brewer’s beautiful words and pictures take children on Harriet’s incredible journey that changed the world.
