GREETINGS FROM THE MAYOR: On behalf of City Council and the residents of Richmond, I would like to extend sincere greetings to all the readers and users of the 2014 Welcome to BC Handbook. Welcome to BC is a handbook that aims to assist new immigrants facilitate a smooth transition and settlement in our community. I understand that the publication will provide important information which includes health care, legal system, banking and education. I am sure that Welcome to BC will be an invaluable resource, assisting newcomers to our community. The City of Richmond is proud of its beautiful parks, recreational facilities, unique historic sites and excellent selection of restaurants. Our City’s multicultural ambience is friendly and inviting. We are home to one of the largest Asian retail districts in North America, which boasts the finest in international and authentic Asian cuisine. Meanwhile, the historic fishing village of Steveston is not to be missed. Steveston is a waterfront community where one can stroll the boardwalk, purchase fresh seafood directly off the ships, enjoy the area’s fine cuisine, or shop the unique galleries and boutiques. I hope you will take the time to visit our City and explore the vast amenities our City has to offer.
