Paolo Nutini

O2 Academy, Birmingham, Fri 28 October

Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo’s deep, throaty vocals are the perfect instrument with which to perform a repertoire of music that includes pop, folk, alternative rock and soul. His recently released fourth album, Last Night In The Bittersweet, is a 70-minute epic that spans the distance from classic rock to post-punk to hypnotic krautrock. The record has been described as his deepest, most varied and most accomplished release to date.

Billy Idol

Resorts World Arena, Birmingham, Sun 23 October

An early architect of punk rock, Billy Idol remains a true rock legend. His latest release, The Cage, has been described by Billy himself as “a little more coming at you, a little more rock’n’roll and a little more f*** you!” than his previous EP, 2021’s The Roadside. Billy’s current touring show - which sees him performing in the UK for the first time since 2018 - features both new music and a stack of timeless classics (including White Wedding and Rebel Yell, to name but a few).

The People Versus

The Sunflower Lounge, Birmingham, Thurs 20 October

Providing haunting folk fairytales powered by sheer pop euphoria, Alice Edwardsfronted band The People Versus bring a variety of genres and traditions to The Sunflower Lounge this month, with many of their songs being inspired by Greek mythology and tales from Shakespeare. Despite having formed only three years ago, the band have filled tents and enjoyed successful appearances at Lakefest, Greenbelt, Cambridge Folk Festival and, most recently, Birmingham’s very own Moseley Folk & Arts Festival.
