The menu here pays homage to the dishes commonly found at these establishments across South-East Asia. We chose to visit the restaurant on a rainy Sunday afternoon and reached just in time for an early lunch.

Sengoku era, credited with saving the life of a Japanese ruler. We also tried the One Night In Bangkok which was a mix of white rum with refreshing Asian ingredients like coconut, lime juice, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves. From the mocktail section, we gave Ging Sing a shot. This drink came with the cooling flavours of cucumber, ginger and lemongrass.

Located in Phoenix Marketcity, the interiors of the restaurant were done up in brown with oriental paintings. Brown wooden chairs and tables dotted the space in perfect harmony. The al-fresco area had a home-converted-into-a-bar look with the similar decor, only much lighter, with an addition of floral designs and potted plants on the walls.

What we ate?

What we drank? Our first drink – Hattori Hanzo was a concoction of tequila, butterfly pea flower tea and came with a flask of lime juice on the side. The originally purple drink turned light pink on the addition of lime juice which was delightful to watch. We especially loved the citrusy flavours combined with tea. The drink itself is named after Hattori Hanzo – a samurai from 18

We started with the Asparagus Tempura – this vegetarian maki roll was one of the first dishes we tasted on the menu and we were blown over. The crispy-fried tempura asparagus gave a nice textural contrast to the mushy rice and creamy kewpie mayo. Next up was the Philadelphia Roll which came with salmon, cream cheese, minced asparagus and tobiko. We savoured the mild seafood taste from the salmon in particular. We then proceeded to try the Spicy Crunchy Tuna – crunchy cucumbers teamed with nutty roasted sesame and chilli mayo. After our sushi course, we decided to explore the dumpling menu and started with Crystal Vegetables – a translucent dumpling (almost too pretty to eat) with a filling of carrots,

We then proceeded to taste the famous Shanghai Soup Dumpling - Chicken Xiao Long Bao. These dumplings were little pockets of flavour, filled with soup, earthy Shiitake mushroom and juicy minced chicken. Next on our plate was the Korean Pulled Pork & Kimchi Mandoo which came pan-fried and filled with Enoki mushroom and spicy gochujang paste. We loved the porky goodness and the sear from the dumpling wrapper. We also got to try the Mantou Buns – plain steamed bao and paired it with Stir-fried Pork and Bamboo Shoot with herbaceous Thai basil. The chewy, saucy pork was complemented by the sweetness of the bun. If there was a dish we would head back for, this would be it. The hot, soulful flavours were just what we needed on a rainy afternoon We had a go at some of their fast selling appetizers – Chicken Satay and Mushroom Satay. The mildly spiced chicken was easy to eat – a good option for children and people who shy away from spicy food. The latter was cooked to a juicy goodness and was a delight to the palate. We finished main course with Jajangmyeon Noodles – Korean hand-pulled, stir-fried, noodles with chunjang sauce. The sweet and spicy flavours were ideal with the cooling mocktails.

Sweet Endings For desserts, we chose to have the Tender Coconut Cheesecake which came with bits of tender coconut, topped with candied pink ginger, kiwi and pomegranate. The creamy mix was pure bliss and addition of the coconut bits was an interesting twist on the classic recipe. The Thai Tub Tim Grob was almost a beverage and came with cold coconut milk, sweet candied water chestnuts set off by orange bitters – an ideal summer day treat.

Snacking Done Right Brand Beginnings “I’d choose a lazy person to do a hard job. Because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it” quoted Bill Gates and we couldn’t agree more. Huda Masood made her first breakfast bar because she was too lazy to wake up early and cook herself a healthy breakfast. She soon started dedicating one day of the month to prepare the bars and carried them to work and on her travels. Co-founded by Huda Masood and Aditya Kumar, The Huda Bar has a loyal customer base in the biker friends of the founders (avid bikers themselves). They swear by the brand’s products and carry a large amount of the same on their rides. Soon, the brand gained attention through word of mouth and the bars were in demand. The Clientele The brand caters to the Gen X and Y who are consciously turning to healthier alternatives and fitness but are caught up in a fast paced environment. Whether it is travellers, athletes, commuters or office goers, The Huda Bar works for everyone. It is great replacement to breakfast, snacks and also doubles as travel food. 20

The Journey When queried about how the journey has been so far, Huda replies “Difficult! We do our best and try and set an example for other food manufacturers to follow. Manufacturing food that is travel ready has been a gargantuan task. Developing relationships with vendors was long and arduous but rewarding. We ensured that our employees got paid fairly and on time, with a two-day weekend because quality of life is important, even at the expense of our own salaries and financial security. Trying to get certified organic ingredients but keeping our products affordable for everyday use is a juggling act, complicated by the extra balls of demonetisation and GST that the government threw at us.”

Peanut Butter Bar – The Peanut butter bar had peanut butter made from scratch incorporated into the bars, providing an intense Zumba workout and it proved to be a delicious and filling snack.

The Hot Sells The classic bars and the chocolate covered granola bars sell the most. The organic peanut butter and raw honey are doing really well too. The Experience We received miniature samples of some of the products from Huda Bars. All the bars come with ingredients like oats, almonds, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, dates, malted ragi, honey, jaggery and butter. The vegan variations are free of dairy and honey.

Wildflower Honey - This organic, sunlit gold honey is procured from a single beekeeper in the lush jungles of Malnad, North Karnataka. Intensely sweet, with heady floral notes, this honey is harvested at the beginning of the year, with only 40 kg extracted per season. It served as a delicious addition to my morning cereal. Cashew Butter – Prepared from certified organic cashews, Himalayan pink salt and ground in small batches, I was hooked to the creamy, salty flavor from the very first spoon. Almond Butter – Ground with skin for an extra boost of Vitamin E, this indulgent butter tasted scrumptious on my toasted bread.

Classic Bar – One bite of this bar and I could taste the natural goodness of the ingredients used. The bits of date and the nuttiness from the seeds put a stop to my dessert craving. Extra Honey – Honey is one of my favourite sugar substitutes and provides instant energy to the body. I dug curbed my hunger, giving me a boost of energy.

First Impressions Known to be one of the largest spas in the country, the Clarks Exotica’s Seventh Heaven has a range of treatments from Ayurveda to Hydrotherapies. With state-of-the-art facilities and qualified professionals, spa treatments at Clarks Exotica ensure that the guests are refreshed and relaxed. Located in Devanahalli, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the resort itself is an island of quietude. On entering the spa, I was greeted by the spa manager and was asked to take seat while she explained which treatment would be the best for me. We decided on the Sports Spa – a therapy to reduce the stiffness of the body and distress. She also elaborated that the treatment would bring pain relief, general relaxation and muscle relaxation.

The Experience I was introduced to my therapist, a sweet North-Eastern lady by the name Elli who led me to the locker room to change. The spa was dimly lit and exuded a sense of serenity; the faint floral fragrance in the background added to the ambience. I was handed a clean robe, a pair of slippers and proceeded to change, post which I was led to the therapy room.

The therapy started with a dry massage for five minutes to loosen my muscles and increase the blood flow. Before Elli proceeded with the oil massage, she mentioned that she would be using olive and lemongrass oil. The combination helps de-stress while deeply moisturizing the skin without clogging the pores. She started with a light feet massage, working her way up towards my legs, waist, shoulders and arms, checking every few minutes if I was okay with the pressure applied. She smoothened away the restrained knots and tight spots, paying attention to my knee area which was stiff. She then went on to massage my feet using acupressure techniques, all the while explaining which pressure point helps reduce insomnia and which targets headaches. After a blissful 50 minutes, she wiped away the oil and led me to the steam room. She mentioned that she had added eucalyptus oil to clear my sinuses which also left me light headed. The spa session ended with a good 10 minutes in the steam room and hot chamomile tea.

The restaurant also offers a wide range of continental dishes for the younger generation. There is a special menu for kids, which is designed to be healthy and tasty at the same time.

First Impressions As we walked in, we first noticed the elegant décor done up in shades of cream and wooden brown. The cream coloured comfortable chairs and brown wooden tables dot the place along with the inviting buffet spread. We were quite hungry and jumped right in.

What we ate? We started with Sabu Dana Seekh which came with a and the crunch from the semolina were especially enjoyable. Next up was the Arbi Ki Seekh – a signature dish from the chef made with taro root, the texture of the dish was almost bread-like. It went great with the Amla Green Chutney. We also tried the Yam Galouti Kabab which came

Cashew Chicken - an Asian style preparation of chicken tossed with broccoli, assorted bell peppers with cashews thrown in for a good measure and garnished with spring onion. We then proceeded to try the Dragon Fried Fish – an oriental style dish which came with crispy fried basa in a tangy, flavoursome batter. From the meat section, the chef recommended the Murgh lazeez – chicken lollypops cooked till succulent and marinated in a spicy Indian masala. We were quite stuffed by the time we were done with the appetizers and decided to skip the mains. We proceeded to the dessert section which came with a selection of pastries, flans and Indian desserts. We picked the Black Forest Pastry which was moist and delicious.
