Birmingham Royal Ballet: Lazuli Sky The REP, Birmingham, Thurs 22 - Sat 24 October
The first one-act ballet commissioned and presented by Carlos Acosta as director of Birmingham Royal Ballet, Will Tuckett's Lazuli Sky is inspired by ideas of social distancing. It here forms part of a brand-new mixed bill, being presented alongside Valery Panov's powerful solo piece, Liebestod, and Vicente Nebrada’s Our Waltzes. The show has a running time of one hour.
An Evening With Kevin and Joanne Clifton Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury, Wed 4 & Thurs 5 November
An Evening With The Fizz Lichfield Garrick, Fri 6 November
Back in the days when the UK sometimes won Eurovision, Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan and Jay Aston came together with Bobby Gee to take the coveted song contest by storm. Winning the competition with Making Your Mind Up in 1981 - a performance made all the more memorable by the boys’ mid-song ripping off of the girls’ skirts - the foursome went on to enjoy chart success with hits like Land Of Make Believe, My Camera Never Lies and Piece Of The Action. Now Cheryl, Mike and Jay fancy another ‘piece of the action’, so have reformed as The Fizz. “The evening,” says the group, “is the ‘warts and all’ behind-the-curtain story of Bucks Fizz - from being put together and winning the Eurovision Song Contest to becoming one of the most successful bands of the 1980s, with five number-one hits and 10 top-10 songs.”

“Although we’ve all missed performing and producing live shows, and it’s great to be able to get back on stage, we know people’s health and safety is paramount,” says Kevin Clifton, in talking about the challenges of presenting this ‘intimate’ show for a small and socially distanced audience. “Myself, Joanne and our producers feel a responsibility to the theatre industry to help rebuild audience confidence, so that one day theatres will be full again.”
Coppelia: A Mystery New Vic Theatre, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Sat 12 December - Sat 9 January
The story of Coppelia sees the title character, Dr Coppelius’s mannequin, left on the workshop balcony, from where she causes quite a stir - not only in the heart of the red-blooded Franz, but also in the mind of his jealous fiancee, Swanilda, who foolishly mistakes Coppelia for a flesh-andblood rival... This socially distanced presentation invites its audiences on a journey around the theatre’s spaces. The hour-long show replaces the venue’s intended festive-season production of Beauty And The Beast, which has been postponed until Christmas 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The production provides a glimpse into the lives of Kevin and Joanne, from their formative years growing up in a dancing family, to their modern-day successes on Strictly and beyond. As well as singing songs from their CD, the siblings will be sharing stories and performing some favourite ballroom and Latin dances with their professional partners.
