Morale,Welfare & Recreation MWR facilities are here for recreational use by active duty, midshipmen, retired military, active reservists, current and retired Department of Defense civilian employees (Civil Service and non-appropriated), active duty Coast Guard, family members in all of these categories, and USNA DoD contractors. The MWR Fitness Center features a full-court gymnasium; free weight, cardio and circuit strength training rooms; day lockers and showers; a racquetball court and a functional fitness room. Active duty, midshipmen, reservists, retired military, current and retired DoD civilian employees and all dependent family members can use the facility at no charge. USNA DoD contract employees may purchase an annual or monthly membership fee or pay a daily guest fee. Eligible patrons may bring a guest for a daily fee. MWR Sports offers intramural leagues for all active duty, retirees, DoD civilians, family members 18 years and older and USNA contractors in softball, basketball, volleyball and flag football. Fitness programs such as 5K runs, fitness orientations and assessments, personal training and group fitness/exercise classes are available to active and retired military, DoD civilians, family members, and Annapolis Area Complex contractors. Fitness assessments and personal training are available by appointment with the MWR Fitness staff or contracted personal trainers.
Auto Skills Shop and Car Wash
299 Halligan Road, Naval Support Activity Annapolis 410-293-3859 The Auto Skills Shop is a fully equipped, self-service repair facility located across from the MWR Carr Creek Marina. The shop offers eight bays (four with hydraulic lifts), that can be rented by the hour on a first come, first served basis, battery charger, tire mounter, electric drill, engine stands, tire balancer, puller set, storage and professional guidance. Check your vehicle with the “All Data” computer car manual program which contains information on recalls, service bulletins, and make/model updates. There is also a used oil and antifreeze drop-off respository during open hours. A Car Wash is open 24/7 and is located adjacent to the NEX Service Station. Credit cards are accepted.
Child and Youth Programs
Child Development Center, 410-293-9390 Child Development Center Annex, 410-293-9380 Eucalyptus and Gage Roads Naval Support Activity Annapolis, Child Development Home Program, 410-293-9395 The Child Development Centers, accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children, are open to active duty, active reservists, active duty Coast Guard, DoD civilian employees, and USNA DoD contractors. They offer full-time child care and developmentally appropriate programs for children six weeks to five years of age with the curriculum based on the philosophy that "children learn through play." The centers provides hot and cold Maryland State Department of Education approved breakfasts and lunches, as well as afternoon snacks. When needed, Child and Youth Programs offer the Child Development Home Program for children from 6 weeks to 12 years old and trains, certifies and monitors DoD-affiliated providers on and off base. In addition, Child and Youth Programs offer the services of the CYP School Liaison Officer (located at the Fleet and Family Support Center, 410-293-2641). Hourly care and after-hours care are also available, and must be reserved in advance.
Billy the Kid Youth Center 354 Alder Road, Naval Support Activity Annapolis 410-293-9396 and 410-293-4998 The “Billy the Kid” Youth Center, affiliated with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, 4-H and accredited by the National Council on Accreditation, is located in a newly constructed facility and provides a wide range of recreational, social and educational activities for children from five years old (and in kindergarten) to 18. Programs include School-Age Care (before and after school for children kindergarten through age 12), leisure skills developmental classes, special themed events, monthly birthday parties during the school year, and field trips to area attractions. There is also a summer camp for children entering first grade through 12 years old. There is also a teen summer camp. The center also offers a place for children, ages 11 to 18, to use computers with Internet capability, Cable TV and video games. Homework help is also available. T-ball, baseball and soccer leagues, basketball clinics and special interest activities are offered to promote, skills, fun and sportsmanship.
Carr Creek Marina
Located at the end of Naval Support Activity Annapolis at the mouth of the Severn River 410-293-3731 and 410-293-2058 The Carr Creek Marina offers a wide variety of recreational boating options at affordable prices. Dry storage facilities can accommodate boats, RVs and pop-up campers (no automobiles). Priority is given to those residing in base housing at USNA/ NSA Annapolis. Hauling, washing, launching and dry-stand storage facilities are available for privately owned boats by appointment. The sailing fleet rentals include 22-24' sailboats, including four Hunter 22-foot sloops and a 25-foot Catalina sailboat. Rental powerboats include 15- and 17-foot Whalers. Canoes and 1- and 2-person kayaks are also for rent. Boat rentals are available from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. Basic keelboat sailing lessons for beginners are given every weekend by reservation, May through the beginning of September. Carr Creek Marina also rents 32 slips with water and electric hookups on an annual contract basis at the Commander John L. Dunning, Jr., USNR, (Ret.) Memorial Pier on Mill Creek Pier off Greenbury Point. Applications are filed on a status group priority basis.
